Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview

RACE 1

RED HOT GOODS should be far too good for these. Hasn’t quite put it all together at the races so far but all of his trials have been highly impressive. Should bounce straight on the front here and over 1100m prove too sharp and too classy. His first-up run behind Just Go, Aiyza and Co is great form for this. GINGER’S SECRET was well thought of in all three runs for Adam Durrant. Went around favourite on debut behind My Boy Chris at Pinjarra and was only beaten 2L. Should measure up here for the new yard. MR KOHANA joins the stables of Rod Brown who looks to have him going well. The recent trial at Kalgoorlie behind talented galloper Pedal Power was very nice. HIDDEN RUBY an unknown first-up, no trial.

Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 6

Suggested Bet – RED HOT GOODS WIN

RACE 2

PICK AND PAY was well found late in betting at the most recent Kalgoorlie meeting and finished off hard behind Dawn Amnesty. Better suited at 1400 and new trainer Rickie Brown makes a gear change and opts for a senior rider. Should park up over the speed from a favourable gate and go close. MULTINOVA MAN looks really one paced. The step to 1400 helps, the drop from a metro maiden (behind a potential star in Protégé) helps and barrier 1 helps. Just likely to go round short. GOT LUCKY has been frustrating all preparation. Possibly Shaun O’Donnell can find a length. DURATIME has struck two Heavy tracks so far. Improver.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 9

Suggested Bet – PICK AND PAY WIN

Same Race Multi – Pick & Pay (Top 3) + Multinova Man (Top 3)

RACE 3

HERRON SAND (Sandy) has been in grand form all preparation. Big winner five starts ago, big winner two starts ago and most recently finished third in the Kambalda Cup behind Long Weekend who is putting on galloping exhibitions meeting after meeting at the KBRC. Great placement and looks like getting a gun run. BLAZING TYCOON has been there abouts all preparation. He rarely runs a bad race but his racing pattern makes him a tough horse to follow with confidence. PRINCE OF PROMISES is going well. This is tougher but he sits up over the speed. LOVE DRUNK BABY is going well enough. Just drawn a bit sticky.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 9

Suggested Bet – HERRON SAND WIN

RACE 4

DALMOUSIE was a big run at her first start for the strike rate yard of Nicholas Thomas. Finished second to Prince of Promises (subsequent winner) and beat home Total Lockdown and First Moment who both went well at their next outings. Senior rider on, down in the weights and drawn to get a lovely run into it. Nice race for her. JAKESTAR won a 70+ three starts ago beating Yoyo’s. Not an easy ride for the apprentice but well placed. CHOIX DE LACE has returned to racing well and will always be a chance sitting up over the speed. BALLADEER is proven in far stronger races than this. May have to work forward and park up outside the lead.

Numbers: 10 – 2 – 9 – 3

Suggested Bet – DALHOUSIE WIN

RACE 5

WISE WORDS has been there abouts all preparation in the metro and provincial area in Perth. Third to Astro Warrior (now a 58+ winner), fifth to Regal Magic (favourite in a 66+ on Saturday) and fifth to Defending most recently. Well placed into a country C2. PEDAL POWER burst onto the scene in Kalgoorlie with two big wins. Broke maiden status with a 1.7L win and then backed it up in a C1 with 2kg more and won by almost 2L beating home Tahitian Red who went out and made the form look excellent at her next outings. EEVALINA was strong in betting (shock) first-up for Nick Caropellotti. Got absolutely no luck and was brave to finish only 2L off them. FACTORY MADE simply didn’t handle the step to 1400 last start. Back in trip suits.

Numbers: 4 – 1 – 10 – 6

Suggested Bet – WISE WORDS WIN

RACE 6

VANCOUVER LAD was huge two starts ago behind Talk It Up and then was a tough watch and an even tougher ride for Keshaw Dhurun last start behind Balderdash. Was caught off the track throughout and nothing at all went right. Senior rider on, expecting him to go close in this. SKIPPING DIGITS has been a shade disappointing this preparation. Didn’t handle the Soft7 first-up and then travelled into it second-up but didn’t have a lot of room to build momentum. O’LARA’S PRINCE can reel off a sharp L600 on his day. POPCORN TENDER A watch coming out of Junction.

Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 8

Suggested Bet – VANCOUVER LAD WIN

RACE 7

LONG WEEKEND “continues to get plunged in betting and continues to win”. Those were the preview words on 14 August when contesting the Kambalda Cup. It was a copy and paste job for The Goldrush on 21 August and see no reason why we wouldn’t be hitting Ctrl C + Ctrl V here. 59kg and barrier 13 make things far more interesting but he is destroying them at the moment. HILTON looks the danger. Has been in great form since arriving on the Goldfields and gets 4.5kg, plus CJP on Long Weekend from their most recent encounter 42 days ago. DOUBLE SPICE goes really well fresh and can work forward into a commanding position. YOYO’S is the kind of mare who needs to draw soft.

Numbers: 5 – 10 – 4 – 11

Suggested Bet – LONG WEEKEND WIN

RACE 8

SLUICE BOX looks really well suited in the 2022 Coolgardie Cup. Comes into it fresh 50 days between runs, reunites with Shaun McGruddy who seems to ride him better than anyone else and maps a treat sitting behind the speed. If Savage One is suspect late at 1760m then he’ll be charging at him in the concluding stages. SAVAGE ONE looks like rolling straight to the top, controlling the tempo and kicking into the corner. Hard to run down and likely to be very popular in betting. NO APOLOGY will need a big ride from a tricky gate. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN ran his best race in 12 months last start.

Numbers: 6 – 5 – 7 – 1

Suggested Bet – SLUICE BOX WIN

RACE 9

FEUDING has been flying since heading to Kalgoorlie. Has been running into Seeable his last few who is a very good measuring stick for this 58+ grade. If Seeable was in this race he would be favourite. Arguably his biggest run was when ridden cold so the wide gate may be a blessing in disguise. MAKFLY is drawn on Charles Street but did finish third to Run D’Affair Run and General Grant last start at Pinjarra. MEET JOE BLACK is always hard to beat in 58+ Grade. The barrier doesn’t help. BALDERDASH was given a 12/10 last start by Tash Faithfull.

Numbers: 10 – 6 – 1 – 4

Suggested Bet – FEUDING WIN
