Scott Embry’s Thursday York Preview Posted on November 16, 2022November 16, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FINAL AUTHORITY was bitterly disappointing last start at Albany when never looking a winning chance. Prior to that finished second to Capricorn Man beating home Mama Tembu and three starts ago split Acefire and Belle’s Fantasy (races Wednesday at Northam). Drops into a 52+, drops 2kg and can nearly lead them. Great race for him to bounce back. BIRD’S THE WORD is another who raced far below his best last start at Albany. Prior form was strong and he is a previous York winner. LIFE FOR A LIFE can be hard to catch but at his best he’s good enough. CAPTAIN SHARMANE won well last start and should only improve. Tricky gate. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – FINAL AUTHORITY WIN RACE 2 WHAITIRI has always promised to win a maiden. She’s had 20 starts this preparation in a campaign dating back to February 2022. Finished second in a mile maiden at Northam, second in an mile maiden at Pinjarra and third in a 2200m maiden at Northam. The fact she’s top weight in this maiden handicap shows just how weak it is and her last start effort behind Ocean Aura and subsequent winner Restful was strong. Be great to see her finally break through. FEARLESS GOD was well found in betting last start behind Allegiance. BULLS EYE PERFECT ran some nice races for new trainer Indianna Weinert earlier this campaign. 6 weeks between runs at 1920m an ask. DENTED ROMANCE races like he’s looking for ground. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – WHAITIRI WIN RACE 3 KELLY’S LASSIE was specked off in betting two starts ago and ran really well on a leader dominated program at Northam. Dropped into a 46+ at York last start, shades went on and she was narrowly beaten by Military Beat. Stays in the same grade, rises only half a kilo and drops back 200m. Only concern (obvious concern) is where she gets from the barrier. NUTWOOD trialled super leading into her return to racing. Had absolutely no luck when resuming on Cup Day at Ascot when tramping wide throughout. WEAPON OF CHOICE is a York specialist and nobody rides the track better than Laqdar Ramoly (special mentions J.Whiting & T.Turner). ROSEBUSH returns to the races and under the tutelage of Kye Raymond Stewart is sure to look a treat. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S LASSIE WIN RACE 4 COLLECTIVE trialled alongside Toronado Bull at Belmont over 1000m. While he didn’t win on debut he ran a credible race and that looks a handy trial reference for a maiden handicap at York. Neville Parnham took debut winner The Chief Justice from the trials to York and has followed a similar path with Collective. Don’t mind this as a starting point for her. GAPSBETWEENTHEEARS gets in on the 54kg minimum and comes through races with far more depth than what she meets here. Don’t discount her. MY TOP SECRET went well fresh. JAG SUPERTROOPER is closing in on a victory. Numbers: 4 – 11 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – COLLECTIVE WIN RACE 5 PADDY’S ART has always shown a level of ability. Won by the length of the straight at Collie and then was bizarrely plunged at Albany. Missed away badly so didn’t get to see whether or not he would have measured up. Going to follow the money trail and with a senior rider on see where/how he lines up in this. LUCY DA GREY is a barrier horse and yet again she’s drawn to get the run she needs. UNDER THE RADAR has been going along well since returning to the grass. DOES HE KNOW looks for the top underneath Under The Radar. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – PADDY’S ART WIN RACE 6 MIETTE STAR won this track, this distance, this grade last start by 2.7L when leading throughout in an overall time 5L faster than average. Looks a great opportunity for CJP to rinse and repeat and take the mare straight to the top. Looked a completely different mare allowed to stride out in front. DUKE OF MANGUS seems to run for Jordy Turner and goes well at the track. BELL LAP is a nice 4 year old. The barrier hurts and the weight is an ask first-up. GOLDEN BONNEY is suited to this grade. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – MIETTE STAR WIN RACE 7 MILITARY BEAT won this track, this distance, this grade last start beating home Kelly’s Lassie. If she was to go well in Race 3 then you’d be following it as the obvious form reference into this. Looks like she’ll get back but can sustain a run and horses who win at York invariably go well at their following attempts there. Horses for courses set up. AL MAHALO didn’t really go in the dirt when heading up to the NW. Keep safe at his return to the grass. SILVER BO gets back but has a big L600 on her for this grade. VITAI LAMPADA a blow out chance. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet – MILITARY BEAT WIN RACE 8 KING KASHOO looks about ready. He finished off hard behind Missalfie last start in a trying 1920m race which was set alight by Smoking Barrel in the middle stages. Gets 1.5kg on Missalfie and from the gate should sneak up in behind them into a commanding position. MISSALFIE is saved for these races by trainer Warwick Bradshaw. Her last four wins have been: 1800m C2 Mt Barker, 52+ 1920m Narrogin, 52+ 1920m York and 52+ 1920m. It’s nearly the exact same race on four different occasions. Loves the track, loves the distance and Kyra Yuill rides her well. Hard to knock. RHYTHM STAR is suited to this grade and can sustain a run which is key at York. SMOKING BARREL is ready now. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – KING KASHOO WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,5,6,7 1,7,8 2,5,10 2,5,6,9 Market Market
