Scott Embry’s Friday Esperance Preview Posted on February 1, 2023February 1, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 COUSIN NICCI finished third down the 1000m straight behind talented high speed galloper Ruler Rocket first-up and then went under over 1200m at Esperance when waiting for a run and then darting back towards the cutaway (which has been lengths inferior going recently). Tash Faithfull back aboard and looks a major player. MRS KANGAROO finished third behind Finest Clobber and City Angel in a 1000m scamper at Northam back in August. City Angel goes around in a maiden in the market at Belmont on Wednesday. SILVER SAX has put together two good runs since arriving in Esperance. MISS SPARKLE has ability but is very new and green. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – COUSIN NICCI WIN RACE 2 MR KOHANA is becoming frustrating. Second at Kal (beaten a half head), second at Esperance (beaten half a length), second at Esperance (held up at crucial stages), second at Esperance (back in the field while the main danger was getting a picnic out in front). He’s had excuses here and there but it’s time to stand up and win one. Each and every meeting the fields get weaker and Jarrad Noske travels down to try and lift him home. One more time we go. INFRINGEMENT MISS went quick at Geraldton and faded late. She’s stepping out to a mile but will lead for a fair way. MR HOLLYWOOD has been freshened after running third over this distance 7 weeks ago. MORSE hadn’t been seen for 680 days when resuming. Decent effort. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MR KOHANA WIN RACE 3 ALL ON BLACK has raced outside of his grade for a long while. His five runs in Esperance have been in 3x 68+, 1x 58+ and 1x C5. This is only a lowly C2 event and some of his efforts have been great. 2.5L off Westernize, Sauvegarde and Watto’s Fury. 3L off Secret Pearl, Market Stryke and Watch Me Ney Ney. Keep safe back into a far more suitable race. FRANKIE BLUE EYES found a great race last start and loomed the winner before Aboard got over the top of him late. Empirical evidence – Freddo > Josh. Senior rider goes on and he steps back out to a mile. Wins one soon. ABOARD ran well behind Kenny The King and Saffiano before breaking a long run of outs last start. Can she put two together? AMERICAN GRIN is going better than numerical form suggests. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – ALL ON BLACK WIN RACE 4 WESETERNIZE won a 68+ 1100 two starts ago with 55.5kg. He’s now in the same race with only 54.5kg and one of the region’s leading hoops in Tash Faithfull on (Lisa Staples definitely in the conversation for Queen of Esperance). Drawn ideally and has raced well off freshens previously. I AM SPARTACUS comes back to 1100m and rises up 5.5kg after racing in the Mt Barker Sprint. Goes lengths better at his home track than anywhere else but will have a fair few horses in front of him over the sprint trip. WATTO’S FURY isn’t as good at Esperance as he is at Kalgoorlie but he’s trying hard. BIN SHALAA gets weight off her back coming into this grade. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – WESTERNIZE WIN RACE 5 OH SOPHIA resumed in a C2 1100 when finishing 1.5L off My Boy Chris. Meets him 1.5kg better, gains the services of Tash Faithfull and if jumping cleanly can settle much closer in the run. Was a good run against the pattern in a slowly run race. HABIB is going as well as any horse in this grade in the region. Second to Market Stryke (beating home subsequent winner Electric Rose) three starts ago, fourth in a winner producing race two starts ago (Winsalot, Gambler’s Gold) and then finished third behind Kenny The King and Saffiano at a mile. Drops back to 1200m and is drawn wide. Not sure the race is that suitable for him but he’s flying. NITRO FRED has a senior on and can improve. MY BOY CHRIS improved lengths at his second start for Helen Harding. Numbers: 13 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – OH SOPHIA WIN RACE 6 PATROCITY trialled like a beast and can be forgiven for blowing out late when resuming off 555 days. Drawn to get a gun run over the speed and should come on in leaps and bounds fitness wise. Better suited at 1400m than 1200m. In Burger/Staples we trust: 27% strike rate & 12% POT last 750 days as a combination. FAIR JUSTICE continues to find one or two better than her on the day. SALVARA was too good to ignore two starts back in a 68+ when third. ANOTHER DEMON gave a good sight in front last start. Not far away from pinching another. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 12 – 5 Suggested Bet – PATROCITY WIN RACE 7 MARKET STRYKE has been a regular in this preview over his entire career. He’s caught in between grades and he has to carry weight more often than not but think that the fact Josh Brown has elected to stick with the senior rider and carry the 61.5kg is a show of intent. He looked gone on straightening last start before coming again on the line. Hard to fault anything he’s done over his career. Finished in the money at 13 of 16. WARZACHANTZ is peaking and is drawn to get the run he needs close handy to the speed. GALAHS DO ROAR can reel off a slick L600 and there should be a 3 deep train in this. DAWN AMNESTY is teasing with her late splits. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 13 Suggested Bet – MARKET STRYKE WIN RACE 8 BABY BLUES has won back to back races since arriving in Esperance and is back to somewhere near her best. She was in the winning wilderness from May 2020 until finally breaking through again in January 2023. Now that she’s back in winning form she should be able to hold it. Runs out a mile and maps to get the run she needs midfield with cover. WATCH ME NEY NEY is the stablemate and while not an easy horse to catch is better suited drawing out than in. KALLAROO and MEXI COLA are both running similar quality races at the minute. Not much between them and both closing in on another win. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – BABY BLUES WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,6,8,13 4,5,7,12 1,4 3,4,6,7,9,12,14 Market Market
