Scott Embry’s Saturday Narrogin Preview Posted on December 17, 2021December 17, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOIST THE COLOURS was well supported in a maiden at 1800m last start ($10 – $5) and finished off well enough to suggest that he’s ready to win. Looks relatively well suited to the maiden handicap conditions and from the draw he should position up well. Jason Whiting rides these tracks particularly well and this looks a nice race for him. FREEDOMOFTHEPRESS got no luck at all last start when marching deep throughout. Jury still out on whether he stays the trip but this is a thin race. MISS RONA beat them both home last start and should be there abouts again. ODDONEOUT has always shown glimpses in the Great Southern. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – HOIST THE COLOURS WIN RACE 2 DEE RODMAN is pretty quick and no doubt Victoria Corver will be looking to take up a forward position on a leader style of track with a naturally quick horse. Resumed without a trial down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra and finished 3.5L off Northern Ruler and Nights Mystery. Should be good enough form for this. WISE WORDS trialled poorly and then raced poorly first-up. 2 year old form was super but the trial and race start this prep is concerning. CARLIN ROAD hasn’t had a lot of luck the last couple for rookie trainer Indianna Weinert. RURAL ARMS showed speed on debut but absolutely no stamina. Tired badly from the 600 to be beaten 11L. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – DEE RODMAN WIN RACE 3 ISOLA BAY won a moderate Geraldton maiden first-up and then went around hard in the market in a 3 year old 0MWLY at Belmont. Looks better suited coming back in distance and looks better suited coming back in grade. No world beater but should be highly competitive in this. BOYISH is back to his home ground. 8 starts at Narrogin for 4 wins and he simply runs for Simone Altieri. Winner with 61.5kg previously under Simone and will be on a jump and run mission. SAX ON QUE went close first-up at Narrogin. This track can be horses for courses and he seems to go well here. NIYACHI is hard to catch but on his day has a nice little turn of foot. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – ISOLA BAY WIN RACE 4 BRYCE ROAD looks like being capable of rolling to breeze and controlling a fairly even race. Last start sat up in the breeze after working hard in the early stages (didn’t cross until the 1400 after sitting three deep) and then was left wanting late in the race beaten 4L. Black Chips has won since out of that race and it should be a nice platform from which to launch at this moderate 46+. Worth consideration. BLACK SMUGGLER has been building and while he is yet to win after 13 at Narrogin he won’t get many better opportunities than this. UBER MOVER looks the likely leader and has been promising to pinch one of these. FOOTSTEPS was better last start. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – BRYCE ROAD WIN RACE 5 ADMIRED is going well for Gary Crispin. His horses seem to relish the Narrogin/York/Toodyay style of racing for whatever reason and Admired’s effort here three starts ago was far better than it reads on paper. The kind of horse who will need to get out and rolling and wasn’t able to at any stage. Since then has run two great staying races at Belmont and Ascot and looks hard to beat here. ZERO DEMERITS has raced in exclusively higher and tougher grade of race over the last 3 or 4 years. Won’t know himself in this company but will have to lump the weight. SMOKING BARREL is never far from the action when he gets into these country ratings races. O’SO TEMPTING can roll to the top and is in grand form. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – ADMIRED WIN RACE 6 SIOUX CITY trialled nicely recently at Lark Hill. Had a speedy one to follow into the trial through Stella Door and went past him in the concluding stages like a horse who would be every chance of winning fresh. Even the third horse in the trial Star Present is handy and would go round favourite in this. Looks a nice race first-up for him. ARTIC BLUE is well placed into this race. Winner in this grade five starts ago on Toodyay Cup day. MISCHIEVIOUS DIVA looked like she would make a metro filly/mare at one stage. Hasn’t lived up to those expectations and finds herself first-up at Narrogin. On raw ability she should go well. TINY’N’TUFF should get a nice run from the inside draw. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 9 Suggested Bet – SIOUX CITY WIN RACE 7 REACTION certainly doesn’t win out of turn (3 from 70 sounds like a Rahul Dravid kind of strike rate) but if you’re ever going to catch him it’s at Narrogin. Six starts at the track and has never missed the money with 2 wins and 4 minors. Jason Whiting knows him inside and out and he showed last start at Pinjarra that he is more than ready to win another. AMERICAN QUEEN had her first start for team Hill-Cover and wasn’t disgraced behind Melody’s Secret and Blazing Billy who has since run second in a 0MWLY 1000 at Pinjarra. LLESSUR was well supported in her WA debut at Belmont ($7.50 into $4.80). No luck last start from a tough draw. FOO TROUBLE is always a chance if he can work his way to the top. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – REACTION WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 1,2,4,6 1,2,6,9 3,5,6 Market Market
