Scott Embry’s Wednesday Northam Preview Posted on October 16, 2018 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 OLIVIA KNOWS sat on top of a hot tempo on debut and was beaten a fair way. Suggesting that form will prove strong with nice maiden types Choice Command, Sounds of Then etc engaged. Gets her chance in a far weaker maiden. GUNFLINT trialed up well for his return and is drawn to sit in the box seat with the cutaway on offer. Big danger. SUNDARI has been trialing well since mid 2017 and finally comes to the races. WILD GALAH has reasonable 2 year old form. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – OLIVIA KNOWS EACHWAY Race 2 SON OF BACCHUS has showed speed and ability at trials and drawn soft he should be right in the thick of things in an even race. MEGAZONE has trialled well and blinkers go on but he is drawn awkwardly and likely to do it tough. BALTASAR has not been asked for a whole lot in two recent trials at Belmont and could surprise a few. READ THE RIOT act ran them along in strong time at Belmont trials and draws to sit close handy. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – SON OF BACCHUS WIN Race 3 PLATOON does look near on impossible to hold out here. Second to Chix Pic who is now a Bunbury Classic winner in the Perth Stakes and then third to Lordhelpmerun and Lady Cosmology in the Sires Produce. He will be aiming towards the Guineas and needs to win this to justify nomination. INFLATION should sit right on top of the speed and looked promising at trials. KRISELLA can hug the fence and use the cutaway. FIRST STRIKES comes from what could be a strong maiden form reference race. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 12 – 10 Suggested Bet – PLATOON WIN Race 4 BURNING PRIDE drops in grade and has an apprentice engaged to take off a little more weight. Obviously not going anywhere near as well as when she ran a gallant fifth in the WA Oaks but this race is thin and she can run a race. PRINCE HAL has put together three impressive runs when only beaten a handful of lengths. DRINK THE RAINBOW comes straight out of maiden grade into a race which is not a lot deeper. NAVY BLUE does things wrong but the small field helps. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – BURNING PRIDE WIN Race 5 COOL SERENITY is likely to sit outside or length or two behind the speedy Ice Maker and should get the first crack at running him down. Was a nice run in defeat last time out against tougher opposition. ICE MAKER has hit a purple patch when carrying no weight at all. He’ll burn along. MORE BXAAR will get a long way off them and has been a tough follow this preparation but will be coming home hard. TRADE PRIZE is lightly raced and has raced against better than these. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – COOL SERENITY WIN Race 6 BOMBS AWAY is placed excellently by an astute stable. Maps to sit just behind a strong top end tempo and after the 3kg claim for McNaught should be right in the finish. Form around Electric Light, Big Caroline, Crystal Spirit and Night Voyage is super. CHINETTI was incredibly well supported last start and gave 4kg claimer Kristy Bennett her first winner, can do similar for Edwards here. ROYALIC is back in grade and has blinkers added to further sharpen. SECRET ASSAULT is drawn poorly but will charge across. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BOMBS AWAY WIN Race 7 CRISTAL DANE is an intriguing runner, 3 year old taking on the older horses stepping up from 1000m to 1300m for the first time. Has shown huge ability and can definitely win but will concede them a big head start. NEUROLOGICAL has always shown ability and looks the type of horse who will struggle to see out long preparations. Gets another wonderful chance here to make it two on the bounce. SEASIDE SERENADE may be better suited back in trip and has been going better than recent paper form suggests. APOLLO can sit midfield and shoot straight up the cutaway. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – CRISTAL DANE WIN Race 8 SKILLED HUNTER may be best suited really running them hard at this sort of trip rather trying to rack and stack. Last two have been poor but previous three were solid. ‘The Boond’ engaged should ensure he finds the front and can run a cheeky race at huge odds. TOP RATED was a strong enough return first-up without a trial to suggest he can turn the tables on Motorvator who beat him home that day. MOTORVATOR is drawn an inside gate and will likely have to wait for the cutaway run with his typical racing pattern. MIDNIGHT DRAMA has been freshened after a disappointing run last start. Previous form was very strong albeit on rain affected tracks. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – SKILLED HUNTER EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,7,10 1 1,3,4,5,11 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,12 Market Market
