Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 9, 2022March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ACROMANTULA gets his opportunity to bounce back to the winner’s circle and give promising apprentice Luke Campbell a Saturday winner with his first ride. Ran well first-up with 59kg behind subsequent Listed Fillies & Mares winner and Group One Winterbottom Stakes acceptor Sniparoochy before putting in a below par performance last start (was a day that didn’t suit those on the fence however). Meets Beads 5.5kg better at the weights and crosses to the fence. Hard horse to run down on his day. BEADS is a class act and he was tough last start when tramping three deep the trip to score. He’s a deserving favourite and the one to hold out. RIVER BEAU is probably not an apprentice’s horse but with his awkward rating there’s very few races around for him. KIA ORA STAR can fight on from the breeze. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – ACROMANTULA WIN Same Race Multi – Acromantula (Top 3) + Beads (Top 3) + River Beau (Top 4) RACE 2 GALAXY AFFAIR and AIYZA met three starts ago behind Legacy of Tara and two starts ago behind Vitalize. GALAXY AFFAIR beat her home on both occasions and meets her 1kg better from the Legacy of Tara race and at the exact same weights from the Vitalize race. He goes round a better price and maps to get a lovely run in transit for top hoop Ben Melham. Scratched from a winnable race on Wednesday to save for this. AIYZA was super in the Lee Steere Classic behind Saintorio and All The King’s Men. Drawn awkwardly but has tactical speed and versatility. Looks the one to beat with even luck. NO PEER won well off the back of a slick trial. Respect her. DIAMOND COMMAND was scratched recently with a virus which is a notable red flag. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – GALAXY AFFAIR WIN RACE 3 HALATORION was a tough watch on Winterbottom Stakes Day in the Westspeed Platinum final. William Pike simply never saw daylight at any stage in the home straight and he looked to go to the line bolting. Roy Rogers and powerful punting connections call on Damien Oliver and with even luck from the favourable draw he can score a deserving victory. Looks to get a lovely run tucked away in behind Dance Cockey/Samaria. DANCE COCKEY was 6 weeks between runs in that same race and was at 1400m. Huge effort to kick for as long as he did into the straight. Keep safe at double figures. REIGN OF FIRE is bursting to win a race but his Ascot record is not good and barrier 1 for him likely means 3 back the fence. SAMARIA can park up in the breeze. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet – HALATORION WIN RACE 4 SPECIAL VIEW didn’t get much room to move last week when finishing fifth behind Megazone. Was travelling nicely into the corner but was pocketed between runners and went to the line without being fully tested. Backs up off 7 days, drops from a 66+ back into a 60+ Graduation and gains the services of the State’s form rider Bradley Parnham. Looks a live eachway chance in an open and even event. KEYTRADE and VITALIZE are both going super and can definitely measure up in this. Both look to get the runs they need (Keytrade room to move and Vitalize cover). ZADAR ROCK has been somewhat hit and miss throughout his career. Hard to run down when he finds the fence in his races. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – SPECIAL VIEW EACHWAY RACE 5 TADWEER trialled well alongside On The Full over 1000m at Belmont Park and then was well supported at eachway odds throughout betting at his return to racing. Was drawn a really tough gate (9 of 13) and sat deep throughout. Thought he worked to the line quite well and from the much better draw could be an improver second-up. Showed enough when last in work and goes round close to double figures. CAPITAL FLIGHT won four on the bounce last preparation and stamped himself as a progressive sprinter. Loved his recent trial and has versatility. SWIM THROUGH ran a ripper last start behind Bitofmerit. Gets a similar run midfield cover. MOI CHOUX has been impressive since arriving in WA. Looks destined to be three deep the trip here. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – TADWEER EACHWAY RACE 6 HARDLY EVER looks to have a great map to work with second-up. Was plunged into near favourite on resumption when finishing off into fourth behind Bitofmerit. Steps to 1200m and can track in behind a spirited top end tempo where Charge, My Marlaina, Magic To Exceed and Real Danger are likely to turn it on early. From midfield cover she can unleash a big L600. Nice race for her. OUR WIND SPIRIT was bolting last weekend. Never got clear at any stage and looked to have plenty to offer. Keep safe. REAL DANGER is honest and consistent but is probably almost on her mark. MY MARLAINA won well at her Danny Morton debut. Breezing outside of Charge looks Plan A. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – HARDLY EVER WIN RACE 7 ALSEPHINA was plunged in betting her return to racing ($8.50 into $2.75) and travelled the winner throughout before letting rip late in the race to score another dominant win. Think she’s better than 72+ grade and while she runs into in form types Above The Peg, Playing Marika, Megazone & Co she still looks like she’s got more to offer. Midfield cover is her position and that’s where she maps. Exciting mare. ABOVE THE PEG should get a lovely run behind the speed. Just couldn’t get clear at a crucial stage last start. BIG BADA BOOM could be left alone out in front if That’s Funny Az doesn’t start (still no rider named Thursday). Improver at odds. TRI FOR US is consistent and endured a tough run last week before copping a severe check late. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 10 Suggested Bet – ALSEPHINA WIN RACE 8 ALASKAN GOD is coming out of the Railway Stakes and Northerly Stakes at Group One Level. Last weekend he finished only 3L off Amelia’s Jewel, Ironclad, Steinem, Cascadian and Trix Of The Trade with 58.5kg. He drops from a Group One into a Listed race and he drops 3.5kg at the same time. Luxurious position for Danny Morton and connections to be in. Last season’s WATC Derby Winner who is All-In Favourite for the Perth Cup. Most suitable race of his preparation to date. PURE DEVOTION was well below par last start. Her run in the Eurythmic was excellent, her run in the Luckygray said she was well on target and then she never got going in the AJ Scahill Cup. Forgiving and following up. BLACK SHADOW is building and gets an ideal map. NEUFBOSC turned back the clock and chased hard last start. Numbers: 5 – 12 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – ALASKAN GOD WIN RACE 9 KISSONALLFORCHEEKS beat all bar Paulele in the Group One WFA Winterbottom Stakes. She was dropping back in trip form the 1600m of the Empire Rose and was a month between runs crossing back into WA. Even better suited at 1400m, drawn a better gate and a mare who rarely runs a bad race. Looks a great assignment for her and the eachway odds on offer are attractive. ELITE STREET was huge in the Winterbottom when leading up the four deep train without cover. Still fought on bravely late after doing so much work. On trial at 1400m but with cover he’s dangerous. VILANA has yet another minor cloud hovering over his head. His win in The Hunter profiles very well for this event. RED CAN MAN doesn’t know how to run a bad race and will park up over the speed. Numbers: 14 – 3 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – KISSONALLFORCHEEKS EACHWAY RACE 10 THE VELVET QUEEN has always promised to do exactly what she did first-up. From a similar draw she’ll get a similar run in transit and see no reason why she can’t go close to producing a similar result. Always a mare who will need an ounce of luck in running and a good ride. Good solid tempo in this race is a key to her winning chances. SPEED DREAM was huge last start in the same race. He did it tough from the 1000 and went down in the shadows of the post. Deserves to break through. BILLY AIN’T SILLY can lead or park and ride behind Lorentinio/Big Screen. Great run first-up in the Carbine Club. FEATHERWEIGHT had a minor set back going into last start. Pass mark for him. Numbers: 14 – 13 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – THE VELVET QUEEN EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 3,4 5,12 1,2,3,7,9,10,14,15,16 3,4,11,13,14 Market Market
