Scott Embry’s Wednesday Bunbury Preview Posted on July 14, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 QUEDJINUP and CROCS are both drawn wide and look like they’ll get off the speed which makes for an interesting 1100m scamper to dissect in the opener. The last time the rail was at 6m with a cutaway (12 Feb) you really wanted to be up close handy so they may both be a touch vulnerable, especially considering their likely prices? Going to go with GOD OF TEXAS at a double figure quote as a point of difference / map runner. Recent trial behind now maiden and 3 year old Saturday winner Dawn Dancer was handy and from the draw he should bounce out and put himself in a really prominent position throughout. QUEDJINUP looks well above average. Sat three deep throughout to win a trial and then effortlessly covered them in the most recent. Just drawn sticky. CROCS caught the eye on debut at 100-1 flooding home late. ACE SNIPER trialled well leading into her debut and was immediately tipped out after. Numbers: 4 – 11 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – GOD OF TEXAS EACHWAY RACE 2 OSCARS NO GROUCH resumed in a 3 year old 62+ behind Zourun Run and Deep Lyric, finishing third beaten 2L. Zourun Run finished in the money in a 66+ behind Magical Sequence on the weekend (with big excuses) and Deep Lyric finished second to progressive sprinter Common Touch (who is 3/3 this prep). It’s clearly the right form reference coming back into maiden company and he just needs to jump cleanly to take advantage of that inside draw and settle up just in behind the leaders. PANCHO’S PLACE was electric out of the machine at barrier trials and that was without the blinkers that Mack Hall adds here. Expect Jarrad Noske will go on a jump and run mission. MOONS ECHO is undefeated at trials and we’ve seen 2x 2 year olds beat the older horses in maidens in the last 7 days. SUNSET SESSION has promised to win a race his entire career but he again draws wide and looks like being 3 deep? Not much has gone right for him so far and it looks ugly on paper. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 12 – 1 Suggested Bet – OSCARS NO GROUCH WIN RACE 3 DARK AVALANCE broke his maiden at the BTC from the breeze first-up last campaign before finishing third behind now m72 and 3x Saturday winner Urquharts Bluff second-up. He resumed at Belmont on a Heavy8 first-up, no trial and was awkwardly away and spat out the back to an unfamiliar position in running. Love the way he attacked the line late and if he steps cleanly can settle at least a pair closer in running. $5.50 looks a great eachway price. SNIP OF ROMANCE is flying and seemingly appreciating being ridden for speed. Knocking on the door and getting close now. UNFORTUNATE LAD can box seat on the leader and then either use the cutaway or push into the clear on straightening. Identical run to what he enjoyed at trials. DEEPEST DESIRE won well fresh but this is a completely different map. Could even be three deep? Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – DARK AVALANCHE EACHWAY RACE 4 DESERT ORA has now won her last three in a row. From an Albany maiden into an Albany C2 and then off an 8 week freshen into a C3 at Pinjarra. This is first time 1400m and a career high weight for her but she couldn’t have asked for a thinner 3 year old 0MWLY. Looks a wonderful opportunity to make it four on the bounce and continue on her winning ways. SOVEREIGN SALUTE is a nice 3 year old in the making. Talent wise he’s probably the best horse that Chris Stelmach has had in her yard for quite some time and considering he’s a middle distance type he did a great job at trials to try and sprint with Cinque Stelle who is a 1000m horse. No surprise to see him give this a big shake. ACQUIRED TASTE worked home well late through traffic last week. MISS DEFIES ME hasn’t quite raced to the level of her debut win again just yet. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – DESERT ORA WIN RACE 5 PARTAY should take care of rivals here. He went around $1.80 in a C3 last weekend that contained in form mare Shimonoseki, 7 days later he’s backing up into a C1, is 1700m back to 1400m and should hold the top without much pressure. From there get the feeling he’ll be sneaking away from rivals on straightening and proving too classy. Looks a $1.40/$1.50 pop on paper. MYSTERIOUS FORTUNE has found trouble at his last two outings. Both forgive runs. The last time he backed up he ran well behind I’m Odette. AWESOME FORCE naturally gets back in his races and is wanting more and more ground. UNGOVERNED will find these lengths easier than the 60+ Graduation they raced him in last time out at Belmont Park. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – PARTAY WIN RACE 6 AMERICAN IMAGE and COSMO RULER are both last start maiden winning fillies who won same day, same track, same grade and nearly same price. AMERICAN IMAGE was nominated and accepted for a C2 at Kalgoorlie on Sunday, but is far too good for that and was scratched to instead accept here. With a 3kg pull in the weights and a better barrier than her fellow filly going to go her way in what should be a really exciting clash. COSMO RULER has come back in excellent order. First-up was beaten narrowly at the hands of Articole who has since won a C1, and then she duly saluted second-up at $1.30 stretching away to win by nearly 2L late. Rises 3.5kg start to start and draws awkwardly here but does look really progressive. SAIGON DANCER gets some weight relief with Natika Riordan going on and looks to be screaming out for 1400. BIG KAY DOG has shades added and drops back in trip. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – AMERICAN IMAGE WIN RACE 7 HERE FOR CHEQUES has been a little hit and miss over the last 12 – 18 months, but he now dropped 10 ratings point from a career peak of m74, can bounce out and land in a position up close handy and his last win was 8th up in a campaign, so he does tend to get fitter and tougher into his preparations. Don’t think he handled the Heavy8 that well last start in a race where they went too hard for their own good (first 1050m run 10L faster than average), so on a drier surface he can hopefully bounce back to somewhere near his best and run a cheeky eachway race at a price. ESTA MIRANDO ran past him commofrtably in that key form reference race and deserves favouritism. Hopefully by this stage of the day they’re making ground down the centre in the three deep line. SHAULA is rock hard fit and can settled up closer here in a race devoid of speed. CHOLLIMA only needs to run to the level of two starts ago when fourth in a 66+ to be right in the finish. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – HERE FOR CHEQUES EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,7 1 1,2,4 1,4,5,11 Market Market
