Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 22, 2021April 24, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ASTARBA has improved at each and every outing for the in-form Chris Willis yard. Recent third placing behind Scorpion Stormz and Famous Jurney is good enough and with blinkers added for the first time it may just give him the extra length he needs to be highly competitive. PLATINUM LABEL struck a soft7 track first-up and ran well. Her trials suggested she wouldn’t be a maiden long and it looks like Pateman has elected to stick. CROSSED SWORDS hasn’t been seen for 485 days but in his one and only outing he did go round an even money pop. Clearly had issues. BOYOHBOY WOWEE improved sharply from his initial prep. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – ASTARBA WIN RACE 2 FRIAR’S FANTASIA is looking to break her Ascot duck and from the draw should get every possible chance to do so. Last three runs have been encouraging and the way she’s racing it seems like 1800m is exactly what she’s looking for. With Great Charade winning Wednesday and the re-handicapped conditions (57+) this is actually a drop in grade for her and she gets her chance. BLACKWATER BAY is undeniably talented but there has to be some level of caution resuming at 1800m from a gate where he will have to settle rearward. TRISUEM has come of age in the last few months and seems to love Lucy Warwick. LYLE’S CHOICE was bitterly disappointing last start. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – FRIAR’S FANTASIA WIN RACE 3 FLYING MISSILE returned to racing this campaign with a dominant midweek victory at $1.30. She was then one of the stronger supported runners in the Group 2 Karrkatta Plate, a race which produced the trifecta in the Sires Produce Stakes last weekend. Clearly the best form reference and has the gate speed to negate the awkward draw. ASTRAPE finished third in the same race that Ultimate Command won and Flying Missile ran third in her initial prep. Quiet trial and drawn to stalk at her return. ULTIMATE COMMAND has the shades re-attached and is extremely quick. AIN’T NO OTHER MAN has put together two big runs since resuming. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – FLYING MISSILE WIN RACE 4 TYCOON STORM is undefeated this preparation coming through 72+ and 78+ assignments in style. At her most recent she defeated Watch Me Dance by a length and at the set weights and penalties conditions actually meets the filly 1.5kg better for beating her. Hard to be turning the tables with those weight conditions. WATCH ME DANCE is a proper filly who has lost no admirers in three runs back. Chased hard behind Clairvoyance last start and is better suited at 1400. CRYPTIC LOVE was run off her legs in the same race. She should be suited by the small field. WORTH A RISK scratched from Wednesday to try and pinch some black-type. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – TYCOON STORM WIN RACE 5 KAPTAIN KAOS is charging through the grades and showing an exciting turn of acceleration. Versatile type who has sat midfield with cover, leader’s back and rearward at three victories since joining the emerging stables of Michael Grantham. The way he attacked the line last start on a day which was suiting those close handy to the pace was extremely impressive and he looks like he’ll continue on his winning ways. STELLAR VISTA went under at odds on in a midweeker but had to sustain a run searching run. No favours at the barrier draw again. KALLAROO gets 4kg on Kaptain Kaos from their last start encounter. Can build quickly. PHANTA got the better of Dom to Shoot on debut. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – KAPTAIN KAOS WIN RACE 6 COMES A TIME was a first-up winner in this grade for the JT Warwick yard last preparation and will look to reproduce here. Floated to victory in his first 950 trial over subsequent winner Zackariah Beau and then chased hard behind talented 3 year old Acromantula in a fast run trial. Gets the right run from the draw and has always flashed potential. CITY CIRCLE got the better of moderate 58+ opposition last start. Barrier 1 suits her as she’ll park leader’s back and enjoy the suck run. PANZDOWN has been a polarizing galloper in his short career but did win very soft first-up. SECRET ASSAULT is going super being ridden for pure speed. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – COMES A TIME WIN RACE 7 WAR GOD is the kind of horse who could bob up at odds in this very evenly graded 70+ affair. Always around the mark in this grade, gets weight relief having dropped having dropped 5 points in 6 runs as well as the 2kg claim for Laqdar Ramoly, backs up off 7 days and gets the right run from the soft draw. Weight swings on many rivals from recent encounters and worth a throw at the stumps. NOT TO BE MIST reunites with W.Pike. They have teamed up for 5 of his 6 career victories. Just needs to the race to pan out for him. POSITION OF POWER was huge last start tramping deep throughout. Looks a big chance of being posted again here. SOPHIE’S SONG does no work in the run. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – WAR GOD EACHWAY RACE 8 TRAP FOR FOOLS is a m107 rater in a 78+ (68.5kg in open handicap conditions) however ‘only’ carries 62kg top weight in this feature event. Two starts ago in the Old Comrade he lumped the 62 and ran second to Media Baron. Meets him a whopping 7.5kg better at the weights here and the Lindsey Smith yard throw blinkers at the old boy for the first time in years. Rock hard fit, back in form and if this turns into an on speed dog fight he’ll be up for it. MACKENZIE BROOKE was brilliant at her return to racing. Gets 3.5kg on That’s Funny Az for a nose defeat and should track up nicely from the draw. THAT’S FUNNY AZ concedes most recent rivals big weight with the senior going on but is in undeniable form. MAROCCHINO has been placed to perfection by Lou Luciani recently. This is his toughest test yet. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – TRAP FOR FOOLS WIN RACE 9 TINSNIP looks hard to beat in the last. Backs up off 7 days, gains the services of W.Pike and is drawn to do no work in the box seat. Chased hard under 61kg last week behind a talented 3 year old in Billy Ain’t Silly, prior to that went round favourite in this grade when getting too far out of his ground and hitting the line when the race was all over. Looks a nice race for him. PRETTY FRIAR is lightly raced and getting better. Liked her first-up effort. MY GREEK BOY is deep into the campaign but rates well for this. NO APOLOGY has a senior rider engaged and has hit form. Number: 4 – 10 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – TINSNIP WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3,4,7,10 1,2,3,6,9,10 2,6,7,8 4,5,7,8,10,12 Market Market The Black Hearts are WA’s team in The Racing League – the world’s first horse racing league.
