Race 1

WHERE’S TIMMY really caught the eye on debut in an extremely fast run 1000 behind Modern Girl. He drew 12/12, found himself last and attacked the line really strongly late. Second-up he steps to 1200m, he draws a better barrier and considering he sat right over the speed in his barrier trial you know he can take advantage of the draw. Looks a nice race for him second-up. PARIS TREATY has looked good in all of her 400m jump outs and went shin sore on debut. Worth remembering she was kept safe at $10 in a race that contained Bassett Hound. RUN YOGI RUN got the right run at trials but did hold off a handy line up of horses including Sarabi (ran well Saturday) and Fallen City (debuted in a Gimcrack). DREAMS OF DIAMONDS is through the same race as Where’s Timmy but is drawn sticky here.

Race 2

CELEBRATORY trialled up as well (if not better) than The Crimson Pirate last preparation, with that galloper progressing through to winning a Lex Piper Stakes (Listed 1600m). This time around he got held tight for the vast majority of the trial before poking through late to miss by a half head. Like the way he goes about it and quite often on Scarpside if you can’t lead you’re best in the three deep line moving into it early. OSCARS NO GROUCH never got into the contest last start in a race dominated from the top. Should Long Laugh win the opener the form will only look stronger. JUST PETTY CASH wasn’t asked for an effort at trials (no room to move). CJP’s booking takes the attention and she maps to get every favour close handy. VIENNA CALLING trialled poorly but held her own first-up. Could entertain leading here?

Race 3

RAW UMBER was a tough watch on debut. In hindsight he really needed to join the three deep line that was building around him from the 800 to ensure he had clear galloping room on straightening but ultimately he got held up from the top of the straight until ducking inwards towards the inferior going, without any momentum. Thought he did a great job to still finish within 3L of the winner and with 8/10 coming through the same form reference race it’s easy to sell yourself that he can turn the tables with Pike going on. BLUE SPARX was solid first-up behind a nice filly in Quedjinup and then was backed off the boards in that key form race. Ran well without being brilliant. EYE OF THE SUN actually copped a big hip and shoulder out of the gates. Massive job to pick herself up and run them all down at 100-1. FORCE FIELD did it tough three deep the trip in that event and fought on bravely.

Race 4

BACK TO BONDI looks just about ready. He was solid in the slop when beaten 2.3L by Berry Blast two back and then got held tight from leader’s back at a crucial stage last start before getting a run behind Jazalot, Refemme No Angel and Articole in the worst part of the track. In a race without much speed or pressure Stevie Parnham might even find himself in front and if that’s the case he could prove hard to run down. STREAK OF GOD was an interesting run last start. He hit a real flat spot and looked like he was gone, before finding a second wind in the last 100m. Like that there’s a gear change made. BERRY BLAST found the step to Saturday company a bridge too far but her previous form was strong, including beating Back To Bondi and Jazalot on 16 July. JAZALOT certainly sharpened up in shades.

Race 5

COSMIC WALTZ resumed at 1400m when breezing and eventually gunned down by emerging mare Desert Ora (won four on the bounce) and then dropped back to 1200m second-up when finishing third to Flash Dancer and plunge horse from Saturday Sunset Session. Back out to 1400m, back to C1 company for the first time in the prep and finds a race where he could cross to the top if Shaun McGruddy wanted too. Great race on paper for him. GINGER AND TONIC ran really well two back in a similar race behind Optimus Prime, Rosie Can Run and Solo Vega. MISS DEFIES ME clearly has issues. Her last two starts have been off 28 days and 43 days and she’s already been scratched multiple times this campaign alone. Blinkers on, Pike on. AXOPAR finds this lengths easier than the 2 and 3 year old Saturday events she has contested recently.

Race 6

IMPRESSIVE JEWEL gets a 1.5kg weight swing on Sisu Spirit as well as the addition of William Pike to the saddle. Looks the kind of race where she could bully her way to the breeze, or even roll on with it, and her biggest strength is her toughness. Looks like she’s just working back into a bit of form. ELEGANT RULER has come of age this prep with new trainer Donna Riordan. Dominant first-up winner on a Soft7 before splitting I’m Crafty and subsequent winner True Fiction in a C3, a fast finishing second to Mind Field on a Heavy8 and then most recently went to a 3 year old Saturday that contained Tidwell, Southern Firetail, Western Miss, Heaven Specified and a host of horses with more ability and future than what she meets here. The issue – horses don’t win from 3 back fence at Scarpside. MUSGRAVE a watch fresh off a failed Broome Cup trip. SISU SPIRIT appreciated getting out in trip.

Race 7

LETS TAKE A CHANCE looks a staying type on the rise. Steady and discernible improvement start to start in what is his initial racing preparation stepping from 1200 to 1400 to 1675 and now to 1800m. 13 days ago he won a 1675m maiden beating Field Mistress (won at her next outing) and Delicate Warrior (won at his next outing) – the form from the maiden win couldn’t be hotter – and he looks like the further they go the better he’ll get. Nice stepping stone into a 60+ Grad on a Saturday in the near future. ACQUIRED TASTE is well placed here by Michael Grantham. 3 year old 0MWLY into a C5 and now right back in grade into a C1. She’s the logical danger. AWESOME FORCE has been screaming out for ground and finally gets it here. BARNEY ROMMEL is finding the line well.

Race 8

THE NUN wasn’t knocked around in her recent barrier trial and clearly boasts the strongest form in the race. Her 3 year old Plate runner-up performance to Twisted Steel (beating home Bassett Hound in the process) coupled with her second placing to Searchin’ Times (beating home So Si God) both really stand out. She can work her way through the grades this prep. SWANSEE and SURROUND ME both ran into the highly progressive Cinque Stelle last start and given what she did to a Graduation field on Saturday they’ll both understandably have their fair share of followers. ROAMING AMERICA only blew out late first-up at 1200m and looked like he would take great benefit from the run. Can park and ride on free rolling leader Catch Carter.
