Scott Embry’s Sunday Northam Preview Posted on April 30, 2021April 30, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ROMMEL’S COMMAND looks a big chance of getting punters off to a flyer in the opening meeting at Northam as the first horse to use the inside pad. Ran third behind Written Exceed and Northern Ruler first-up at 1100m and the way he raced suggested he was simply looking for further. Chris Parnham can take him to the front, control the tempo and he should go close to leading from start to finish. ROCH LEGACY ran third in a lowly Geraldton maiden but in review was one of the better runs at the meeting. TIGER MOVE ran well first-up for the new yard. JIGGY ON THREE gets some weight relief with Kate Southam riding. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – ROMMEL’S COMMAND WIN RACE 2 PERFECT GEM should be too classy for fairly well exposed maiden opposition. Was the target of strong backing on debut when finishing second behind More Snitzel and then wasn’t disgraced in two maiden after that. Typically these Cerise and White horses come back bigger and better in their second preparation and this is not a strong race. TRULY RELIABLE ran well last start on a rain affected track in a strong form reference race. KEEP IT HUSH is honest and consistent. Does no work from the draw and an excellent use of Holly Watson’s luxurious claim. BODELLA showed glimpses at trials. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet – PERFECT GEM WIN RACE 3 CROSSED SWORDS was first-up for over 480 days when resuming and ran extremely well. Massive drifter in the market and was set a task when sitting in the breeze and attacking the leader throughout. Overall time 2L faster than maiden average so should hold up as a form reference here and only improves for the outing. GEE FORCE has put together two strong runs since resuming. BOYOHBOY WOWEE has returned to racing well. Improving type. BUCKEYE BULLET has been given every hope at Geraldton. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – CROSSED SWORDS WIN RACE 4 SPIRITED SESSION ran three consecutive second placings when last in work behind Fish Hook (beating Billy Ray), Ghost Who Walks (beating Miss Livinia) and Speed Dream (beating English Heritage). Resumed 18 days ago in a 3yo 0MWLY race won by Just a Pinch with Billy Ray second who races Saturday and Born Spicy third who won last Sunday at Pinjarra. Gear comes off, we jump on. PINK CARATS went well at trials and was doing his best work late. SO BIRIKKINO should jump and lead them up. Has paddled late in his trials. OLD TIMES an improver drawn the inside with the senior on. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – SPIRITED SESSION WIN RACE 5 EMPIRE REIGN was plunged in betting first-up and got absolutely no luck in a strong C1. Time Scale, Material Witness and Forest War all have claims at being Saturday type 3 year olds and Empire Reign stays in C1 company and hopefully enjoys a more favourable run in transit. No guarantee but if Madi Derrick can get across safely following out the speedy Fish Hook he should go close. VERDANDI comes from a hot form reference race and is drawn inside with shades on. FISH HOOK is a noted speedster. 1100m might be on her limit. RED INFERNO resumed in a far tougher race than this first-up and wasn’t disgraced. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – EMPIRE REIGN WIN RACE 6 STARLIFT did it tough last start in a race which has definitely held up as a form reference. Image Keeper has won a 58+ since and goes round favourite in the Westspeed Platinum Final on Saturday and last weekend She’s God To You won a 3 year old handicap in a strong line-up. Just needs an ounce of luck from a sticky gate. SAID NO ONE EVER was a much better run than it looks first-up in Geraldton and Brad Rawiller takes over riding duties. ENGLISH HERITAGE won well last start and War Warrior made the form look good on Wednesday. NOBLE SPIRIT was a big improver at his first start for Darryn Pateman. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – STARLIFT WIN RACE 7 DEPUTANO has blinkers added for the first time in her life coming out of a strong 1450m trial victory. Has 60kg to lump and runs into an impressive last start winning filly in Speedbird but her overall form is excellent for this. A two-time C3 winner already, a proven weight carrier and a proven fresh mare. Ticks a lot of boxes. SPEEDBIRD made a mess of them at Geraldton last start. Relished the speed going on. ARTIE’S JEWELS is getting better and better into the preparation. STELLA ANNE should land a lovely position. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – DEPUTANO WIN RACE 8 FLIRTINI looks the one in the Northam Mazda Stakes. Winner of a Prince of Wales, Colonel Reeves and a Miss Andretti Stakes in her last two seasons and has run all the best splits in consecutive Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes. Trialled like a bomb, drawn a gate to lob a lovely midfield position and has William Pike on her back. Takes beating. VALOUR ROAD is the second of the Simon Miller runners attacking this feature and it’s very hard to knock anything he did last preparation, including tramping deep throughout to win a Price of Wales. No shades in his recent trial which was still strong. FREE TRADE should hold a prominent position. ROCK MAGIC is a star and no matter where he lobs in the run he’ll loom ominously turning for home. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – FLIRTINI WIN RACE 9 FAIR JOY is more than capable of doing it at both ends in his races. When you go through his last three victories they have all been in high pressure, high speed races (2L faster than average, 5L faster than average and 3L faster than average). Boy Hill knows him well and he can lead them up running. SUPER EX beat him home two starts ago and 4kg claiming apprentice Tyla Becker is replaced with Brad Rawiller. Going well for LK Fernie & The Wife. GOKU is drawn awkwardly but goes well fresh. TIFF HAS SPOKEN always rates well in this grade but has been struggling to clear it. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – FAIR JOY WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,5,7 1,3 1,7 1,2,4,5,7,9 Market Market The Black Hearts are WA’s team in The Racing League – the world’s first horse racing league.
