Cannington Saturday 4th February 2017 Race 1 – No. 5 Never In Kansas Handy type who was racing in consistent form prior to a much tougher Perth Cup heat last week where she finished a well beaten 6th behind Astrozone in a fair 30.54. She posted a new PB of 30.24 here a run prior from wider than this and she will find tonight’s line up more to her liking. Despite the awkward draw, she should bounce back into the swing of things and prove hard to hold out at the business end. Race 2 – No. 1 Gold Reserve Exceptionally bred chaser who looks primed to run a huge race at his 4th run back from a spell. Not disgraced last week when finishing 3rd in a Perth Cup heat behind the electric Single Sticka from the opposite side of the draw. He has an enviable record in red, winning 4 of 5 with 3 of those over this very trip. He has the early speed to use the draw to his advantage and he should take plenty of catching with that swift jump from the boxes. 2017 Perth Cup Race 7 – No. 3 Single Sticka – SuperPick Profit Plus 50% (Win) Athletic type with brilliant point to point speed, especially over the latter half of the journey. He went within a whisker of pinching early favourite Astrozone’s track record last week, posting a scintillating BON 29.59 in the green and with a safe passage into the first turn from the improved draw, he is more than capable of going much quicker. There is plenty of pace surrounding him so the likelihood of trouble on the first turn rates highly. If that is the case, he is a good chance of avoiding it by dropping to the rail, sneaking through on the first turn then find a handy position heading down the back, looming large on the home bend and powering away from his rivals with big bounds to notch up the first Group 1 victory of his career and take his earning to over $200k. His main dangers are directly either side in Astrozone who’s won 12 of 13 and Kid Kansas who looks to be peaking at the right time with Times Square capable of causing an upset in her favourite rug.
