Scott Embry’s Thursday’s Northam Preview Posted on November 18, 2020November 18, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 STAR STORM looked good in a recent trial and is drawn outside the other debutante and other speed horse in Canto De Guerra. Thinking that Brad Parnham and Star Storm might have enough early toe to cross and then have Canto De Guerra in a pocket behind her. She does look jump and run and capable of making a winning start to her career. CANTO DE GUERRA has all the gear thrown at him. Blinkers, cross over nose band, lugging bit, tongue tie. Was a super soft trial and is the clear danger. No surprise to see him win on debut. ALL METAL chased hard on debut and the winner could be a star in the making. SPIRITED SESSION is drawn awkwardly in the small field but racing well. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – STAR STORM WIN RACE 2 DRAGONFLIES is a nightmare. He clearly has well above average ability but poor Kieran McDonagh has a tough time even getting him onto the track. If he can show even 50% of his best behaviour and 60% of his top ability he should finally get the job done. Pre-race ear muffs come off (Good Luck Brad) but hopefully he shows up. MATERIAL WITNESS wobbled around throughout the entire Lark Hill straight but was impressive in the way he charged through the line. SHOCK RESULT was held back to the field first-up after being allowed to roll in the trial. VRUM has had no luck so far in his career. Inside gate should help. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – DRAGONFLIES WIN RACE 3 THERE’S A THOUGHT is bred to stay all day and the Danny Morton/Brad Parnham combination has been helping punters buy houses for the last 3 months. This is a lightly raced filly who looks progressive and is taking on a lot of very exposed opponents. OUR D’AMOUR loomed as the winner last start when they turned for home on Melbourne Cup Day but Miss Maranta was just in a better position than her and they finished a clear first and second. This looks another great chance to break through. ELLEVISTA looks an out and out stayer. INSIDE VOICE is building to a maiden win. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – THERE’S A THOUGHT WIN RACE 4 NUHAD has had three runs this preparation. First-up ran fifth behind Clairvoyance, Queen Brown and Gemma’s Son in the 3 year old classic. Was then beaten a nose on the line by talented stablemate American Choice and then lead them to the corner in the Burgess Queen Stakes when fading to run a distant last. Comes back to C1 company, back to 1100m and gets a senior rider on. Ticks plenty of boxes. SHEZABUTOO has been flying this preparation but has raced extremely erratically and waywardly. Brad Parnham should straighten her up. JANAURA is well placed into a C1 race and is an excellent use of Victoria Corver’s 3kg claim. SHAPE SHIFTER is a capable type resuming. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – NUHAD WIN RACE 5 OUTLAW KING was huge on debut when hitting the line hard behind Last of the Line (now a 62+ and 60+ winner) and beating home Miss Margaux who eventually broke her maiden for SJ Miller. At his second outing he was hard in the market but didn’t look comfortable at any stage and was tipped out for a spell. Could get under the guard here and this is a weak maiden. KEEPER’S DREAM has his first start in WA and if he has any level of ability should be going close in a race like this. REGAL CITY steps out in trip which is interesting. Looks very green and raw. GREAT DIVIDE an improver at odds. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet – OUTLAW KING EACHWAY RACE 6 MR DELEGATOR is a progressive 4 year old resuming. Has always started hard in the market at each run since his debut when he split Cliffs of Comfort and Giant Leap. Is first-up at 1300m and has to carry 59.5kg so he’ll want to be ready to go but he looks capable of going through the grades and making a Saturday horse. CARABINIER was a strong winner first-up in a Westspeed Platinum race. This is the first time he has dropped back into C3 company for the preparation. BELLE OF LIBERTY was good first-up and then was legless in the market second-up when failing to fire a shot. MISSALFIE has some handy form to her name as a 3 year old. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – MR DELEGATOR WIN RACE 7 AMERICAN CHOICE looks well placed to score another Northam win for emerging apprentice Keshaw Dhurun. Two starts ago this track and distance sat just off the stablemate Nuhad and picked her up in the shadows of the post. Last start went into a hot 3 year old Saturday race and wasn’t disgraced when beaten 3.2L and was the target of strong support. This is a far easier assignment and she can box seat. POWER AND PASSION beat home Kallaroo and Panzdown two starts ago That’s great form for a C3. JOVELLA was a first-up winner last campaign but now finds a new home. ACERMETRIC resumed well. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – AMERICAN CHOICE WIN RACE 8 CABLE GUY was the on top selection last week and looked a really good bet. Was $6.5 into $3.2 and then everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Almost no entry in the Stewards Report so on paper it will look like an average run but he ended up in the worst possible position and hit the line full of running. Backs up off 7 days and we’re going to butter up. In Kyra we trust. TRADE STORM has returned extremely well for Angela Smith’s Wagin operation and there is no reason why he can’t win again. CORNFLOWER has hit a purple patch of form and is going super. OUR IDYLL was below her best first-up and can improve sharply. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – CABLE GUY WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,9,11 1,2,3 1 3,4,5,6,7,8,10 Market Market
