The Scout: Oliveira vs Poirier Posted on December 10, 2021December 10, 2021 | Posted by The Scout UFC 269 takes place in Las Vegas with Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (31-8) defending his belt against the former interim champion Dustin Poirier (28-6). Both fighters (on paper) appear evenly matched with no clear physical advantage. They stand at similar heights with similar reach. The difference is the experience and careers of both fighters, while Oliveira holds the title, he has not faced the opponents that Poirier has, particularly of late. Poirier’s fight resume boasts wins over several top 10 opponents including Connor McGregor, Justin Gaethje and Dan Hooker. Against these high-level opponents, Poirier was dominant with back-to-back TKO wins over McGregor as well as an impressive stoppage against Gaethje. Oliveira on the other hand has less impressive wins, with his most recent victory over Michael Chandler being incredibly close. and close to going the other way. The champion will have an even bigger task ahead of him against Poirier whose boxing and pace will be unlike anything he has faced before. While Oliveira is dangerous on his feet, he prefers to go to ground and use his BJJ to his advantage, resulting in 19 wins by submission. The issue Charles here is, to get the fight onto the mat he will need to get into the striking distance of Poirier and can there expect a barrage of punches before attempting a take down. Dustin Poirier has gone from strength to strength and despite having such a longer career, he is at the peak of his powers. Suggested Bet: Poirier by KO, TKO or DQ @ $2.40* *Odds correct as at 8am 10th December 2021. Market Market
