Scott Embry’s Monday Northam Preview Posted on May 30, 2025May 30, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 NEW HYMN SHEET won her most recent 950m trial at Lark Hill showing a nice turn of foot and with impressive debut winner Opportunistic coming out and winning on Wednesday at Pinjarra when $10 into $3.20 it only makes the trial look even better. Should be afforded every chance from the inside draw. NICCIANA makes his debut and it’s interesting to note that Michael Grantham has put CJP on him over Lavish Charm, given CJP is Bob’s #1 it’s worth following the lead. LAVISH CHARM has the run under his belt and was solid into second behind My Harv at Pinjarra. MOVING PICTURES ran really well on debut at 60-1. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – NEW HYMN SHEET WIN RACE 2 RIVER ANGEL ran second on debut behind speedy filly Real Deluxe and then went to a 3 year old 0MWLY at her only other outing when beaten less than 2L by Divine Impact and Catch Carter. Recent trial was sound, looks a 1000m filly at this stage of her career and has the speed to use the good draw to her advantage. ELVIRA STAR should have finished closer to Admire The Girl down the straight two back and will find his much easier than running in horses like Magnique and The Calabrese. COUPE DEBURJ won her trial with some authority and Danny Morton’s are going super first-up. OFFSHORE ran well like all of Colin Webster’s did at Pinny that day. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet – RIVER ANGEL WIN RACE 3 SPANGLEDSTAR has returned in good order this preparation. First-up she got home well into fourth behind Busters Girl and then second-up was the best of the closers behind Ma Ma Belle. There’s a bit of a query on that race as a form reference but this does look a thin maiden. CANTILEVER won a recent 950m trial at Lark Hill but it’s still a big ask to win first-up off 463 days, especially considering the huge SPs he went around in his first preparation. SOLDIER OF GOD ran some good races on wet tracks back in August last year in 3 year old Saturday grade. DAME DARGENT has had plenty of trials and looks like she’ll need ground. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – SPANGLEDSTAR WIN RACE 4 MAALIS SONG was supported at odds on debut when third behind Across Generations and then went to a 3 year old Saturday at his second start and ran an outstanding second to Pond Master (since run second to Elite Missile and races at Pinjarra on Saturday). Back into maiden grade and while he’s drawn wide you just never know with the rain around – it might be the best place to be? FLYING CHOUX has finished third at all three runs this time in and got home well last start considering how slow they went early. JEKYLL ISLAND was allowed to stride last start at Pinjarra and ran well. MORE HEROIC trialled alright behind Art Session two back. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – MAALIS SONG WIN RACE 5 OUR PALADIN AL is still very much a work in progress. He’s doing a lot wrong and yet is still running massive races in defeat. He missed away last start and ended up rearwards in an awkward position. Did a super job to close the gap late and hopefully with blinkers on and getting out to 1600m he’ll be able to break through. Will be a nice horse in time. GOLD ENIGMA has been solid in both of her outings so far. The debut performance was luckless and then last start the beaten margin was large but the race rated really well to the clock. QUEEN ARIA was a few lengths off Our Paladin Al last start. NEW YORK SKIE was a big improver last start out in trip. Numbers: 1 – 13 – 12 – 9 Suggested Bet – OUR PALADIN AL WIN RACE 6 AMERICAN ESCAPE was all the rage at her return to racing and then was held up badly in the home straight at crucial stages. Considering she was $4.20 into $2.60 on the WOP in the last 20 minutes of betting in a 60+ Graduation and she’s now back into a C3 and with Pike on there’s little doubt she’ll be popular again. MIGHTY HOSANNA was dominant in a C1 1200 at Belmont last start and prior to that finished second in a C3 at Ascot. Stable flying. REGAL SERVICE won like a horse who could go through the grade this prep. BOUSSAC has become quite frustrating. Has ability but the market continually over-supports him. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – AMERICAN ESCAPE WIN RACE 7 FIRST ENCOUNTER looked like he could be anything at one stage. He went on a winning spree putting together a hat-trick from a maiden to a 60+ Graduation in 2023 but then lost his way. He resumed in a 72+ 1400 off 455 days when finishing fourth behind Siberian Siren and subsequent winners Speed Dream and Western Power and had an excuse as well. Has trialled in between and now drops in grade into the WA Day Cup. Nice race for him. CORRECT CHOICE won well two back and then finished a narrow second to Speed Dream last time out. Looking for the mile now and gets Pike. MADAME MAGIC finished fourth in that same race and does no work three back the fence. CLASSIC ROGUE is well placed and weighted after the claim. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – FIRST ENCOUNTER WIN RACE 8 AMAZING CHEAT should be about ready fourth-up and the race she’s through has turned into a handy form reference for a C1. Mirrorschino has won again since and with Sheeza Sheila and Oisin running the quinella in a C1 1600 it’s actually held up far better than probably anticipated. SKY GOD didn’t seem to stay the trip last start so back in distance rock hard fit is a good thing. DARK LOOKS has more ability than most of them but does have a few convictions. PROCESSIO ran well second-up and will finish off hard late. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – AMAZING CHEAT WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1 5,7 6,8 1,4,5,7 Market Market
