Warren Huntly’s Moonee Valley Best Bets

RACE 7 NO.3 JIMMY THE BEAR

The Patrick Payne-trained JIMMY THE BEAR is racing in great form and is sure to strip fitter for his latest start, following a five week gap going into that run. He looked to work in good style at Moonee Valley earlier this week and importantly appeared comfortable around what can be a tricky circuit. The son of Jimmy Creed gives every impression he will cope with the step up to 1600m and shapes as one of the better bets on the program.

RACE 8 NO.14 CHIEF ALTONY

CHIEF ALTONY was tested at stakes level in Sydney last start and there was plenty of merit in his performance, particularly considering he was dropping back from 1600m to 1400m. He looks well suited this Saturday, coming in below the minimum weight with the claim for Will Price, in addition to stepping back up to 1600m at track that he has performed well at previously. With the track currently rated in the soft range he is sure to be comfortable on whatever track surface prevails on the day and appeals as the best bet on the card.

RACE 9 NO.11 HOME RULE

The Maddie Raymond-trained HOME RULE has been kept fresh since his last run over 1300m at Sandown and he usually runs well when produced under those circumstances. He seems to be effective on all racing surfaces and the slight drop back to 1200m looks suitable with the gap between runs. The wide draw may not be any disadvantage by this stage of the day and in a competitive race appeals on an each way basis with Damien Lane aboard.
