Scott Embry’s Thursday Belmont Preview Posted on December 29, 2021December 29, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MOJO RHYTHM steps straight out to 1600m at only his second career outings and it’s hard to ignore his debut performance when hitting the line powerfully from a long way off them to get within half a length of Lady Tornado. From the barrier should be able to settle midfield with cover and if he unleashes the same turn of foot at a mile, he’ll be hard to hold out. TIGER MOVE is getting close. Placed at his last two and now really knocking on the door. BIGDAYONIT was a shade disappointing last start. Prior effort was excellent in a strong form race. STAR SUBJECT was doing her best late and through the line fresh. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – MOJO RHYTHM WIN RACE 2 VIA MONTE went close to breaking through a few times last campaign. Finished second to State of Power, second to Trix Of the Trade and then only 2.5L off The Front Bar. All that form as a 2 and early 3 year old is strong enough to be winning this. Hard to miss the recent trial effort and drawn to get an ideal run throughout. MY BABY BLUE JEAN has trialled incredibly well on a number of occasions over several preparations. Finally makes it to the races and if she can work across from an outside gate she’s a big danger. SENORITA DOROTEA ran well on debut and won’t be a maiden long. CIRCUS STAR next best. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – VIA MONTE WIN RACE 3 DEFENDING ran second to The Front Bar first-up last campaign in a 3 year old SWP. Sat in the breeze and looked the winner until the final few strides when The Front Bar zapped her. Since that day The Front Bar has won another 3 races and fellow winners My Fury, Simple Logic and Story Book make it look like a great form reference. Via Monte finished fifth in that race and the form is on show in Race 2. Kept coming in the trial and looks hard to hold out. NIGHTS MYSTERY went down narrowly down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra. Drops 2kg with the Holly Watson claim and has a set of shades on. Jump and run mission by the looks. SIRIUS STAR has shown ability at trials. GARAGE DAYS might need further. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – DEFENDING WIN RACE 4 MENS CLUB looks to have natural ability. Recent trial under Brad Rawiller was super impressive when letting loose late in the Lark Hill 950 trial. The second horse in the trial was Defending and if he is to salute in Race 3 (or even run second to Nights Mystery) it will look like strong trial form. William Pike rides and he’ll need to bring his best from a tough gate. NIIGATA can be forgiven for one below par performance. The debut effort was very encouraging. CHEDDAR BOB left astute punters licking wounds at Narrogin. $31 into $7 and beaten a nose. Harsh game. DARGIE goes round Tuesday so you’d think he’s unlikely to back-up? Numbers: 8 – 10 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – MENS CLUB WIN RACE 5 BURNYA TO SURVIVE was a very impressive maiden winner first-up. The form has already held up through Our Norman who beat Fine Romance at his next start and with Sweet Admiration and Extra Secret looking to hold a mortgage over a maiden at Pinjarra on Wednesday it looks like the form will only be further enhanced. If he reproduces, he should be hard to beat. ZAC LUVS TO FLY was excellent at his return to racing in a high rating C1. Race was run 4L faster than Class Average and he hit the line well late. HOT BLOODED is going well and should settle in a prominent position. SIOUX CITY comes from inferior form but the booking of Pike catches the attention. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BURNYA TO SURVIVE WIN RACE 6 PHANTA has all the 3 year old form that you’d want for a C5 1200 midweeker. Winner on debut over Dom To Shoot (ran third in the Kingston Town at Group 1 level). Fourth in a Fairetha behind Kallaroo, Western Empire and First Law (beaten under half). Second to She’s God To You (beating home Kaptain Kaos) and third behind Sheza Chalmer (Belmont Guineas winner) and How’s The Serenity. On race form he goes round very short in this. On his recent trial though, he would want to show a bit more. Watching the trial leaves you in two minds. Trusting Team Gangemi to have him ready. DIVINE PAIR is drawn to get a lovely run box seating and also has similarly strong 3 year old form to his name from last campaign. BLAZING BILLY is knocking on the door and rarely far away. SOLID AZZA can run a belter from time to time as she did last start. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 -5 Suggested Bet – PHANTA WIN RACE 7 NEW AMSTERDAM has been going alright this preparation and strikes the most winnable race of his campaign to date. With the claim he gets in with 58kg and that looks a winnable impost for him. Dropping out of a Saturday back into a midweeker and drawn to get a nice run midfield with cover. Should nearly be eachway the field and he’s there abouts. TAPICONIC took off around them last start and that proved the winning move. Tash Faithfull was rewarded for showing some intent and he won well. REBEL HEART was around the mark in this type of grade all last campaign. Should get the run she needs from the ideal draw. ARNO THE FOX is kept fresh deliberately by Liz Strempel. Looks like she’s finally figured him out. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – NEW AMSTERDAM EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 8,10 1,4 1,2,3,4,5 1,2,3,4,6,7,8 Market Market
