Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on February 14, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CUT THE TALK won a maiden down the straight at Pinjarra and then a C1 1000 at Belmont holding off the late charge of a wayward Playthatfunkymusic. Went to a 3 year old Plate last start when splitting now Cyril Flower Stakes winner My Bella Mae and 3 year old Magic Millions contender Street Parade in an 1100m scamper run 4.5L faster than average. Drops back into a midweeker and is drawn to stalk speedy fillies Bisector and Work In Progress. Nice race for him. BISECTOR couldn’t go with Wild Belle when the pressure went on and pulled up with heat stress. This is her grade and the Ascot 1000 makes her hard to run down. WORK IN PROGRESS blew herself up pre-race last start and was poor. PLATINUM CLASS next best. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – CUT THE TALK WIN RACE 2 MARMOOGA finished fourth behind Renato, Trespassing and Supersession on debut off the back of a hot trial. The blinkers came off last start and she was trapped three and then soon after four deep in running and never gave it away behind City Angel and Frantic War. With the engagement of Holly Watson many punters will anticipate positive tactics to try and cross these. If she gets across she’ll be very hard to get past. AROOCHACHA went around a $3.80 chance on debut behind Baalbek, beating home Rupert’s Empire in the process. Trial was sound at Belmont when sneaking up the inside late. DON’T TRUST JUDAS looks new and green but showed ability in his trial win. CALIFORNIA RISING finds this easier than what he’s contested to date. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – MARMOOGA WIN RACE 3 FLURO NEURO will have plenty of admirers at his Grant & Alana William debut. Was beaten a nose on debut and then finished second behind Miss Drakova (who went from that maiden win to run third behind Laced Up Heels and Amelia’s Jewel in the Burgess Queen Stakes). Shades come off, Pike goes on and he’s drawn to enjoy a lovely run close handy to the speed. Good maiden this but he’ll be popular. FRANTIC WAR put together two solid trials leading into his return and was stiff not to get the job done after parking deep, being pushed out on straightening and then coming again on the line. Won’t be a maiden long. AMBER GLIDE has been trialling very well. She’ll get back but she’ll be doing her best late. SHE’S IMMINENT showed something at the back end of her trial at Belmont. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 12 – 14 Suggested Bet – FLURO NEURO WIN RACE 4 ROCK THIS TOWN and CRUISE TO VICTORY were both impressive straight 1000m winners and CITY ANGEL did everything wrong fresh and still got the job done at Belmont round the bend. Think that Paul Harvey can let the speed go here (Rakiura, Toppa The Mountain, The Ribonacci, Rock This Town) and then make his move on straightening. Loved her trial, landed the money fresh and can go on with it now. CRUISE TO VICTORY flashed huge upside as a 2 year old. Was very fired up pre-race at Pinjarra and not many horses win down the middle ‘wrong’ side of the straight. ROCK THIS TOWN smashed the clock on debut in a high-speed performance. Didn’t jump second-up and was a forgive effort. DYNAMIC RULER next best. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – ROCK THIS TOWN WIN RACE 5 ALASKALOT drops out of the Listed WA Breeder’s Classic into a mid week Class 1. He finished 3L off All The King’s Men, subsequent Challenge Stakes winner Feels Playful and subsequent 63+ winner Planet Cash. Given the volume of money that came for Planet Cash in the 63+ ($4.20 into $3.40) and Gage Roads in the 60+ Graduation ($4.40 into $2.75) it’s a reasonable expectation that he’ll be highly popular in early betting. Great placement. AXEMAN’S JAZZ won on debut and trialled like a horse who would need every inch of the 1500m. Think he’ll make a nice stayer in time. KELVINATOR hasn’t been seen for 39 days. Trial was good and first-up 1100 was simply too short. DIAMOND SCENE improved lengths first-up to second-up. Not completely sold (yet). Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – ALASKALOT WIN RACE 6 MAJOR MAX resumes in a C3 against the older horses. At the end of his first preparation he carried 57.5kg in a 3 year old 0MWLY when winning by over a length over Swim Through. Thought his recent trial win at Belmont Park was extremely strong and he should enjoy a lovely run close handy to the speed. Deep C3 but he’s one of multiple winning chances. AVOIDANCE won a BM64 at Newcastle when leading throughout in August. Should be winning races in WA and trialled softly under William Pike. DAZZLING DANE has her first start for Simon Miller and has blinkers on first time. HONEY DEW hasn’t fired a shot since her impressive trial win, however, she drops in grade and gets in well after the claim. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – MAJOR MAX WIN RACE 7 WEE RIPPER ran a ripper fresh in a 60+ Graduation behind Speedy Miss when racing midfield with cover. Had to work forward from his wide gate last start and doesn’t seem to be the same horse when he races without cover. Thinking here that from the ideal gate new rider Troy Turner can have him parked in behind the speed and poised to strike. Winnable for him at his best. QUEEN OF JERUSALEM pulled her way forward in a slowly run race last start. Went down fighting and has plenty of wins in store for her between the 1600 & 2200. Will need to push her way off the fence at some stage. BEAT THE BRO showed something last start. He might be almost ready to bob up. WISE COUNSEL never got going in the same race. Senior rider goes on and previous win at Pinjarra was strong. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – WEE RIPPER EACHWAY RACE 8 NOBLE BORN sat back in his trial and didn’t wear blinkers. Last preparation in a 3 year old 62+ he split Catalpa and Knot Secret. That’s arguably the best form in the race and he can roll forward to settle up over the speed. Only missed the money once in his life and has always had a following. Goes round eachway and rarely runs a bad race. ROMANCING THE ROCK is a talented and lightly raced 4 year old. Worked through his gears nicely in his trial. LAQUETTA’S GIFT hasn’t been seen for 7 weeks since finishing half a head of Challenge Stakes winner Feels Playful. Keep safe. ROCK MY WAY has had a freshen. She’s clearly a talented filly with a sustained turn of foot. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – NOBLE BORN EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,4 1,3,4,5,6 1,3,4,7,9,12,13 1,2,7,8,9 Market Market
