Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on October 1, 2021October 1, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 QUEENSHIP made her Adam Durrant debut fresh a couple of months between outings when finishing fifth beaten 2.5L after sitting wide early and being restrained back into the field to find a position. Has turned into a very handy little form race with Flicka’s Chance winning a C1 since and Safety Fuse breaking through at Northam on Monday. Field is likely to thin out with a few unlikely to back up from Hannans Day and she gets her chance to open her account. GREEN AND SHADY will go around short for a horse resuming without a trial and drawn in a gate to get no favours in running. Debut performance huge. Runs since only moderate. TALK IT UP almost pinched it on Thursday before Rebelzone hit overdrive late. COMMODORE GAL was solid on debut. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – QUEENSHIP WIN RACE 2 REGAL CITY has really turned a corner since joining the Cambana Lodge team. Seems to have appreciated the harder Kalgoorlie surface after spinning the wheels down in Perth over winter. Enormous two starts ago when looking a shot duck at the 800 yet just kept coming to go down narrowly at the hands of Pretty Friar (beating home Little Ses) and then on Thursday was afforded every chance by W.Pike and was strong through the line. Steps out to the staying trip off the quick back-up and looks a stayer in the making. THE CAT RATCHER is a 10 year old but has put the writing on the wall in two runs back. Won’t see a weaker Graduation race than this any time soon. MISS ZEDEL and EGG WHITE are both honest types who will be hitting the line hard late. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – REGAL CITY WIN RACE 3 PINK AND PURPLE won a 64+ at 1600, a 64+ at 1760 and then a Tatts Cup at 1600m before being thrown into the deep end into the Coolgardie Cup and Boulder Cup. Far from disgraced in either event and was racing miles out of her weight division and the handicap. Comes back sharply in grade, is drawn to get a cosy run three back the fence and when W.Pike picks his gaps late the family owned mare will get a wonderful sighter at pinching another one. STRATOCREED ran second in the Kambalda Cup, third in the Tatts Cup and then raced in a forgettable Open Sprint behind Starlign, Moschard and Startthefriar. Keep safe. PRETTY FRIAR has found form and from the draw she’ll get every chance to win back to back races. CUBAN TWIST is going well and beat home Pink and Purple in the Coolgardie Cup. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – PINK AND PURPLE WIN RACE 4 ALCINA is a new mare under the care of Josh Brown and gives the Esperance trainer a big opportunity on Cup Day. 8 starts at Kalgoorlie for 3 wins and 3 minors and resumed from a break in a 58+ when finishing third behind Protected Action and On Red Alert. Those names certainly don’t jump off the page but the ones behind her included Thursday winners Solarize and Semigel as well as Pastry, Dark Mission and Bright Glow. Worth a throw at the stumps at double figures from the ideal draw. TRADE WAR has been given 6 weeks off and a trial by Michael Lane. Has raw ability and a big turn of foot when on song. BORN SPICY is a query at 1200m but her last start effort was incredibly luckless in replay. SCANDOLO was well supported in betting last start and let rip down the centre. Reproduces and goes close. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – ALCINA EACHWAY RACE 5 STARALIGN will need to be at his best to hold off a well weighted Indigo Blue who has a massive 6kg pull on him, however, he is versatile and racing in career best form for Peter Fernie. Should have gone very close in the Coolgardie Sprint when held up for clear running until the race was all over with 61kg. Won an Open Sprint last start with 59.5kg beating home Moschard and subsequent Hannans Handicap winner Startthefriar and now gets out to 1400m. Thriving in Kalgoorlie, runs for Pike and can settle on top of the speed. Hard to beat. INDIGO BLUE was a hard luck story in an ugly race last start. Sat three, four and five wide at various stages of the event and kept coming. Massive run and looks ready to go through the grades. KENTUCKY LOVE didn’t get warm last start. Has ability and can settle closer from the draw. PHONEME has been racing against far better horses recently. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – STARALIGN WIN RACE 6 BLAZING TYCOON will be double figures and isn’t without a hope at odds. Has been completely luckless at his last two outings with 3kg claiming apprentices who have been unable to find much clear running in the straight. Brad Rawiller jumps on, he is drawn get one to do no work three back the fence and if the gaps do open for him he’s got a short sharp sprint which could see him surprise a few. LITTLE SES has come of age in the last 2 months. William Pike suits get back sit sprinters and that’s exactly what this mare is proving to be. CAMPESE has been a wallet burner since arriving in WA. At crossroads with punters. THERE’S A CHANCE rolls to the top and controls the tempo of the race. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – BLAZING TYCOON EACHWAY RACE 7 MANHATTAN MONEY is a track specialist. All 8 career wins are at the KBRC and a large number of them are when fresh. She needs races to unfold in her favour as a natural backmarker but is capable of reeling off electric splits if the race is run to suit her. Looks to be sufficient top end tempo for her to sit out the back and zap them late. Likely to make her run at the same time as Beret and she can definitely match motors with the favourite. BERET was enormous in a slowly run race first-up. She’s got a big turn of foot and can sustain a run. Expecting Pike and CJP to engage in a tactical battle. Looks a mare who is ready to string a few together this campaign. WEAPONSON hasn’t shown up so far this campaign. Apprentices replaced by Paul Harvey. Keep safe and expect improvement. FALSE STATEMENT can be hit and miss. You’ll likely know your fate after 2 strides. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN MONEY WIN RACE 8 MEDIA BARON looks perfectly placed to salute in the Kalgoorlie Cup of 2021. Stepped from 1400m to 2100m in the Boulder Cup and was ridden by apprentice Kristy Bennett who was unable to claim. Balanced up late in the race and ran the fastest L400 and F200 splits to put the writing on the wall. Paul Harvey jumps aboard for the Kal Cup, Media Baron drops 1kg in the weights and is drawn the perfect gate to settle midfield and be presented at the right time. With so many horses outside the handicap he looks the one to beat and a great betting opportunity. BELLA’S IDOL went down in the shadows of the post last start. Has far superior ratings form than a number of shorter priced rivals. RED HOT TIP won’t know himself with 54kg but hasn’t won a race in a long while. SUGAR CAIN backs up from a 66+ win at Belmont Park. This is an 86+. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – MEDIA BARON WIN RACE 9 DARK MISSION has hit form for the Fernie team after being purchased at the winter Bob Peters Dispersal Sale. Beat Devine Beast two starts ago (and meets her half a kilo better at the weights) and then last time out was unable to get clear at any stage and went to the line untested under a hold. She’ll settle out the back and come with a well timed run at them. DEVINE BEAST has run the outstanding sectionals of the meeting at her last two starts at Belmont. Returns to Kalgoorlie where she has won all 3 career races. From the draw Parnham can have her midfield with cover and if the gaps appear she’ll be flashing late. JACKPOT LEGEND is unveiled for his WA debut on Cup Day. Big market watch. Looks to have a motor and genuine speed. SAMMY THE BOSS a blow out chance at huge odds for quaddie players. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – DARK MISSION EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,4,8,9 4,5,8 3 1,3,7,9 Market Market
