Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on February 25, 2025February 25, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOLDOUT looks ready to win. The main fancies are through the Ahrea race in which Holdout met with good support in betting at odds ($21 into $14) and ran well into second. Can park up over the speed and looks as good a chance as any. LONG WAIT is through the same race and made up good late ground to be beaten only 3L. There’s little between them but one goes forward and the other goes back. Could be the difference. CELEBRITY SKIN was better with the shades on. BELLONA GIRL an improver at odds. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – HOLDOUT WIN RACE 2 BLUE ROCKET is a Saturday winning 2 year old and has placed to sharp stablemate Perfect Chant in a Saturday 3 year old Plate. Trial was excellent, in very good time and after the ZJP claim she looks hard to beat. Interesting to see whether they start here Wednesday or scratch and save for Saturday. PRIZED RECRUIT and OVERDRIVE did battle last start and the market was all over Overdrive. There’s a 1kg weight swing in her favour to turn the tables. HOBELAR won his trial by panels. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – BLUE ROCKET WIN RACE 3 COME ON EMMA looks hard to beat here. She sat three deep the trip to break her maiden and then 12 days later was thrown into the 3 year old Magic Millions at Pinjarra when finishing 2.5L off Smooth Chino, London’s Image, Perfect Chant and Shmoov Moova. That’s a great form reference and she’s back to a mid-week C1. Well placed, well drawn and Simon Miller’s last 90 days have been elite. NEVER THE TWAIN put the writing on the wall last start. JUST GIFTED is a handy filly resuming. BONNY ROCK had excuses fresh. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – COME ON EMMA WIN RACE 4 FUNCHAL was beaten by Rubick Lass last start at 1400m and a fortnight later they meet again over 1600m with a 1kg weight swing in favour of the filly. Expecting her to overcome barrier 1 and burst her way through traffic to an Ascot 1000 Guineas bound victory. Think she’s above average. MISSISSIPPI DAWN is the other 3 year old in the race and she’s also likely headed on a 1000 Guineas, Natasha Stakes, WA Oaks pathway. She’s got plenty of upside. BLAZING EMERALD is knocking on the door. RUBICK LASS caused a boilover last start. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – FUNCHAL WIN RACE 5 SHOOTING SPIRIT drops out of a Grad 1000 down the straight at Pinjarra where he resumed off 45 days and got to the line powerfully behind in form stablemate Rocking Gem (won 4 from 5 this time in). He’s a get back sprinter, so he’s always going to need conditions to suit and will always be a risky betting proposition, however, it’s hard to ignore the replay and the form line. BOSISTO completely switched off when he hit the front on debut and nearly got himself beat in the final strides. KING ADVISO and MAGIC BELLE will run. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – SHOOTING SPIRIT WIN RACE 6 SALT LAKE SHAKE is an all or nothing proposition. He’ll either jump, run, kick clear and hold on – or he’ll fold up in the last 100m and get swamped. Back in grade, back in distance (key) and an apprentice rider brings a much needed 1.5kg off his back. Now or never for him. CANNY ROCK can box set and track his every move. 61kg is an ask but he’s been racing well all preparation. MUDDY WATERS needs to jump to give himself a fighting chance. BOUSSAC had a great prep when last in work. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – SALT LAKE SHAKE WIN RACE 7 SOSO LUCKY looks ready to win. She was narrowly defeated last start and with Essentric Nature winning out of that form reference and meeting key rival Zouboltz 1.5kg better at the weights this time around thinking that she can turn the tables on him. ZOUBOLTZ went to the line locked together with stablemate Rocket Juice last week. Backs up and draws to get a gun run. Flying this prep. EN PLEIN AIR comes back to 1200m and when ridden conservatively can show a decent turn of foot. SEEYOUATTHESESSION is off 7 days and Simon Miller’s recent runners on the back-up have been huge. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – SOSO LUCKY WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,4,7,9 1,2,3,5,6 1,2 3,6,7,9 Market Market
