Scorchers vs Heat Preview Posted on December 24, 2015January 28, 2016 | Posted by Wayne Clark If losing the first fixture of the BBL Season is any indication, the Scorchers are on track to defend their title. They’ve lost the first game of the last 4 years and still made the Grand Final – winning 2! This fixture against the Heat though is a must win in my eyes. The Heat in most people’s minds will not contest finals this year and the Scorchers would be disappointed if they don’t win this home fixture. All that said, it is going to be a tough task. No Voges, S Marsh, M Marsh and Coulter-Nile. A real test of the Scorchers depth. Klinger’s experience will be a key; Carberry needs to be more decisive in his approach and how likely replacements Agar/Turner/Harris perform will have a huge bearing on the game. Don’t be surprised to see Willey promoted this game. Worth a little bit as top run scorer. Willey will also have an influence with the ball (impressed in game one) and don’t lose faith in Joel Paris. A couple of bad overs the other night, but he is a wicket-taker. I also expect Tye to bounce back and bowl well at the death. The Heat’s strength is their batting with Pierson and Lynn; the two most capable of making big runs. Reardon and Cutting also provide some big hitting down the list. The challenge for the Heat is in their bowling. Can they dismiss the Scorchers cheaply enough or protect a total at the WACA ground? Cutting and Badree will lead from the front but I don’t think they have the depth in the attack. Scorchers to win in a tight one.
