Simon O’Donnell – Caulfield Guineas Day Posted on October 7, 2016 | Posted by Simon O'Donnell We journey to Caulfield tomorrow for a big day of Group racing! It’s wonderful to see Winx joining us in Melbourne for the three-horse Caulfield Stakes, taking on Black Heart Bart, and I expect her to be too strong and continue her winning ways in what will be an interesting tactical battle with such a small field. In the Thousand Guineas for the fillies I think Harlow Gold will confirm favouritism for the VRC Oaks with a really strong run into a place tomorrow, with value odds for an each way wager. An obvious danger is Global Glamour who comes down from Sydney after taking out the Flight Stakes at Randwick last weekend, but the risk with her is backing up after a seven day break and the long trip down the Hume Highway to Melbourne. The other horse to be right there at the finish is Foxplay from the Chris Waller stable, whose form is impeccable and you’d expect her to run particularly well in the race. The Caulfield Guineas for a winning owner can be a life-changing race given the future breeding implications, however not tomorrow as I believe a gelding will be hitting the line first with Hey Doc my favoured selection to win the race. Its last two starts, particularly at Moonee Valley in the Stutt Stakes on AFL Grand Final Eve was sensational given the way he settled mid race and found the line. He steps up to Group 1 company for the first time but I think he’ll be right at the finish. The John O’Shea-trained Impending will no doubt have a say in the matter as he’s a class colt, but I think Hey Doc again at really good value odds will be first home in the Caulfield Guineas. My SuperPick this week is Hey Doc in the Caulfield Guineas; I’ll take the 25% profit plus option for the place. Enjoy a terrific weekend of high calibre racing! bet now
