Deane’s Moonee Valley Best Bets Posted on October 21, 2016October 24, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 7 GUN CASE Reliable sprinter GUN CASE can continue on his winning way when he runs in the City Jeep Handicap (955m). The six year old has won four of his seven starts since joining the Darren Weir stable including a dominant win over 955 metres at Moonee Valley on September 30. He handles all conditions but any rain is a bonus and he looks well graded again; sure to run well. RACE 5 NO. 1 LADY LE FAY LADY LE FAY is ready to peak following two runs back from a spell and looks one of the better bets of the day when she runs in the Tesio Stakes (1600m). The daughter of Thorn Park ran a brave second behind DIXIE BLOSSOMS in the Angst Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 8. That is the best mares formline going around as DIXIE BLOSSOMS had previously finished 2nd behind TYCOON TARA, finishing ahead of subsequent Tristarc Stakes winner FIRST SEAL. This is a much easier race so LADY LE FAY represents the class runner of this field and should prove too good. RACE 9 NO. 8 WINX One of the great races on the calendar is the Cox Plate (2040m) and last year’s winner WINX is ideally positioned to make it back-to-back wins in the race known as the best two minutes in sport. The Chris Waller trained mare has won her past 12 starts including her three runs this spring leading into the Plate. Whilst it was only a field of three, the daughter of Street Cry scored a comprehensive win in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) in what looked an ideal lead up race. She has worked very well at Moonee Valley in the lead-up and just looks to have an edge on her rivals. Whilst it has been billed as a match race between WINX and HARTNELL, I’m expecting LUCIA VALENTINA to run the race of her life and might be the value for the quinella with WINX.
