Scott Embry’s Thursday Belmont Preview Posted on January 25, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WINNING PIA may not have beaten much in her trial but she did it in style. Was allowed to stride by Turner and skipped right away to win by almost 10L. When last in work she finished fourth to Alsephina and Born To Talk first-up in an 1100m maiden. She then finished second to Born To Talk in a 3 year old 0MWLY and six days later finished 3.5L behind Hammarmill and Honey Dew. TOO DARDY had visors applied in the second of his trials and it really seemed to sharpen him up. LA DETTE has been hard in betting in both runs this preparation. Going along alright. SIZZLE ME PATRICK was a nice quiet trial and looks to have ability. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – WINNING PIA WIN RACE 2 SUPERSESSION is one the punters will be waiting for when markets open. Could not have been more impressive on debut over 1000m when charging home through heavy traffic to finish third behind Renato and Trespassing ($18 into $5.50 Saturday when third in a 3 year old Plate). Drawn barrier 1, can settle much closer from the more favourable draw and has an extra 200m to gun them down. DODGE’EM looks like crossing and finding the fence on debut. Was allowed to roll in the trial and looked good. PURE QUALITY and Supersession met at Lark Hill trials. There wasn’t that much between them and she’s since trialled again impressively. ORCHILLA next. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 10 – 7 Suggested Bet – SUPERSESSION WIN RACE 3 WEST COAST WARRIOR stepped from a maiden into a 3 year old 0MWLY 1650m at his most recent outing. He carried 59kg, worked around to the breeze and then was left horribly flat footed when talented filly Crystal’s Dream went for a sprint at the 600. Back to maiden company, down 2kg, back 200m and drawn to get a nice run midfield with cover. Prior second to Tallangatta reads up well now. HE’S ARCHIE tracked into it nicely last start and didn’t have a whole lot of room to move at stages. Think the three deep line will build and that suits him. COVERT ROSE is also likely to be in a similar position. Looks like a filly who will get out over ground. FINE TOUCH improved sharply last start and kept coming to the line. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 14 – 9 Suggested Bet – WEST COAST WARRIOR WIN RACE 4 MAGNALEE has had a great preparation dating back to her first-up run in October. She’s had 7 starts, won twice and placed on another four occasions. Wary that she won last start on a heavily leader bias Pinjarra Scarpside surface but she looks to have found another very winnable race and she’s versatile. Not a deep race and she’s an inform filly from an in form stable. MEN’S CLUB parked up outside of My Baby Blue Jean first-up without a trial and only blew out late. Should come on quickly. PRINCE AMONGST MEN looks quick from his Eastern States replays and attacks this fresh. APACHE BLUE was good fresh. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – MAGNALEE WIN RACE 5 HEAPS OF MOOLAH should have no worries crossing these and finding the front. From there he only carries 54.5kg after the claim for Victoria Corver and will have a 3.5kg weight pull on Bandalera Miss and a 5kg weight pull on Blue Card in running and they will both need to concede him a head start. Proven on the back-up, takes luck out of his racing and has hit form again. Right place, right time. BANDALERA MISS hasn’t won a race since the last time William Pike rode her. She’s bursting to win one and the Wizard just needs to find a spot in running for her. BLUE CARD is attacking the line hard and would have been a good thing beat last start if he didn’t get clear when he did. PRIVATE SCENE looks just about ready. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – HEAPS OF MOOLAH WIN RACE 6 LUKE’S PIERRO is racing like he wants further and further. Gets out to the staying trip for the first time in the campaign and will get back in his races regardless of where he’s drawn in the line. The fact David Harrison has elected to stick with the senior and carry 60kg is an indication that he’s ready to win. DJANGO DREAM had his first start for Summer Dickson and added his name to the ever growing list of tried horses that she’s worked her magic on (add Differentiator Saturday to that list too). Blinkers back on, senior rider back on and strikes a race without too much tempo. If he gets across, he’s dangerous. MASARU never got a real crack at them last start. Will always need luck with her pattern but she’s going well. UNIVERSAL SPIRIT seemed to relish the extra trip last start. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 10 – 12 Suggested Bet – LUKE’S PIERRO WIN RACE 7 YARRALEA drops out of 3 year old 0MWLY company into a 1600m C1 and drops 1kg in weight. She’s drawn the middle of the line and ideally lands midfield with cover and from there she should be contesting the finish. Last time she was in a C1 was October 2022 when beaten a nose by Lord Gannicus. Since then she’s contested a Group 3, a Listed event, a 3 year old Plate and 3x 3 year old 0MWLY. Nice race for her. BELLE JOURNEE is a filly on the rise. Gives every indication the further she goes the better she’ll get and the booking of William Pike is the cherry on top. Hard to hold out. SHEER MAGNUM will look to cross and on face value it seems as though Laqdar Ramoly has elected to ride her over Belle Journee. PASARAN is back to somewhere near his best. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet – YARRALEA WIN RACE 8 HENRY THE AVIATOR looks to have found a very suitable race on paper. Last start over 1200m he made really good late ground and that race was run 3.5L faster than average. Out of that race Born To Talk backed up off 7 days and was plunged in betting $11 into $4.60 when winning in style. Looks the right form race, looks the right trip for him and looks like he’ll sneak into it along the fence. With clear galloping room he’s very hard to hold out. BE OPTIMISTIC likely settles rearwards but her trial was exciting. Showed upside when last in work as a filly. THOROGOOD was the beneficiary of a gun tactical ride from Pike last start. THE ADMIRAL has blinkers added. This is much tougher than last start. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – HENRY THE AVIATOR WIN RACE 9 IT’S ALL A RUMOUR comes out of a winner producing 3 year old 1400m back into a C1 1300. Feels Playful, Saloon Bar, Defiant Diorite. It’s a great form reference for an open and even C1 and a senior rider jumps aboard as well. Think he’s much better suited at Belmont compared to Ascot and this should be eachway the field. KELVINATER trialled particularly well and then was run off his legs first-up at 1100m on a Saturday. Needs a lot of luck from the outside draw. SELBY PARK will march forward into a commanding position and won well at Pinjarra on the Scarpside. VONSNIP let rip with a big turn of foot to score last start. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 13 Suggested Bet – IT’S ALL A RUMOUR EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,5,10 6,8,9 7 1,2,5,6,7,8,10,11,13 Market Market
