Scott Embry’s Thursday Belmont Preview Posted on February 15, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ZANZIBAR gets his chance in a weak staying maiden without any real pace or pressure. If he jumps cleanly then Holly Watson should be able to take her take and roll forward to take up the running. From there if he reproduces his run from the Pinjarra Scarpside where he started to accelerate from the 800 and got them all chasing, he should go close to simply out staying them. OCEAN AVENUE is drawn a gate to stalk the speed and keep him within striking distance throughout. Loomed last start and only blew out late. NORTHEAST EAGLE is a one paced animal. He’ll pinch one eventually. KEEP IT HUSH showed a level of staying ability last start. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – ZANZIBAR WIN RACE 2 HERE FOR CHEQUES ran into Sesswa, Malkar Pindari and Linden Lady on debut. Recent trial when over-racing in the early and middle stages was strong and from the inside gate Patrick Carbery can lead or box seat. Wide open maiden with many winning chances but he looks to have ability. JURUENA GOLD was only fair at his return. Tracked into it strongly but couldn’t sprint with them late. May be looking for further. SHE’S A MACHINE was caught deep in her trial but kept coming impressively. Drawn soft on debut. PUNTERS PILOT comes through the La Dette, Too Dardy, Sizzle Me Patrick race. Keep safe at odds. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet – HERE FOR CHEQUES EACHWAY RACE 3 POMPEY is clearly a work in progress. He was extremely wayway on debut and completely spat the dummy. Sent back to trials, trialled in blinkers and lay inwards throughout again, however, he looked pretty good in winning that trial and the second horse went to Geraldton and broke his maiden impressively. Likely to be a hit or miss type. TENACIOUS REWARD has blinkers on for the first time as well. He’s an honest customer who ran well at his first outing in over 12 months. Looks the logical danger on paper. HAYDROSS resumed without a trial over 1000m. Appreciates the extra ground and the Pontiff sticks. OLYRUE was held tight in his trial and looked to have plenty to offer. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – POMPEY WIN RACE 4 VAST ART looks a big chance at his return. On debut in a 3 year old Plate he ran into Fly Away Home, Man Crush, Saintorio and Kosta’s Crown. He then went to a maiden and finished 1.7L off Linden Lady. His trial was excellent and while he looks like he’ll get out over further than 1300m this looks a nice starting point for his preparation. YES OF COURSE trialled in great order (again). Needs to bring that trial form to race day but is drawn to get every mortal hope. PROPORTRAIT couldn’t get a run until it was over in his most recent trial. Once he saw daylight he accelerated nicely. COCOON BAY was awfully stiff not to win at his return when bolting in behind them unable to get clear. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 9 – 13 Suggested Bet – VAST ART WIN RACE 5 COVERT ROSE and LOVA SESSION look like two talented fillies who will win much better races in time. COVERT ROSE charged home from a mile off them on debut after being well supported in betting and finished second to subsequent C1 winner Fine Touch. LOVA SESSION went from an impressive debut into a C1 and finished third behind subsequent 58+ winner Starchienne and Ocean Queen. HOT RHUMBA found the front and gave a strong kick last start. Should roll to the front again. BIGSPIDER is drawn out in the carpark alongside fellow fancies Covert Rose and Lova Session. Rather him drawn out than in as a big striding type. Numbers: 14 – 15 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – COVERT ROSE WIN RACE 6 FOREVER DREAMING has raced in higher grade at all 10 starts in her life. She’s never been to a maiden, she’s never been to a C1. Has to lump 60kg but is drawn barrier 1 and she showed good gate speed in her recent Belmont trial behind Trevern. This race lacks any real speed so she should be able to hold up and use the inside gate. Great race for her. CIVVY STREET finished third in a C3 at the end of last preparation. He’s rarely far from the winner and is drawn to enjoy a soft run close to the speed. RED ORCA has Pike on and shades on. Big effort last week after being posted deep. BAKE SOME MAYBE’S is getting closer and closer. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – FOREVER DREAMING WIN RACE 7 HOLA MAREA looks poised to continue his way through the grades. He has won back to back C3 events to start his preparation and in the most recent he was really pulling away from them late. He maps to get an identical run to what he enjoyed first-up and second-up and it’s hard to look past him on current form. Racing brilliantly. ALTERNO won a C5 1300 first-up at his WA debut. Forget all of his wet track form. He trialled up well and will go round a price. FLICKA’S CHANCE is a model of consistency. He may have to roll forward from the awkward gate but he’ll give his usual effort. ELAFELLA is the X-Factor horse. On his day he’s a very hard horse to run down. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – HOLA MAREA WIN RACE 8 CANDLELIGHT SUPPER gets out to a staying trip for the first time in her preparation. The way she’s been racing recently suggests that she’s looking for ground and she drops out of a pair of solid C5 and 0MWLY 60+ efforts into a moderate and even C3 2100. She’ll get back regardless of where she’s drawn and expecting her to join the three deep train as it builds from the 800. BANDALERA MISS hasn’t won a race since the last time William Pike rode her. She’s a versatile mare who can race on speed or off speed. ZOOROPA gets some weight off his back and gets out in trip. He takes up a prominent position. TALLANGATTA similarly to Zooropa can take full advantage of his barrier and will keep coming. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – CANDLELIGHT SUPPER WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 14,15 1,2,3,4,5,7 2 1,2,5,6,8,11 Market Market
