Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 29, 2025May 30, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BRAZILIAN BELLE was scratched from Roebourne last weekend for a future nomination and the stablemate Matsoka was able to get the job done – well played Leigh Murray. Considering she beat home Matsoka at the opening meeting at Port Hedland she becomes the one to beat. SO FAB will have plenty of admirers and considering how short she opened at Broome last weekend she’ll likely go up fav. 2 year old form reads up well but was very green and raw. LIVE LIKE KINGS was okay at Collie last year. RICCO DORO tries hard. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – BRAZILIAN BELLE WIN RACE 2 VERNACULAR won at the opening meeting at Port Hedland by 3L and then simply wasn’t the same mare last week at Roebourne. Off the 7 day back-up, heading back to Port Hedland – both big positives. IMA WILD GIRL won back to back races at Northam last prep before heading to Leonora, Leinster and Laverton when racing well enough in the Cups Series to suggest she’ll be hard to beat here. ONE ABOVE ALL was poor at the opening meeting – he’s better than that. KENTUCKY DREAM went well behind Chavorio but in a woefully slow race. Query that form. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – VERNACULAR WIN RACE 3 MERCIAN HYMN had his first start on the dirt for Tom Pike and he produced a strong second behind all the way winner Mega Reward. It was really hard (near impossible) to make ground at Roebourne last Sunday and he will only get better as they can step him out over further. Nice race for him. ZADAR ROCK was huge first-up at Port Hedland first-up last campaign and then won second-up at 1600m. Love the fact they’ve trialled him twice and gone straight to the mile first-up. STRIKING FELLA is in form and showed at Pingrup and Dongara that he’ll be a nice NW horse. BLAZING TYCOON is through the Royalzel race. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MERCIAN HYMN WIN RACE 4 WARBY RANGES placed to Vernacular at Port Hedland first-up and then won by panels last weekend at Roebourne when given a beautiful ride by Sharni Webster who enjoyed a day out in the saddle. 7 days later he finds another winnable race, albeit is awkwardly back in trip. SHINBONER mis-strode a few times at the opening meeting. Forgive and forget. SHE IS GOD broke her maiden well and enjoyed the dirt. FINE LINE is a real watch at her first start on the dirt. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – WARBY RANGES WIN RACE 5 BORDER CONTROL had his first start on the dirt and sat rearwards before coming away for an impressive win. Didn’t look to love the dirt but then picked up brilliantly on the grass over the concluding stages. Concedes huge weight swings to key rivals with the 3kg claimer to a senior but he was very good. BLAZING PASSION and HOW PRETTY ran second and third respectively behind him in that event. Both will only improve for the experience. OUR KIWI PRINCESS was back to somewhere near her best last weekend. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – BORDER CONTROL WIN RACE 6 ROYALZEL produced the highest rating win of the day at the Opening Meeting and surprise, surprise the runner-up (Mega Reward) was well supported at Roebourne last weekend and got the chocolates. Would have preferred him getting out to 1400 rather than back to 1200m but expect that Rosie Mahony will fire him out to breeze outside the stablemate. SHOOTING KONTIKI is quick and will probably lead him early but is still building. GUARD THE SAFE is an known X-Factor. TALKABOUTYOU just wants a touch further but is going really well. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – ROYALZEL WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,4,6 1,3 2,4,6 1 Market Market
