Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on May 15, 2025May 15, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CAPITOLA was back to his best last start and fits the “Belmont 1000” profile. Since the Chute was realigned 74% of winners have settled in the first four and 57% of winners have drawn in barriers 1 – 4. It has been dominated by on speed horses drawn low and that’s exactly what Capitola is. After the Brayden Gaerth claim he’s carrying half a kilo less and no doubt will be ridden for speed. BRAVE WASP was the run of the race in the same event, however, he gets back which could make him suspect over the short course. SILENT DIVA and ARCTIC SNOW both trialled super ahead of their respective debuts and look to have futures. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – CAPITOLA WIN RACE 2 DESERT WHISPER resumed off only a 400m jump out and went really quick before being ultimately run down late by emerging sprinter Kay Tee Why. With all the focus on Kay Tee Why, Repossession and Earthstorm she might well hold up at an eachway price and again, happy to speculate and play the leaders over the Belmont 1000 until proven otherwise. REPOSSESSION won the Placid Ark Prelude before finishing 1L off Wind And The Lion in the Placid Ark. His 400m jump out was electric (23.01). KAY TEE WHY is an exciting proposition. Once he gets balanced he can reel off a huge L400. EARTHSTORM is a more than capable filly but 59.5kg is an ask. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – DESERT WHISPER EACHWAY RACE 3 RICHANCO returned in a blaze of glory at Ascot when leading, travelling beautifully in running and kicking hard into the corner to hold them all off. Rises 3.5kg to 59kg here which certainly makes his life tougher but don’t see anything drawn underneath him that will hold him out (provided Prospector’s Pick hands up) but if he has to breeze then so be it. Nice horse. PROSPECTOR’S PICK was all the rage at his return to racing and recorded an effortless win. He’s getting better and better with racing and from leader’s back he’s extremely dangerous but he’s just as capable if they hold up and lead on him. KEEP ITA MYSTERY is bursting to win a race and finally draws a gate. REGAL STATUE has a nice turn of foot on her day. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – RICHANCO WIN RACE 4 HENCHARD is a different horse under Coreen Maynard. Any of his last three efforts are good enough to win this and after a luckless run in a 66+ last weekend they’ve been able to find a really winnable 60+ Graduation on the 7-day back-up. FAMOUS DAIN went down to Albany and put on a clinic in a lowly 58+. He does love a Soft track so expecting him to burst his way through the staying grades over winter – but on a Good4 on opening day could he be vulnerable vs his price? KEGGS LATER has been beating nothing but doing it well. BAYHARA was completely unsuited last start and still got to the line. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – HENCHARD EACHWAY RACE 5 WESTERN POWER has done it tough at two of his last three and yet still gone well. There’s no speed in this so expecting that we might see a rare Cerise And White leader with Lucy Fiore likely to roll forward on him without anything looing to hold him out. Like that set up. TRIO beat him home last time they met but concedes him 1.5kg for a nose margin and will likely concede him a decent headstart in running. CLASSIC ROGUE is ready to win. His first-up 1000m effort was outstanding, his second-up 1200m run even better and he’s now third-up out to 1600m. Re-handicapped race with a raised minimum doesn’t suit him but he’s flying. BONDI PLUNGE is consistent. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – WESTERN POWER WIN RACE 6 CATCH CARTER and AMERICAN ESCAPE are both really well placed as 3 year olds taking on the older horses. Going to side up with CATCH CARTER who drops 3kg from a 3 year old Saturday behind Kay Tee Why, Desert Whisper and finishing ahead of subsequent winner Haida Gwaii into this 60+ Grad where he can settle closer from a more favourable draw. AMERICAN ESCAPE put the writing on the wall with her 3L trial win and on the minimum from an ideal barrier will be hard to beat. SKY DUKE deserves to pinch another one this prep with the way he’s going. LOST GRAVITY got a confidence boosting win at Albany. Numbers: 5 – 10 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – CATCH CARTER WIN RACE 7 BOHEMIAN DIAMOND won back to back races in emphatic fashion first-up and second-up last preparation before being sent out a $3 favourite from a horrible alley in a Westspeed Platinum race that contained Profit Pocket – that’s huge market respect. Her recent trial was great and from the draw she’ll be able to park up just behind the speed and looks a mare who is ready to go through the grades. OCEAN GODDESS looks to be screaming out for further. It’s only 100m but it’ll help. HAMMARMILL got the job done last start from three back the fence and is likely in the same spot here. VALDARENA improves second-up and to Belmont. Numbers: 7 – 13 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – BOHEMIAN DIAMOND WIN RACE 8 TREBLE MAKER returned from a 16 month spell at Pinjarra on 9 April with a fast finishing second in a C1 on a heavy leader dominated program. Since then she has put together two high impressive victories in Kalgoorlie and now gets into the RacingWA Provincial Championship Series Final on the 54kg minimum from an ideal barrier. She’s got a nice turn of foot and should enjoy a soft run. PLATINUM SHOT went around in a Grad 60+ last start and worked to the line solidly behind capable stablemate Madame Magic. CAMERA ACTION is drawn in the carpark but is on the 6 day spin. SECRET ATTIRE improves quickly in her preparation. Numbers: 16 – 2 – 3 – 14 Suggested Bet – TREBLE MAKER WIN RACE 9 CORRECT CHOICE was back to his best last start with a sweeping victory over 1500m. Take away his one below par run behind Blazing Emerald and he looks a progressive 4 year old who can continue on through the grades over winter. Great faith being shown in Brayden Gaerth throughout the entire program. SPEED DREAM doesn’t go at Ascot and yet last weekend still rattled into second behind Siberian Siren. Belmont is his go. BLACK ORA was below her best last start and now Adam Durrant takes her from 1000 to 1400m in one step. She’s a really nice filly but that has to be a query? DUG ANOTHER HOLE has gone from a maiden to 59kg in a 66+ all in one preparation. Super effort. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 12 – 4 Suggested Bet – CORRECT CHOICE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 5,10 3,7,13 2,3,14,16 1,3,4,8,12 Market Market
