Scott Embry’s Thursday Belmont Preview Posted on December 28, 2022December 28, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MAGIC WHISTLE has always shown a level of ability (for a staying maiden). Has finished second in a C1 2100 previously at Belmont Park and most recently went to another C1 and finished third over a mile behind Wise Counsel and Expelliarmus. Back into maiden company and gets another chance. DENTED ROMANCE went awfully close last start. Drawn to get another gun run under noted staying hoop Lucy Warwick. MAKIN PROPHETS and AMMISHADDAI both come through the same race and were both on the heels of Dented Romance. MAKIN’ PROPHETS should lead again and AMMISHADDAI was first-up at 2200 that day and improves. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – MAGIC WHISTLE WIN RACE 2 ZOOROPA was scratched from Boxing Day to save for this. First-up he settled rearwards from a wide alley and did a good job to finish off and get within 3.7L of Crystal’s Dream (races Wednesday at Ascot) and subsequent maiden winner Fries With That. Positions up much closer from a more favourable alley. PRINCE I THINK has run two solid races since joining JP Taylor Racing. The way he’s been hitting for the line he’s looking for a mile. SHEER MAGNUM ran a very cheeky race on debut at big odds and backed it up last start finishing just behind Prince I Think. PLAINLY SPOKEN worked to the line alright last start. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – ZOOROPA WIN RACE 3 SPIRIT MAN has looked good at trials behind Rear Admiral and Bisector. On debut he settled last and finished off into sixth behind winners Aztec Ruler, Revitup, Deetea, Pot Shot and Enchanting Sound. Reads up well for this. CRUCIAL METAL finished a strong second behind impressive maiden winner Dirty Chai (Races Wednesday at Ascot) and can position up from the draw. STEVIE’S MAY has produced two good trials. Comes through the hot Costazita trial and then got the better of Born and Bread late. PLANET CASH has been scratched a few times recently trying to find the perfect starting point. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – SPIRIT MAN WIN RACE 4 EEE PEE CEE got caught flat footed in the breeze when The Big One went for a sprint on straightening and then couldn’t go with Gage Roads as he unleashed his run down the centre of the track. Neville Parnham takes the shades off and he can roll across from a wide gate into a commanding position over the speed. Happy to follow up with him. LET THEM ALL TALK is getting closer and closer to breaking through. Racing consistently and from an inside draw should have no excuses. FINCHY hit the line after being specked at odds last start. LUCKY’S WAY has had a lot of trials to educate and prepare her for her debut. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 11 – 12 Suggested Bet – EEE PEE CEE WIN RACE 5 BEAUTY IN ME finished fourth beaten under a length first-up down the 1000m straight in a C3. With Brayden Gaerth taking the ride handicap she drops 3kg and returns to racing round a bend. Lightly raced mare with a positive racing pattern who can take full advantage of the inside alley. Looks a nice race for her. FIRST LAW has a big weight to carry but the majority of his racing has been in higher grade than this. Usually goes well fresh. APACHE BLUE has his first start in WA for trainer/rider Mollie Clark. Nice trial. STAR SOPRANO is a jump and run type who should find the front. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – BEAUTY IN ME WIN RACE 6 PADDY’S FLYIN’ ran all the best closing sections on debut when charging home behind Art of Sabrage and Lieutenant Dunbar. Went to a maiden and got the job done at Pinjarra Scarpside and should find the long Belmont Park straight to his liking. Sits midfield with cover and winds up through his gears. SABINO ran second to Brave Venture two back which reads up particularly well after he progressed to a 60+ Graduation and got the better of Time Scale last weekend. Most recently Sabino went to a C3 1200 and finished third behind Sunny Honey and Born to Talk when going round favourite. Back into a C1 makes him the danger. STORM LORD settles up on speed. GALANCY improves off his first-up run. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – PADDY’S FLYIN’ WIN RACE 7 LADY TORNADO has drawn the outside gate at her last two. Finished off behind Sky Duke and Belle’s Fantasy, finished off behind Divine Flirt and Red Cadillac. Looks good speed in this and she should find a nice spot midfield with cover. Going well. MISS FIELD has her first start for Danny Morton’s yard. Hasn’t exactly set the world on fire after her maiden win at her WA Debut back in January 2022 but looked good in her recent trial and going through her form this is one of the weaker races she has seen in a while. Few gear changes and has versatility about her race pattern. MAGNALEE has returned to racing well and sits up over the speed. NUTWOOD an improver. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – LADY TORNADO WIN RACE 8 CASTILLO DEL LAGO is a much-maligned galloper with punters. He sets really strong tempos and seems to find races where there’s plenty of others looking for the top. This really looks his best chance in a while dropping back into a C5 and retaining the services of Chris Parnham. Expecting him to cross and find the top and from there takes running down. OUTSPOKEN LAD chased hard behind Wakan Tanka first-up and only improves as the distances increase. ELDORADO RIVER is coming through the grades impressively and can sustain a run from the back. BIRDIEAGLE gets a very similar run to where he won from two starts ago when tracking up Saffiano. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – CASTILLO DEL LAGO WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,6 2,4 1,2,7 1,2,3,5,9 Market Market
