Scott Embry’s Thursday Geraldton Preview Posted on February 21, 2024February 22, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DEVILS I actually found the line really well last start at Ascot behind Sensessional and My Hidden Universe. He was nearly 100-1 so you always wonder whether it was just a one off outlier or whether he can reproduce but he’s found a winnable country maiden here. HOLY SPY for a fleeting moment looked like he was going to finally break through last start but somehow he’s just found one better than him again. He can win – but he’s had lots of chances to do so! BALI BELLY has enough speed to get himself across from a wide gate. Troy Turner at Geraldton – you know the story. SPEARFISH is racing well and covering some kilometres in the process! Numbers: 6 – 1 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – DEVILS I WIN RACE 2 FIRE THE GUARD should get every chance to break through in this. He has finished third to Snippy Which and Esprit Garcon, he has finished third to Sunbronzed and Safekeeper and he’s finished third to Cessation and Chop Suey. This looks the weakest race he has seen yet and he carries a career low weight after the ZJP claim. Right place, right time. THIS IS AMERICA is first-up, no trial in WA but the Glen Cortes team has been on fire this season: 13 runners for 5 winners at 38.5% strike rate and 97% POT. Elite areas. Keep safe on respect for the yard. MIFF MUFFERED MOOF has run three solid races since arriving in the region and gets a senior rider back. VIKING FOREVER had a million excuses last start. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – FIRE THE GUARD WIN RACE 3 ROCKSTAR STATUS has had two starts for new trainer Kevin Mahoney and won both of them. It’s very hard to line-up the form through those 46+ ratings races at Narrogin but going off her previous preparations with Tiarnna Robertson she’s got form that’s more than capable of winning this. Goes well fresh (placed in a 60+ at Ascot off 35 days previously) and maps to get the right run. SPIRIT MAN has been a great acquisition to the Julia Martin yard. Now deep into the campaign but should be able to get across in this. SAUVEGARDE and JUSTHANDY are both impressive last start winners with claims. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROCKSTAR STATUS WIN RACE 4 BUTTERFLYROCK is bursting to win a race. Second to Navy Sun, second to Devil Girl and second to Wojtek. There’s no Wojteck, there’s no Devil Girl, there’s no Yes Miss Jane, there’s no Navy Sun. This looks her best chance yet. RANDOM REWARDS won well two starts back and then finished off as well as anything into fourth last start. Racing with consistency now. MISSILE STORM has raced below his best this preparation. Nice set up for him to improve. HIGHBOY an improver if Brayden Gaerth can find the top and pinch a cheap section. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – BUTTERFLYROCK WIN RACE 5 QUEEN NARDI burst onto the scene earlier this preparation with dominant back to back wins at Geraldton in a maiden and a C2 beating the older horses. Since then she’s finished second to Pecos when settling a mile off them at Albany and gone around in the market in a 60+ Graduation in town at Ascot. Back to Geraldton, back to a c58+ and gets every chance from barrier 1. WOJTEK found the front last start and never looked back. He can lead and dictate terms to them again here. COLOUR ME QUICK has won two of her last three but hasn’t been seen for almost 6 weeks. ART ADMIRER is trying hard. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – QUEEN NARDI WIN RACE 6 WELL PLAYED was a brilliant winner at her first start for Albert Bowtell and then never got into the race last start when heavily commissioned in betting. Given 4 weeks to re-gather herself and is drawn to get the right run midfield with cover. Going to forgive and forget and see if she can reproduce that big turn of foot from first-up. GOLDEN FIGHTER is getting closer and closer. If they’re kicking hard into the corner and getting away from them he’ll become increasingly popular. MAGNIFICENT CARAT won well fresh in the provincial area. POP THE MOET is getting close. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – WELL PLAYED WIN RACE 7 PLATINUM SHOT won like a filly who would go through the grades in the country area. Ben & Dan Pearce again bring a team to Geraldton and it looks like Platinum Shot is the main reason that they’ve loaded up the truck. Only rises 1kg from last start and was a powerful winner. BARTIME is better than what he produced in two runs last preparation. Keep safe and watch for any sprinkle of late money for him. SAFE HUSTLE rarely runs a bad race and from the draw he’ll get every chance better than midfield. GREY MISTRESS was jumping out of the ground late last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – PLATINUM SHOT WIN RACE 8 ARABIAN RICHES made the very talented Geraldton specialist Dream To Me stretch her neck 28 days ago. Since then she’s come out and won again, beating What A Prince who more than franked that form at the last meeting. He’s an older horse who Willie Parker has rejuvenated and this looks another really good race for him. BOMBAY STYLE has to follow the 70+ programming so he’s up and down in distance regularly. Gives 110% every time he steps out. MAGIC OF ZEUS comes from the sharp strike rate yard of Kevin Mahoney. Don’t discount. MINUS LOOKS gets Troy Turner. Natural improver. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – ARABIAN RICHES WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,5 1,2,4,5,7 3 2 Market Market
