Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on June 26, 2024June 26, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DESERT EDGE loomed the winner last start but just couldn’t quite get past the heavily commissioned Skittish. Should be able to amble straight to the front here and dictate terms to them. Turns it into a sit and sprint to suit himself and can pinch it. MILYEANNUP looks the danger. She’s having her first run over the distance but always gives the indication she wants further. Danger from leader’s back. CLAIREANN was a distant third in the Skittish/Desert Edge race last start. LATE FLYER showed something. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – DESERT EDGE WIN RACE 2 ABISSI has run well enough in all three outings to suggest that stepping out to 1600m he’ll be hard to hold out late. Ran into Petroucka last start and with that filly running a big second to Luvnwar in the Belmont Guineas it looks the right form reference. Michael Grantham is fresh off a Saturday treble and he should get every chance from the draw. COVENTRY REEF is a long time maiden but continues to attack the line. TROOPER PHOENIX will win one of these 1600-2000m maidens in the near future. PRIZED JEWEL was only 2.5L off History Won’t Care last start. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – ABISSI WIN RACE 3 VENTURO gets blinkers re-attached after they were removed at the start of the campaign. His last start was in a 3 year old 0MWLY when he finished third behind Brave Shot and Skytalker. If he can reproduce that level of performance back into a maiden then he should take beating. PIRATES ALLEY was well supported in both outings in his initial preparation. The Play Dice (DQ’d), My Jimmy, Khutos, Platinum Shot form race is good enough for this. SAFARI BOY an improver at odds. IMPENDING FEATURE is a top 4 chance if she can sneak a start as E1. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 12 Suggested Bet – VENTURO WIN RACE 4 KRAKEN TIME was a test of character for punters in his initial preparation. Great trials at Lark Hill leading into his debut when held up the entire length of the straight at Pinjarra and then it was a case of déjà vu at Belmont Park when the exact same thing happened. First-up, no trial but think he’ll make a nice horse in time and can win this maiden fresh. With a cutaway in play he (hopefully) gets a run through. MIGHTY MELBA impressed at trials putting a margin on them late. TRA LA LA was honest in both of her runs last campaign and won her barrier trial too. RULESQUE has had 9 trials across multiple preparations to get him ready to debut. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – KRAKEN TIME WIN RACE 5 THE GREAT HOYA was brilliant last start at Bunbury when punching out deep for the majority of the race and finishing third only beaten 2L. That race was run 4L faster than average and now from barrier 2 he should get a far more economical run. Has been in form ever since arriving at Jade Tangaroa’s stables and looks winnable for him. BONNIE LAD is a sharp sprinter for these provincial C5 races. He’s easily a 60+ Grad type and is dangerous late. CAPRE OMNIA has a big L600 when saved up for one last crack. STORM COMMANDER maps well and is racing with great consistency. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE GREAT HOYA WIN RACE 6 MOCHA DREAM is nicely placed here and the Adam Durrant team is starting to build up a bit of momentum again. Will need the pattern to allow them to make ground because he tends to get back but his last start effort behind Rockin’ Rupert in Saturday grade was impressive. MILITARY POWER is just a different animal when he steps out at Northam. Back to his best last start with an all the way 1000m win. No doubt he’ll find this tougher with an extra 1.5kg and an extra 100m but he should be in front for a long way again. EEVALINA attacks this fresh and was never far away in her last Danny Morton campaign. SO SWAY brings X-Factor with dirt form. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – MOCHA DREAM WIN RACE 7 ROCK DEE JAY is bursting to win a race and on the 7 day back-up in an open and even C1 1600 looks to get a great opportunity. Ran second behind Weeraechoux over 1650 at Belmont and then followed it up with a solid second behind Pro Latte in a C5 mile last week. Quick back-up, back in grade and maps to get every chance. DARK LOOKS similarly put the writing on the wall last start. Should be peaking third-up. IDYLLIC RULER is well weighted after the claim and is versatile. MANZOR MAGIC trialled up super. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ROCK DEE JAY WIN RACE 8 DON’T TRUST JUDAS went close last start behind Linden’s Gold in a form race that’s largely on show at Belmont in Race 9 on Wednesday. Should Red Dwarf, Looks, Stylish Lord or Singleton Park go well then it’ll look good for Judas. Has been a bit costly to punters but he looks ready to make his way through the lower grades this time in. IMPOSSIBLE DREAM has won two of her past three and maps a treat. RELIABLE QUEEN was sound last start in a tougher race than this. Suited back in grade. COVERT ROSE can sprint well fresh with no weight on her back. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – DON’T TRUST JUDAS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,5 2,4,5,6 1,2,3,6,7,9 5,7,10 Market Market
