Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on August 26, 2022August 28, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WESTERN KNIGHT defied an aggressive drift first-up ($2.60 out to $6) when storming home over 985m to break his maiden, winning by over a length. Really got busy late and looks to be ultra-progressive. Maiden straight into a 60+ 0MWLY not an easy task but the way he attacked the line gave the indication he’ll measure up. Think the faster they go the better it is for him and with Agent Jay, Trevern and Famous Jurney engaged they’ll clap the speed on. DIVINE PAIR looks like he’ll get a gun run parked behind the speed pair and enjoys the run of the race. AGENT JAY gets his chance to find the fence in this grade. STORM COMMANDER gets a similar run to Divine Pair and is rarely far from the winner. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – WESTERN KNIGHT WIN RACE 2 BABY PARIS had a big following at her return to the races and didn’t let her supporters down. She positioned up, travelled boldly throughout and then let rip with an exciting turn of foot to put the race away quickly on straightening. Gets a near identical run in transit here and provided she runs out a strong 1200m looks the winner on paper. SWP conditions means she only rises 1kg in weight and she has big upside. SALOON BAR is one that many a WA trial watcher have been waiting for. Hasn’t won a trial but all three have been equally as impressive. She looks a legitimate danger and a big follow. UNIVERSAL FLAIR will jump and run. SWIM THROUGH can park on Universal Flair. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – BABY PARIS WIN RACE 3 ARNIE’S BOY has been up for an eternity but continues to race well. He was a winner this track, this distance, this grade only four starts ago when gunning them down from near last on the corner. Since then he has raced without much luck and on wet tracks which seem to take away a bit of his sustained run. Paul Harvey back on, drawn a gate and goes round double figures. He’s always a chance in these Westspeed races. MY FURY is ready to win again. Backs up off 7 days, drops in grade out of 60+ Graduation company and ran really well behind Marlize when wide and working throughout. FOREVER DREAMING gets a far better run from a more favourable gate. ZERO CONSEQUENCE likely settles last and concedes them a fair head start. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – ARNIE’S BOY EACHWAY RACE 4 BUSTER BASH doesn’t get the Heavy track conditions that he loves but he is still a more than handy horse on top of the ground. First-up finished 6L off Nowhiteflag over 1200m and then took it right up to Multinational last start in a 72+ 1400. Even better suited third-up and out to 1600m and looks like he’ll park up outside of That’s Funny Az. Think he’s ready to win. BLINDER backs up off 7 days and has run two solid races at his return from a spell. Drops 3.5kg on his effort last week and travelled into the corner well. WESTRIVER MIRACLE continues to dig deep and find a way to win. This is a really sticky barrier for him and may have to drag back? VITAL FLIRT is in great form and can sustain a run from the 600. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – BUSTER BASH WIN RACE 5 OVERTHOUGHT is an honest and consistent staying mare who should run another genuine eachway race here. Has been beaten by Alimentaria at her last two starts but gets decent weight swings in her favour and should find a handy position in running, midfield with cover. Got out sprinted last start in an Olympic Walk (first 1500m = 15L slower than average) and kept grinding to the line. Going well enough to pinch this. ALIMENTARIA is in a rich vein of form, however, has been thriving on heavily rain affected tracks and has to lump 59kg here. DANCING JACK is racing in career best form. Hard to get too enthused about a horse who is 2 from 42. KAZKAZI never got out at any stage last start. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – OVERTHOUGHT EACHWAY RACE 6 GINGER BAKER looks to have found an ideal assignment second-up. Chased hard with 60.5kg on a deteriorating Soft6 behind Currimundi in a race where Castillo Del Lago had them rolling throughout. Brad Parnham is riding particularly well at the minute and this is about as good a chance as he’ll get. Proven 66+/72+ type who like stablemate Allez Allez looks to have come back really well. BENJI’S got the job done in a C1 at Northam. Likely has to go back to near last here. LITTLE FLIRT can hold a position from her gate and rarely misses the money in Belmont Park 1400m events. KOHLI doesn’t win out of turn but looks well placed. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – GINGER BAKER WIN RACE 7 BEADS has only missed the money once in his life at the Belmont Park 1000 and that was when finishing fourth (with 59kg) behind Nowhiteflag, Sneaky Chance and State Of Power. Love the use of the Brandon Louis 2kg claim to get him down to 58kg and on the fresh side he should bounce out of the gates and take it up. Eachway all day. SPIRITED SESSION has won two from three this time in and most recently finished a narrow second to Comes A Time in a 72+. Impossible to fault the way he’s going and he’s another who goes round an eachway quote. STATE OF POWER gest right down in the weights after the Watson claim and continues to attack the line. HARMIKA is a nice mare resuming and parks up over the speed. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – BEADS EACHWAY RACE 8 NERODIO is far and away the best suited horse at WFA. He is now a m105 rater and the closest rivals are m95 raters. He gets enormous weight swings on all horses out of the HG Bolton and Belmont Newmarket. Won the Belmont Newmarket by 1.7L and meets Great Again, Resortman and Carocapo 3.5kg better, Western Temple 4kg better and Floyd, Staralign and Jericho Missile 5.5kg better. The only query is him seeing out 1300m. RESORTMAN was excellent in the HG Bolton and then got bogged down in a forgive run in the Belmont Newmarket. OUTRAGEOUS is better than what he produced first-up. CAROCAPO an improver on a dry track. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – NERODIO WIN RACE 9 REGAL MAGIC brings the much loved Phanta form. Last start was caught wide throughout in a race run 6L faster than average that contained Phanta, Multinational, Buster Bash and Allez Allez. That form speaks for itself and this looks a nice set up for her. While she would clearly prefer it wet she’ll get a lovely soft run into the race and if Lucy Warwick can find clear air in the home straight she’ll take holding out. VANE TEMPEST is flying. Backs up again off 7 days and finds a lovely middle ground at 1300m. If she steps cleanly she’s a huge chance. BROOKLYN PIER ran well first-up on a Heavy track. Should only improve off that and maps a treat. ALL DAY SESSION can be dangerous late. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – REGAL MAGIC EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,3 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 5,9 1,2,4,5,6,8,11 Market Market
