Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on June 27, 2023June 27, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 RED SQUARE had to dig deep on debut to hold off a talented swooper in Why Me. He steps out to 1200m, slides across from his wide draw and will park over the speed. He was undefeated at trials (including out bobbing Hanchi) and looks like he’ll be hard to get past again. ZENIQUE has caught the eye at trials. He’s drawn an inside gate on debut and the way he has trialled the 6 furlongs should be to his liking. CAMERA ACTION is from a winner producing family and like Zenique from the favourable alley should get all the favours on debut. STATE OF FURY comes through a Saturday race first-up when fifth behind handy types King Cartel, More Special, Rope Them In and Princess Lacillia. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet – RED SQUARE WIN RACE 2 CAVALLO RED went under at $1.28 at his last start before a spell but has trialled up twice in impressive fashion. William Pike takes the ride and from the draw should have him parked ideally behind the speed poised to strike. Has shown a nice turn of foot at trials after being held up and this looks very winnable for him on return. THE RUSH has finished second at her last four outings. She’s bursting to win a race and if the cutaway zone is hot then she’s a big chance of breaking through. YALLINGUP GIRL was well thought of on debut and struck a Heavy9. Showed plenty getting through the difficult going. SPIRIT OF GERRY loomed large last start but couldn’t quite finish off. Now shades go on. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet – CAVALLO RED WIN RACE 3 COSMOPOLITAN GIRL and RUPERT’S EMPIRE met on 29 March in a near identical version of this race (3yo 0MWLY 1000 at Belmont) and COSMOPOLITAN GIRL got the nose down right on the line to zap RUPERT’S EMPIRE. They meet again and there’s a 2kg weight swing in favour of COSMOPOLITAN GIRL. She’s raced well below her best at her last couple but considering the likely price differential going to roll the dice with her. Happy to follow anything out of the Too Dardy, Berbere form. RUPERT’S EMPIRE hasn’t missed the top 2 in his life and he trialled well enough without blinkers. Always popular in betting. LOST GRAVITY is quick and will march along out in front. ALASKALOT will be doing his best late. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – COSMOPOLITAN GIRL EACHWAY RACE 4 GO GO GROMMET has a stack of raw ability but a few barrier quirks to go with it. He is yet to step cleanly at trials or races and now the task of trying to get him out of the machine rests with new rider and senior rider Jarrad Noske. He drops into a C1 for the first time in his life and this is lengths easier than the 3 year old 0MWLY 1000 in Race 3 where he could have also accepted. Risk vs Reward with a horse like him. BUTTERFLY HOUSE is a mare who you can always get a run out of fresh. Think she’s also well suited to the cutaway style of racing – sit and sprint. OUTFIELD broke through last start down the straight and beat a handy one in Lost Gravity in doing so. BELLE’S FANTASY charged to the line fresh. Draw hurts. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – GO GO GROMMET WIN RACE 5 YARRALEA should have enough gate speed to muster through and park on the back of rolling leader Runforrob. From there she will enjoy a lovely cart into the race and on the 7 day back-up drops back into a more suitable C1. Her first-up run behind Kelvinator (running straight past Imperialize/Sizzle Me Patrick/Madame Magic) was a ripper and then she had no luck at all last Wednesday. Nice race for her. LUCKY’S WAY did everything wrong last week and yet still ran well. Blinkers off could be a key gear change. RUNFORROB likes to roll and he’s pretty hard to get past. Nice assignment for him first-up and looks in for a good campaign. BLEECKER STREET was huge last start behind Falcon Trader and Oceanzara in a C3. Just don’t know where he gets from the horror draw? Numbers: 4 – 10 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – YARRALEA EACHWAY RACE 6 HINT OF MINT won a 1200 0MWLY with 59kg from barrier 1 last start and looks to have a near identical set up a fortnight later. There’s much more speed added to this event (Cliffs Of Comfort and Trevern) so she’ll need to stay in touch with them in the middle stages but she’s a mare in form and she’s more than capable of going back to back. CLIFFS OF COMFORT has actually never raced in an event rated as low as this since his maiden win. His last 15 outings have been in higher grade and he has blinkers added for the first time in his career. Big respect. FOREST WAR can park behind the speed and the cutaway is available to him. TREVERN comes into this a month between runs but seems to go well fresh. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – HINT OF MINT WIN RACE 7 VILLAGE GIRL chased hard behind a pretty handy provincial type in He’sgotwings last start at Northam. She steps out to 1400m second-up and has 58.5kg to carry but you can’t underestimate just how well Ike Racing is going at the minute. She’ll get the right run and she’ll go round eachway. EXCELTRAIN drops out of Listed 3 year old company and can come out running to offset the wide draw. Big winner before heading to the winter features. SUCCESS PLAY has snuck back into a C3 for the first time in a long while. He trialled quite well and then met with support at odds first-up. EMERALD TRADER misses away too often. Plenty of ability but it has become a bad habit. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – VILLAGE GIRL EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,9 4,5,7,10 1,2,3,4 1,2,5,6,7,8,9,12 Market Market
