Wayne’s Preview – Scorchers vs Strikers Posted on December 22, 2016June 7, 2018 | Posted by Wayne Clark Friday December 23, 2016 – WACA Let’s hope from a Scorchers point of view that BBL06 starts a bit different than the previous five seasons – 1st round losses in all, with four of them at The Furnace. When you look at the Scorchers squad you do so in awe. Packed full of talent and match winners BUT injuries to their bowling stocks have decimated the side. The pressure will be on English Import, David Willey to lead from the front and also on Andrew Tye to continue his incredible T20 form. Ashton Agar will step into the main spinning role and his form will have a massive influence on the Scorchers results. How will Mitch Johnson go after being away from the game a while and can a young tyro like Jye Richardson be the Key? It puts a big question mark around the Scorchers attack. Not so for the batting. Bell at the top, they welcome back Adam Voges and Mitch Marsh and with the consistent Michael Klinger, it makes the batting a strength for the home team. As far as the Strikers are concerned, the inclusion of Ben Dunk to their squad and the return of a fully fit Kieron Pollard are great plusses. Their batting is exciting – Dunk (fantastic on Wednesday night), Head, Lehmann, Hodge and Pollard can all change games. The bowling is steady with Ben Laughlin and Chris Jordan the keys. They have lost the spinning focus from previous years and will be hoping at the WACA the seamers can prevail.
