Scott Embry’s Friday Roebourne Preview Posted on July 7, 2022July 7, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 POCKET PISTOL hasn’t been seen for 30 days as he has travelled the dusty roads of Western Australia: Pinjarra to Carnarvon to Belmont to Roebourne. Won a 56+ 1000 at Carnarvon by almost a length and then was narrowly beaten in a C3 1200 by Femme Puissante (went around $1.90 last week in a similar graded race at Roebourne). Should land a nice position and while 62kg is an ask he looks the class runner. MODERN TIMES looks just about ready to win another one. Had been fading badly his first few starts and is now starting to peak. MISS BRIGHTON doesn’t win out of turn but she’ll get a lovely run from the inside. SUNDAY AT SIX lead for a big portion of the race last week. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – POCKET PISTOL WIN RACE 2 SHACKLETON was good to punters last week in a 4 horse field when backed from $4.60 outsider to $2.60 favourite. Got the job done and see no reason why he can’t back it up 6 days later. This race has more depth adding in Sixpence Spent but it also means that Shackleton drops 1.5kg. Kate Southam rides Roebourne as well as anyone and he’s hard to beat. SIXPENCE SPENT looks the logical danger. Big winner first-up for Kevin Mahoney and should only improve with fitness. MYBAK is racing well as is everything from the yard of Michael Ball. FEMME PUISSANTE had a few excuses last week. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SHACKLETON WIN RACE 3 SECOND CHOICE looks ready to shake the maiden tag. Second in a maiden behind I’m Believable first-up on the dirt, then went to a C3 (why?) and was beaten a margin but by far better types than he’ll ever see in a race like this and last Saturday finished third behind Commands Respect and Towners Flyer in a maiden where they went 4L faster than average. Should be the right form race and this looks his best chance yet. BEST TESTIMONY will go round double figures. Roebourne is much different to Carnarvon. You can run a race at Roebourne and that suits a horse like him. TOP NOTCH SCOTCH is going well but lacks a killer blow. LEADER BIAS comes back into maiden grade which is a huge help. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – SECOND CHOICE WIN RACE 4 MADRID CENTRO has taken a while to come up this preparation but he has also now returned to a winnable ratings position. Last preparation didn’t fire a shot until winning sixth up when dropping from a c70 to a c66. This time in he has dropped from a c75 to a c68 and is now sixth up in the preparation. Backs up, drops in grade, drops in distance and comes out of a hot Marble Bar Cup (8L faster than average) and he was responsible for that speed. Could it be déjà vu? SMART FOX is stretched at 1400m but is racing well and can tag the speed the entire way. GINGER SENORITA has finally found her dirt legs. REVEREND JOHN may need a few more to find full fitness by the looks. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – MADRID CENTRO WIN RACE 5 ZEEWIJK is flying at the minute. He travels like a beast on the dirt and this race looks an ideal set up for him to camp over the top of the speed and march over them late in the race. Aaron Pateman is having a blistering season and #Kathy is going super as well. ZEEWIJK looks a different horse on the dirt (2 wins at Roebourne and 1 at Moora) and can extend his imposing record. FLYING ARABIAN, COPPING POINTS and SNIPPY MAREE will all go quick and that will ensure it’s a highly strung out event. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – ZEEWIJK WIN RACE 6 BLOCK OF LAND is a monster of a galloper and he just needs room to move. The way they seem to string out and then spread out in the home straight on the dirt is a big positive for him and from barrier 2 we just hope he doesn’t get squeezed back along the fence early because this looks a great race for him to win again. Looks like he’ll get out over further and further on the dirt and looks a nice race for him. BILLY JACK was slowly away at his first start in Roebourne and from there it was always going to be difficult. If he jumps and finds the fence it could be a different story. HEZAZEB had excuses last Saturday. Senior rider on a huge bonus. BOLD VICTOR is going along well. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – BLOCK OF LAND WIN RACE 7 CROSSARO looks just about ready. Michael Ball has had 18 runners at Roebourne this season for 4 winners at 22% and 32% POT and Crossaro looks primed to go third-up at 1800m. Don’t mind the wide gate for him because he doesn’t step that well. Should allow Peta Edwards to lob out wide and sustain a run which suits a staying type like him. Building quickly towards a dirt victory. RHINO BUSTER is just an old marvel. He was up for the grind last week in the Marble Bar Cup and never gave it away. Proven on the back-up and should land a lovely position in running. (K.Southam Jocks Challenge?). APPARITION was a big improver and was able to sprint through brilliantly last Saturday to give Cassey Martinan her first Cup. BAMBUN BOY will only improve with the experience. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – CROSSARO WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,4 2,3,4,5,9 1,2,3 1,4,5,7 Market Market
