Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on September 8, 2023September 8, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SAFE HUSTLE was scratched from a maiden at Northam on Thursday to save for this. He probably has to breeze outside of Twist Of Gold but Laqdar Ramoly rides Kalgoolie well and the Gold Citation/Blue Lagoon/Tycoon Harry/Bondi Bubbles/Platinum Shot race should be great form for the country. TWIST OF GOLD is quick and with shades going on and only 53.5kg will be on a jump and run mission. MON CADEAU has his first start in WA for Brett Drury. Placed on three occasions with his previous stable when settling rearward and sustaining a run. Fair few big hitting names in the ownership – watch the market. SET FOR STARDOM was an abject failure last start. The previous two runs were excellent without luck. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SAFE HUSTLE WIN RACE 2 MYSTERY BULLET was disappointing at Kalgoorlie on 18 August when breezing and coming under pressure before straightening as a beaten favourite. Love the way he attacked the line last start behind High Pressure and now from a better barrier the senior rider goes on. Weak maiden this. NO PLASTIC was a great run behind High Pressure at 100-1 last start. If he reproduces, he’s a chance. SPAGHETTI had his first start for Josh Brown 7 weeks ago and wasn’t disgraced in a race dominated on speed. ELUSIVE DREAM has been ridden on speed his last two but has barrier 11 of 11 to contend with here. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – MYSTERY BULLET WIN RACE 3 SHOOT UR SHOT drops out of the Tatts Cup when finishing third behind Rocky Path back into a 58+. Only four starts ago he won a 61+ 1760 beating an in form Dawn Enigma. Should get a gun run from barrier 4 and this looks very winnable for him. Madi Derrick has no claim in the country but she’s been riding plenty of winners since returning to WA. PASSION PRINCE ran a strong second to Abbou two starts back and then lead them running in the Tatts Cup. DANCE OF THUNDER has put in two good runs since arriving in the State and now has William Pike going on. Ready to win. RIGHTFUL HEIR ran into Californication last start who will go round favourite in race at Belmont on Saturday. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – SHOOT UR SHOT WIN RACE 4 MY BOY EDDY gets one more chance purely and simply because of the booking of William Pike. He has promised a lot over the years but been unable to really build up any sort of consistency/winning record that his ability level would justify. Back to back second placings since joining MR Peter Fernie and now that Pike goes on he gets One. Last. Chance. DEEL RED lead them a merry dance last start beating Laughing Buddha. Comes back to 1600 from 2100 but will roll. VINYL has Michael Poy going back on who scored an impressive win aboard the mare two back. FRANKIE BLUE EYES also has the Californication form which could be franked in town on Saturday. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – MY BOY EDDY WIN RACE 5 HOLE IN ONE finds another race where he’ll get the run he needs. CJP rides him well and he has form all in and amongst the main fancies in this race. Has had a great preparation and rarely runs a bad race. KICK A GOAL SON can stride forward (like he did when second to Galaxy Affair in a 70+ in July) or sit off them and make a run (like he did when second to Honest Legend 7 days later). TOWN HALL has been a ripper ever since joining the astute yard of John Arthur Mason. Can not fault his last 6 and won with authority last start. LOVE DRUNK BABY should be in front for a long way with 57kg on his back. Great use of the ZJP claim. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – HOLE IN ONE WIN RACE 6 HIDDEN RUBY put the writing on the wall last start. She drew barrier 8 of 12 with the 60kg and went right back to almost last before charging home into second behind Safe Secret. Drawn that same identical gate here but there looks to be the opportunity to come out underneath of The Big One (drawn 14) and lob a position. With Princess Chunk drawn off the track as well it looks a great race for her. PRINCESS CHUNK was only beaten 1L last start off a freshen but probably wasn’t at her brilliant best. Winkers go on and so does Pike. CAPTAIN ROGERS is a model of consistency. SATURDAY SINNER an improver. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – HIDDEN RUBY WIN RACE 7 MEN’S CLUB clearly doesn’t like being hit with the whip. He seems to travel brilliantly into his races and then as soon as the rider starts to get desperate he just paddles. William Pike is the kind of rider who should suit him perfectly. He could probably leave the whip in the jockey’s room and just push him out hands and heels and hopefully he’ll do just enough to scramble home over the 1300. BIRD’S THE WORD and GALAXY AFFAIR have been excellent on the Goldfields all season. There’s not much between them and they’re both legitimate dangers. COUNTER DRIVE has turned back the clock and is flying. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – MEN’S CLUB WIN RACE 8 CRESCENT CITY is a much-maligned galloper within WA punting circles. Many punters have trust issues and scars with him whereas the entire bookies ring have pool rooms named in his honour. All jokes aside he’s been a ripper for owners winning over $350,000 and he’s the perfect kind of Kalgoorlie Cups type horse. Much more fun to be had and personally think between 1600 and 1800 is his best trip. The time is now. Prayers. ROCKY PATH has come of age and is clearly thriving on the Goldfields. Savaging the line. GROUND BRAKER can roll to the top and take luck out of the equation. WESTRIVER MIRACLE can slide forward to park on speed. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – CRESCENT CITY WIN RACE 9 MAIL was the target of some seriously astute money at his second start at the KBRC. He was backed into favourite from double figures and he let rip with a great run to gun down Got Lucky right on the post. If he’s continually improving in the region then he should be hard to beat again. ONEMOREFORLEO has really turned a corner. Won a C2 1200 under Cassey Martinan three starts back at 20-1 and since then has finished second to No Whispering and second to Captain Rogers. Racing with great consistency and from the draw he should get every chance. GOT LUCKY almost got home last start but couldn’t hold out the flooding run of Mail. Heartbreak stuff for his loyal following. TWELVE BELLS is yet to reproduce the debut run in WA. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – MAIL WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,4,8 1,2,5,6,11 1 1,2,4,7,12 Market Market
