Scott Embry’s Saturday Roebourne Preview Posted on July 22, 2022July 23, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SECOND CHOICE has finished in the money at three of four runs in Roebourne and the best of those runs was over 1100m so the drop back in trip shouldn’t concern. Shades go on, drawn barrier 1 and recently there’s been plenty of horses cutting the corner and going well. LUNA NOBEL was crunched late in betting at Carnarvon last Sunday and ran quite well at her first dirt outing. TOWNERS FLYER ran second to Commands Respect narrowly beating home the stablemate Second Choice last start. Not much between them. TUFFATTHETOFF joins Aaron Pateman and these Roebourne maidens are weaker than the Broome ones. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SECOND CHOICE WIN RACE 2 CHENGDU is going great guns for Michael Ball (whose yard is on fire) and Peta Edwards is riding him with great confidence. Getting up in the weights now but he’s racing in excellent form and while they’re cutting at each other early he’ll be sneaking up in behind them ready to pounce. SHINJU went close to spoiling the Shackleton Party last start in 68+ grade. Back into a 56+ for the first time in a long while and looks ready to win another race. COPPING POINTS should improve for the dirt experience. KING OF PLANETS is proving a frustrating follow. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – CHENGDU WIN RACE 3 WHO’S YOUR MAMA won a maiden at Carnarvon at any old odds first start on the dirt and then stepped out to 1400m and was all at sea. Tom Pike dropped her straight back to the flying 1000 and she went very close to knocking off Passport. Passport came out in a C3 and won at his next start with 61.5kg and so the form reads up well. Has to replicate at Roebourne but should go close. I’M BELEIVABLE won a maiden, went to a 56+ and then a C3, now is back into his right grade. No surprise to see him go very well. SPICY DANCER ran well in a 56+ behind Human Nature at Carnarvon last Sunday. SNIPPY MAREE can bounce back if she jumps and gets clear. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – WHO’S YOUR MAMA WIN RACE 4 SUNDAY AT SIX looks really well placed to score again. Finished second to Ginger Senorita in a 56+ 1400m event two starts ago and then last start was far too strong in a C3 1200 when winning by almost 4L. Stays in the same C3 grade, steps back up to 1400m and should prove hard to beat. TOP NOTCH SCOTCH is only a last start maiden winner but she gets in with no weight. MISS BRIGHTON finished second to Sunday At Six last start and with a weight swing and Lisa Staples can close the gap. CALLING CARD won well last start. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – SUNDAY AT SIX WIN RACE 5 WELD has got me many a time but he’s clearly going well. Crunched in betting last start at Carnarvon and things didn’t quite go right for him. Last time he was at Roebourne he won a 56+ and finished third in the Harding Cup. Nice race for him. ELAFELLA has his first start on the dirt. He’s a free rolling, front running type of animal who can really break fields open. If he jumps (can be a bit scratchy away because he’s so enormous) he can definitely win at his dirt debut. TEST OF STRENGTH won back to back races before being backed into favourite in the Marble Bar Cup. Keep very safe. GINGER SENORITA has now found her feet on the dirt. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – WELD WIN RACE 6 BLOCK OF LAND is charging his way through the grades. Won a C3 by 3.5L and then a 56+ by 2L. Now gets out to 1800m and rises to 60kg but still looks the horse to beat. He’s racing in career best form and he can sustain a run around them to march into a forward position. BILLY JACK is yet to really march along in any of his races. Get the feeling he’s still building into his preparation and the best is yet to come. BOLD VICTORY was a much better run than it reads on paper last start. UNBREAKABLE did win a 58+ at Broome and placed in the Newman Cup last season. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – BLOCK OF LAND WIN RACE 7 APPARITION is proving himself a dirt specialist at the moment. He was a 2L winner of the Marble Bar Cup at 25-1 and then showed it was no fluke winning the XXXX Gold Pilbara Handicap by 2.5L when given a peach of ride by Cassey Martinan. The way he’s going it’s hard to see him not being right there again the $60,000 Roebourne Cup. CROSSARO gets out to 2200m. That’s his chance of turning the tables. He’s an out and out stayer. BAMBUN BOY is tested out to the staying trip but he’s going well. OMBUDSMAN brings the Broome dirt form. Don’t mind the move to send him across to Aaron Pateman. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet – APPARITION WIN RACE 8 SHACKLETON has been an excellent addition to the Roebourne team of Aaron Pateman this season and looks to win his third straight race. He’s a proven weight carrier, he’s handling the Roebourne style of racing and Jess Gray should have him in a nice position turning for home. COUNTER DRIVE makes his way up to Roebourne. Finished a mile off them in the Minilya Sprint but he is importantly two from two at Roebourne (including beating Shackleton and Sixpence Spent. SIXPENCE SPENT is always capable of running big races in these 68+ graded affairs. ZEEWIJK is up sharply in grade but gets some weight relief. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – SHACKLETON WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,4,6 1,7 2,6 1,2,4 Market Market
