Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on October 15, 2020October 19, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WITHOUT REASON is flying and gets another great opportunity to record another victory. The win three starts ago was strong when tracking a hot tempo and pouncing at the top of the straight. Was luckless two starts ago when held up at crucial stages and unable to build momentum and then last start was run down in the shadows of the post in a race run 10L faster than average. He lumped 60.5kg on top of that hot tempo and was brave. ARAGAIN should box seat here and showed staying ability when second to the inform Bonneville Black two starts ago. AMERISSA is always a blowout chance when drawn soft. SUGAR CAIN ran very well for Laqdar Ramoly two starts ago. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – WITHOUT REASON WIN RACE 2 REWRITE THE STARS maps to get all the favours in the run. First-up last preparation she was excellent behind Showmanship before then being stiff behind talented 3-year olds Bright Diamond and Puckapunyal. Went on to win her next two in style and looks capable of going through the grades. TIME TO SIZZLE was uncharacteristically slow away last start (did cop of bump) and showed versatility to win from midfield. 59kg and 1200m both a big ask for a small mare. INDIAN CHANT has been going well in the Goldfields and was a big winner at this track in this grade last season. I’M PRETTY will need some luck. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – REWRITE THE STARS WIN RACE 3 SECRET PLAN is probably one of the more replayed runs of the last 6 months. He was sublime on debut when rounding them up from last over 1000m on a Soft6 when coming home with a wet sail. Risky betting proposition in this race with such a depth of talent and a sticky map but it is still exciting seeing these potential stars resume. FRIDAY KNIGHT has been enormous in defeat over 1000m his last two. Broke 33sec his final 600 last start and that suggests he is special. SASSY TRADER was a dashing trial and looks set for a big prep. FIRST LAW has WA Guineas written all over him and trialled soft. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – SECRET PLAN WIN RACE 4 KELLY’S CALLISTO did all the work in the Ladies Day Sprint at Northam when only gunned down late by the stablemate. Senior rider on, crosses to the top and shouldn’t have to absorb much pressure at all. If Chris Parnham can get a breather in the middle stages he’ll take running down. NOTORIOUS ONE was scratched Saturday and Wednesday from sticky maps and now draws a gate and should finally go round. He is an excitement machine but does a lot wrong and has his first start at Ascot. BRITISH BESSY arguably should have won a 72+ first-up last preparation. Keep safe. DECEPTION GAME doesn’t know how to run a bad race when the track is firm. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S CALLISTO WIN RACE 5 INDIGO BLUE went up to Kalgoorlie and had to settle a fair way off them from a tough draw. Here she likely lands one out and one back and should enjoy the run of the race. This is not a deep field and she gets in with a mere 54kg. The progressive 3-year olds are beating up on the older horses (Chantorque, Dom to Shoot, Outback Jack, Mystical View, Real Grace, etc) and she can continue that trend. PRECAUTIONARY was sent to the top last start and see no reason why she won’t adopt similar tactics and prove hard to run down. SPECIAL CHOICE will need some luck but has a big finish on her. BOLSHOI GAL should be given every chance. Numbers: 10 – 11 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – INDIGO BLUE WIN RACE 6 BATTLE STORM returns to WA after just the one start in VIC. He scored five consecutive victories at 1000m (albeit at Belmont) before the bubble burst at 1200m. Trust Grant & Alana Williams to have him ready to fire first-up and if he is within 5L of Condor Heroes on the corner he should make a race of it. CONDOR HEROES would be simply uncatchable if he could reproduce his 57.32 effort of last season. Likely has to work to cross and that could mean they let him run. CHIX PIC shouldn’t do any work from three back the fence. STATE ATTORNEY finds it hard to win but goes super fresh. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – BATTLE STORM WIN RACE 7 VALOUR ROAD was a super impressive winner of the Miss Andretti at Ascot in January in a high pressure 1000m race. That is a very similar profile to what we will see here with Mervyn and Indian Pacific set to lock horns in a mouth-watering speed battle. Valour Road should end up one out and two back from the draw and he can launch late. INDIAN PACIFIC has been recording outstanding ratings as he continues his way through the grades. Risks a lot of ratings points by heading to this race but get the feeling Neville Parnham wants them anyway for a Winterbottom tilt. JERICHO MISSILE will be chasing but can sustain a run. STAGEMAN is a top-class sprinter who will be saved for one last crack at them. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – VALOUR ROAD EACHWAY RACE 8 MASSIMO was a dramatic late scratching in the Hannans when found to be lame on race day. Means he comes into this a month between runs and that could well be a positive for a horse who is deep into a campaign. Continues to hold form brilliantly and maps to get a box seat run in a high-speed race. VITAL SILVER didn’t look at all comfortable in behind horses last start. He could land one out and one back and from there at 1400m he is a legitimate winning chance. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN went around favourite in last year’s Railway Stakes. Didn’t come up last prep, trialled like his old self. GREAT SHOT gets enormous weight relief at Set Weights and Penalties conditions. Would be great to see him turn back the clock. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 16 Suggested Bet – MASSIMO EACHWAY RACE 9 MOSCHARD was eye catching in the Hannans Handicap when pulling ground off Pym’s Royale and Yeah Dardy in the run to the post. One more stride and he probably runs second to Money Matters and that looks super form dropping back into a 72+. Will need a peach from Pateman but he is riding very well. POSITION OF POWER didn’t fire a shot last start. Worth forgiving because his previous form was strong. MYSTERY MISS has her first outing for a new yard but will need some luck. STRIKE FORCE has hit form. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – MOSCHARD WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3 2,4,5,9,10 1,2,3,6,7,9,10,16 1,2,3 Market Market
