Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on October 28, 2020October 29, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 I AM EUGENE gave us a real run for our money last start at $16 when leading and giving a big kick in the home straight. More likely to see a quote around $4 here but we’ll butter up and go again. Think he has a bit of ability and Jade McNaught can again have him right over the top of the speed. SPECIAL VIEW is building toward a win and from the draw likely box seats with the cutaway in play. FEAR THE WIND steps up sharply in trip but trialled like a horse who would appreciate ground. FLETCHER ROAD going well. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – I AM EUGENE WIN RACE 2 BLOCK OF LAND is the on top selection Wednesday at Ascot and Thursday at Northam. Regardless of which way he goes he’ll be hard to hold out. Draws a gate at Northam and this is the weaker of the two line-ups so interesting to see which way they go. He had absolutely no luck last start and if you run the race 10 times he probably wins 8 of them. Getting better and finally starting to do things right. RIDING HOOD FAME is a maiden after 21 outings but the last two have probably been her two best of her career. INSIDE VOICE arguably should have won at York when held up the entire length of the straight. HINCHINMOSE next best. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – BLOCK OF LAND WIN RACE 3 SUNDAY AT SIX trialled nicely behind Saturday plunge horse Beau Zoom and the form when last in work looks good enough to win here. At start number two was beaten 7L but behind Beffunjar, Pambella and Three Eze and from the inside draw with a cutaway should get every hope. ENTICING is knocking on the door and only gave up the chase in the final 50m last start. Can cross and lead. OCEAN CANDY promised to win a race all preparation and can sprint well fresh. RUSTY SPIRIT trialled much better this time in. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – SUNDAY AT SIX WIN RACE 4 KICK A GOAL SON was big on debut when sitting right over the top of a solid tempo in the middle stages and only gunned down late. Stays at the 1000m and much like Blackwater Bay on Wednesday could be a brilliant pick-up ride for Mitchell Pateman. From the draw has options and looks to haveability. SHEZA CHALMER has trialled well on a number of occasions and Bernie Miller does a wondeful job with his boutique team. CHOIX DE LACE only knows one way. She will jump and run. MISS LIVINIA was the target of late money on debut at a price. Keep safe. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – KICK A GOAL SON RACE 5 ISLAND MISSILE is unlikely to gain a start at Ascot on Wednesday and this looks a great race for him. At his WA debut ran very well behind Denim Pack and On Red Alert. Blinkers go on, Jarrad Noske goes on and he draws a gate to stalk the speed. PLAYING RED was luckless last start behind subsequent Belgravia Stakes winner Magical Dream. Going well and has to be close to a win. LADIES OF LONDON is back off a freshen and won a similar race last preparation. VITAL BLAST is a capable type who should be suited to C3 company. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – ISLAND MISSILE WIN RACE 6 KERMAN ROCK is absolutely beautifully placed to score. The 3 year olds are beating up on the older horses in all grades and tracks at the minute and his last two runs have been in the 3 year old Classic behind Clairvoyance, Queen Brown, Gemma’s Son and then a 3 year old Saturday behind Kissonallforcheeks, First Law, Sassy Trader and Secret Plan. Draws the inside, cutaway on offer and Alan Kennedy back on. He looks a class above. PRETTY FRIAR comes back to C1 company and with any luck goes close at her last three. MAN OF THE HOUR won well last start in maiden company as did YELVERTON. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – KERMAN ROCK WIN RACE 7 PHONEME has had two months away from the races but his last start win rates super for this. From the draw Chris Parnham can have him within striking distance and for a horse with a powerful turn of acceleration over the space of 150-200m the cutaway style of racing suits him down to the ground. TURBO POWER hasn’t seen a race of this nature for 12 months. Neville Parnham drops these older horses back in grade with great success. ON RED ALERT was a great return and is a talent. OUR IDYLL suited over further but can sprint well fresh. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – PHONEME WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,4,7,8,10 3,5 3 1,6,7 Market Market
