Scott Embry’s Saturday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 9, 2024May 9, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 REGINALD gives Timothy Pike a great chance to take an early lead over Tom Pike in the battle of Port Hedland in the opening event of the season. At his WA debut he ran a fast finishing third behind Ballabek at Ascot and then four starts later finished second to Autumn Rebel. Great grass form and hopefully it translates to the dirt. CAPE PRIDE has race fitness on his side vs most of his rivals and has finished in the money at four of five runs at the track. KENTUCKY BLUE joins the yard of Kevin Mahony who has a ridiculously good strike rate. Keep very safe. CHAVORIO returns to the NW where she did her best work last season. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – REGINALD WIN RACE 2 DENZOE should be a more than handy dirt mare. She’ll roll along at the front of the field, she’ll stay out of trouble and she’ll give a kick on straightening. Malcolm McKenzie has her in good form and if she reproduces her last two runs at Geraldton she should be hard to run down. Fit, firing and a great ride for John Kissick. AL MAGICO has 61.5kg to lump but this is a suitable assignment for him. Could take a run or two to reach full fitness. ROCKING THE MERC and GRECE LIGHTNING are both capable of making their way through the Port Hedland lower grades. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – DENZOE WIN RACE 3 VIKING FOREVER comes through a maiden behind Make Mine Super (multiple winner since), Speedy Nova (winner since) and Powerpop (winner since). It’s the obvious form reference race, he’s got speed to use from the favourable alley and he has race fitness on his side. Plenty to like about his chances of leading and winning. SHOOTING KONTIKI joins the stables of Tom Pike and in theory should be a more than capable dirt type. Those two could pair off and control the race. GALATHILION might need a bit further but has shown glimpses. PUSHOVER next best. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – VIKING FOREVER WIN RACE 4 WAR WARRIOR resumed in a 60+ Graduation at Ascot and wasn’t disgraced behind Chollima / Rockin’ Rupert / Becalotti. That is a nice fitness run and this is great use of the Chanel Cooper 3kg claim. 54.5kg and takes beating as a track/distance specialist. AMELIA’S BELIEF is a jump and run type of galloper who is proven on all the NW circuit tracks. First-up, no trial but should be able to kick through along the inside and take up a prominent position throughout. MAGIC OF ZEUS is always a treat in these races. HEZAZEB wants a bit further than the 1200m sprint trip. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – WAR WARRIOR WIN RACE 5 ARCHER COUNTY is capable of sustaining a front running gallop so while 1200m is on the short side for him (prefer 1400 – 1600) he still commands respect. Thinking he can take his time to work across the face of the field and in an even race without any standouts is presented with an ideal opportunity to win at his first outing for Kevin Mahony. DE LOVELY LAD wasn’t bad in his first few runs in WA. PRINCESSA ANJA finally broke through last start at Geraldton. DEEP POINT has shown ability from time to time. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ARCHER COUNTY WIN RACE 6 OUR KIWI PRINCESS has had two runs back this preparation when 5.5L off Boots Like Bruce on a Saturday and then 4L off Forest War in a C5 at Pinjarra. They’re really nice fitness building runs and she now drops back into a 56+ at Port Hedland – a track where she’s had four starts and won twice. Nice race for her. FIRST CONTACT has hit form and is enjoying life and going well for her new trainer. Kind of mare who could win a few this season up North. WAKAN TANKA has his first start for Tom Pike. Has been competitive in lower grade Saturday metro races across his career. YARDSTICK wasn’t disgraced behind Barney’s World at his first start in the State. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – OUR KIWI PRINCESS WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3 2,3,4 1,2,3,4,5,7,8 1,2 Market Market
