Scott Embry’s Saturday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 13, 2021May 13, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ICONIC SKILL broke his maiden at Pingrup at his first run back and then improved ten fold when finding himself in the strongest C1 of recent times when running third behind Image Keeper and She’s God To You. Image Keeper went on to win a 58+ and She’s God To You a 3yo 62+. MISS CIRCLEWORK goes well fresh (won off 79 days at Collie) and if she’s primed for this is the clear testing material. That pair might get away from the rest. PHANDIERI is quick. MISTINGUETTE looking for further. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – ICONIC SKILL WIN & 1-2 EXACTA RACE 2 MISS HARLEY QUINN has been a grand old race mare. Hasn’t won a race for a while but this looks a great opportunity, especially with the claim for Jess Gray. From the inside draw she can have her parked right over the top of the speed and if she runs to her third behind Boyish and Greco at Bunbury at the end of her previous campaign she goes very close. DESIGNATED DRINKER ran very well at the opening meeting at Carnarvon. Michael Ball travels his horses well and he’s sure to be in the finish. FRIAR’S GIFT is the first of the travelling Brian Rogers runners and is a classy type for Port Hedland. TRIPLE EVENT another winning chance in a wide open race. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – MISS HARLEY QUINN WIN RACE 3 SHIRLS DREAM finds another new home in the care of Chris Gilbert. Chris’ outer country team are always hard to beat and this looks a handy maiden acquisition. Most importantly is that Shirls Dream has speed. Sat outside the leader in his last two runs at Bunbury and while he was beaten off by margins it’s a must-have trait for these Port Hedland maidens. Should be in front for a long way. MUMSTHEONE has promised to win a maiden for a long while. The fact he’s left Darryn Pateman before the Broome season might be an indication that the elusive maiden is still a way off. PRIZE PENNIES improved sharply at her Michael Ball debut. No reason why she can’t break through. LET ME PASS is a 7 year old but has shown glimpses. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – SHIRLS DREAM WIN RACE 4 NANGA PARBAT is an 8 year old who hasn’t been seen at the races for 430 days so naturally treading with great caution but the recent trial behind Olga Louisa and I’m Eugene wasn’t bad at all. Going back only two starts ago (Feb 2020) finished within 4L of Long Beach and Lipstick Flickers in town. ANVIL GREEN is a NW specialist and while he is now rising 11 he’s still got a turn of foot. BIG CAROLINE will be on the slow build to the 2021 Port Hedland Cup (and others I’m sure). Nice mare for the region. MYBAK was disappointing at Carnarvon. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – NANGA PARBAT WIN RACE 5 SIXPENCE SPENT looks well suited to this grade and style of racing. Won a 52+ at York when parked over the speed with 60kg and since then has contested a lot of C5 and 60+ races which are beyond him these days. Effort two starts ago behind Stable Secret, My Demi and Wine Night is definitely strong enough to be winning this. ROSE THEIF can be a read handful but the best of her is definitely good enough to be winning a few up North. AFLICA’S GIRL similarly is a handy acquisition for Brett Southcott. CLEOS AFTERPARTY might be looking for further but did enjoy the Leonora/Leinster racing last year. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – SIXPENCE SPENT WIN RACE 6 PATYS FORCAST has run some really nice races for Brian Rogers since heading to the stable. Seems to go well fresh and then on quick back-ups. Last two first-up runs have resulted in a 3.5L fifth behind Lil Red Bikini and Ladies of London and a narrow defeat to Artic Blue. Should get a lovely run from the draw. AMBER HIGHWAY finds a new home and drops back in distance. Can sprint well fresh. FLIRTY FRIARS hasn’t been seen for a long while. May need the run. ARTICULATOR has been improving with racing this preparation. Not the worst. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – PATYS FORCAST WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,4,6 2,5 1,2,4 3,6 Market Market
