Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on September 14, 2018 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 FERNGROVE put in an uncharacteristic shocker last start but drops back in distance and also looks well weighted after the claim. Has natural gate speed and should take full advantage of the inside draw. DIAMOND JOLSON won two on the bounce and can definitely bounce back to winning form in this. Renee Forrest riding particularly well. GLOWING ROCK was travelling last start outside the leader and looks to have recaptured form. HANDYMAN has been backed many times this preparation without firing. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – FERNGROVE WIN Race 2 MASCHERANO has put together two equally impressive performances and this really does look the race to win. Drawn gate 1, Altieri an aggressive front running hoop engaged, like it. BAI BAI is on debut but looks like one who will break a maiden soon. Trials behind more experienced types have been solid. STAY SWEET continues to get back and run on hard late in the piece. JUST DAVE gave cheek last start. Numbers: 2 – 11 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – MASCHERANO WIN Race 3 EXEXCEL is a 1000m dirt specialist. Plenty more wins in the Exceed and Excel mare unless they choose to send her to stud at the end of the season. Speedy, tough and will again take a stack of beating. TRIPELETTO is another who possesses good speed and the provincial form lines read well for this. LADY TALENT should position up just in behind the speed and get a nice run. ROSA FILENTE is going well but was no match for Exexcel last start. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – EXEXCEL WIN Race 4 BOLSHOI BANDIT comes back from a strong North West campaign and was good enough last start to go close in this. Should position up nicely close handy from the gate. CLEVE’S WATCHING ran some nice races in Broome against arguably tougher opposition and then charged over them last start. Can do similar here. THE DAINTREE has only won a maiden but can lead them up here. ANDREINI has nice Broome form and can play a part with a sustained wide run. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – BOLSHOI BANDIT EACHWAY Race 5 SALTY is not drawn perfectly in gate 1 because he tends to race off the speed and wind up. Not fully convinced he is looking for a mile but if he does see out the trip he looks very hard to beat. PORTRAIT LAO ran his first bad race last start on paper. Prior to that was in the money at 6 consecutive. Pay to forgive. SHREWD GAMBLE won well last start and strikes a race of similar quality and depth. TAVERNIER BLUE can always a fill a hole in the minors with the right run. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – SALTY WIN Race 6 ROGER THE ROMAN is actually well placed and weighted with 64kg after the claim for Jess Gray. He lumped 63kg in the Broome Sprint, a far superior quality of race than this and was arguably a good thing beaten. He can carry the weight and should prove too classy. PERAZZI was in the same Broome Sprint and was no match for Roger and has a significant weight swing against him. FAITH IN FATE looks likely to find a soft lead and will take running down. NET PROFIT goes great guns at the track and Hall will wind up deep. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – ROGER THE ROMAN WIN Race 7 SPEED ‘N’ REEF has been up for a long time and has start number 11 this preparation having covered thousands of kilometers but this race is definitely winnable for him. Consistent type and Peta Edwards has owned Carnarvon all season. BEG TO DIFFER definitely has metro form jumping off the page and screaming out but has been beaten on the dirt by both Boys Get Around Him and Speed ‘N’ Reef before. TOM ALMIGHTY is a query at the trip but goes 10L better for Peter Hall than anyone else. BOYS GET AROUND HIM lumps his big weight bravely every start. Numbers: 14 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – SPEED ‘N’ REEF EACHWAY Race 8 DAM LUCKY was charging late in the race behind Exexcel. Think he is better suited at 1200m and that form could well be enhanced earlier in the day. He looks the get out. ACTIVATE ME comes straight out of maiden grade but jumps straight to the top and runs. GERSHOM could run a if he somehow managed to get across and find the breeze. STRATOSPHILLY could be a blow out with the right splits late. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – DAM LUCKY WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,4,5 1 1,2,4,5,14 2,3 Market Market
