Scott Embry’s Saturday Esperance Preview Posted on January 15, 2026January 16, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 GUARD THE MULLAH won a barrier trial on a Heavy at Belmont Park and was kept safe in betting at his return in a 3 year old 0MWLY when beaten 9L behind Rock Fest who went on to contest the WA Guineas. He then again raced in a 3 year old 0MWLY that was won by Fine Star who headed to the WA Champion Fillies. This is considerably easier down in a country maiden in Esperance. I HAD A DREAM is a career maiden who continues to tease. He has finished in the money at 7 from 10 in Esperance and last start looked to have finally found his day when odds on favourite Golden Opera wasn’t in the contest, but alas, yet again he found one better. VERVAIN has shown more than enough in three runs to date. THREE AY EM has shades added and wasn’t disgraced at Pinny. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – GUARD THE MULLAH WIN RACE 2 GOLDEN OPERA was sent out a near odds on favourite last start and was never in the hunt. She ended up back fence in run which is never ideal at Esperance but that’s even been better than recent seasons, so given there was no vets excuses she just clearly had an off day. Prior to that was knocking on the door and all these maidens can be forgiven one below par performance. IMPORT was a massive drifter on debut but ran really well being beaten under a length and that was after doing everything wrong in the home straight. Should improve quickly with experience. SECRET INTENT may just need a touch further than 1300m but won’t be a maiden long in the region. Nice pick up. PURE HEARTED has been punted at each run in Esperance but yet to fire. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet – GOLDEN OPERA WIN RACE 3 DAINTY ROSE was disappointing last start, however, she had blinkers attached first time and over-raced badly in the early and middle stages. The shades come straight back off again and think she’s worth forgiving because the first-up win was super. MEAT PIE ARTIE didn’t have to wait long until breaking through in the West. The first-up run over 1100m he was fractious in the gates and missed away in a forgive and then second-up snuck right under the guard when winning by nearly a length late. Can win again. HARLEQUIN PRANCER is thriving with new trainer Cam McCullum and gets the right soft of run for her, midfield cover and unleashing late. BIONDO is yet to set the world on fire since transferring down. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – DAINTY ROSE WIN RACE 4 TITAN RISING is from the powerful yard of David Page who is having a season to remember in Esperance and looks another horse of his who is a chance at becoming an individual winner for the stable. Put the writing on the wall last start behind stablemate Zadows Landing and just keeps fronting up deep into a campaign. Query on whether many of these will stay but like the use of the claim. WIFE SAYS YES is one who has always shown staying ability/potential. She can be ridden really cold and conservative to make sure she runs out the trip. Attacking the line hard recently. KIRRILY was jumping out of the ground late at 1600 last start. REIGN IN THE CASH nearly broke his maiden last start. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – TITAN RISING WIN RACE 5 ZADOWS LANDING might just be a nice horse. He’s two from two undefeated in Esperance and has really burst through late for victory since arriving. Last time out he drew barrier 2, missed away, mustered up and then when he pushed into the clear he had the race wrapped up. Didn’t win by a big margin but considering he did things wrong and still got the job done, it was super impressive. RAZMAS has been a model of consistency since heading down to Esperance and is versatile. Hard to knock. SECRICITY put the writing on the wall two back and duly saluted last start. Just has to concede the main dangers a head start. MORE LIKELY is the best bred horse that Esperance will see, but unfortunately, he’s just a battler. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – ZADOWS LANDING WIN RACE 6 ELITE FIGHTER would prefer if this was 1400/1600 but provided he can stay in touch with them in the early and middle stages then it looks a winnable race for the old boy. Looks a race with plenty of speed types drawn right across the line and hopefully that brings the swoopers into the contest late at an eachway price. Has been going well all prep in Perth. BUSTERS GAL and DIEGO DYNAMITE are both going well but both could be right on their limits at 1200m. Likely comes down to how much pressure they apply to each other and whether they can pinch a breather at some stage in running. OREGON HIKER caused a bit of a boilover last start but can again roll forward, like many others. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 11 – 4 Suggested Bet – ELITE FIGHTER EACHWAY RACE 7 THE JESTER’S SON really came of age in Kalgoorlie at the back end of their season, culminating in a win in a 60+ Graduation over 1760m. Helen Harding has her team ticking along really well and he’s more than capable of sprinting well fresh. Hasn’t won a race first-up after 4x attempts, however, he has finished in the money each time and is seemingly getting better with age. Still has room to work his way through the grades. DADIRRA is enjoying a wonderful season having won three of her last four and should safely get across from her wide alley. ZADAR ROCK won the Roebourne Cup last season and ran third in the Port Hedland Cup before running fourth in the Broome Cup. First-up, no trial, back onto grass. Don’t dismiss at a price. CRUNCHY NUT comes on quickly into his preps. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – THE JESTER’S SON WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,5,8 5,6,7 4,6,8,10,11 5,8 Market Market
