Matt Young’s Tuesday Gloucester Park Preview Posted on August 5, 2025August 5, 2025 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 Wide open race to kick things off, AMERICAN MONARCH (5) closed off nicely on Saturday at Northam and should be better for that run, can slot across into a nice position and be very dangerous late. MAJOR CLASS (7) was also better on Saturday, and the big boy is starting to get wound up, he can do some work and that holds him in good stead to finish in the money. STRAUNYS SISTER (1) was disappointing last run but with that run under her belt and a better draw she can work in to the money. FIORD (4) has been luckless since returning but that is a large part of his career with his racing style, capable if the runs come at the right time. ALTAR (8) is in the same boat as his stablemate. SOMETHING CERTAIN (10) was a nice run last time out but takes on horses who have won races and he is still learning the caper, one to follow going forward but may be an eye catcher in this. VINTAGE BLU (11) improving, novelty chance. Tips: 5 7 4 10 Suggested Bet: AMERICAN MONARCH (5) each way. Race 2 BEATITLIKEBECA (7) is a smart type and has a run under the belt to bring his fitness on, looks the testing material in this and has form around Bettor Fortune who impressed so much yesterday, that has swayed me in his corner. ICE COLD SAPPORO (9) was impressive in his last win and has come back well, he is a tough staying type so the draw is no concern, and he can continue with his good form here. BASINGHALL (11) has been racing in consistent form and shouldn’t be overlooked as he will be assessing things in the run. CAPTAIN PAPRIKA (4) can use the early speed and get into a good spot and play into novelty contention with FILLMYPOCKET (5) and LAZARUS STAR (6). THE FIRST CUT (12) has a draw where she can’t make the play and that could hurt her chances overall. Tips: 7 9 11 6 Suggested Bet: BEATITLIKEBECA (7) to win. Race 3 Good race this one, STRONG THE STRIKER (3) caught my eye last run and was gutsy the start prior as well, ran into bother which was a racing incident and still savaged the line in his most recent outing and think he will get a good run and be right in this. WHEELSOFORTUNE (1) won well last time out but is up in grade, has options from the draw and can be in the money. BUTTER ME UP (2) led and was beaten but not disgraced last time out, looks likely to lead again. CEASE TO REACT (6) had the difficult task of coming from back in the field and that last race and could head forward and stick on well. CHUGACH (8) has the visitors draw but was brave in defeat last time out, map looks a little tricky for him in this. BETTOR BEHAVE (10) has a nice draw and if the gaps open, he has the high speed to fill a hole. Tips: 3 2 6 8 Suggested Bet: STRONG THE STRIKER (3) each way. Race 4 EL MYSTRO (1) looks to be the real deal, and he’s got the ace draw to boot, has good early speed and should lead and be very hard to run down, only negatives would be that he is coming into this race fresh and moving to the 2130m for the first time in a race. IDEAL BEACH (2) looks a very smart type and the main danger, drawn to be close and could be even better after a break. FEAR THE STORM (9) is talented but has a horror draw to contend with, has a heap of high speed as does AMERICAN MACHINE (3) who won in sensational style at Pinjarra trials recently but has got a few quirks. BETTOR MOVE MATTY (7) was outstanding in his win at Bunbury, may have to do the work again. TOBY GEORGE (4) has gone off the boil at the wrong time, needs to lift. OF CLAUS IM GOOD (8) looks to have promise but is a work in progress. Tips: 1 2 7 3 Suggested Bet: EL MYSTRO (1) to win. Race 5 MADDY LOU (2) is on the back up from a winning performance at Narrogin when leading throughout, should take benefit from that run and looks the leader again here and no reason she can’t make it two in a row. THE WAND WAVER (7) caught the eye with a strong turn of foot in a recent trial, small field suits and will be running on. DAT LOVELY (1) not quite at her best but drawn to be prominent. BEACH CAPTAIN (5) better suited in this grade and can get back into the money. LUKE ATTACK (8) may have to do the work from the wide draw but is showing good toughness in this grade. Tips: 2 1 7 5 Suggested Bet: MADDY LOU (2) to win. Race 6 SONIC SEELSTER (4) looks set to use that early dash off the arm and find himself in front, back to a mile this looks suitable and will be hard to run down in this. ZUEDE (11) will be trying to get into a decent spot early before closing off strongly, not a deep race and he should be powering home. ISAIDBOO (5) will be an improver, this grade suits him. VYBRANT (10) can run into the money but needs luck from the draw. KARAOKE STAR (6) not the worst but awkward draw and he seems to miss the lightning laps. Tips: 4 5 11 10 Suggested Bet: SONIC SEELSTER (4) to win. Race 7 I LIKE WHAT I SEE (2) is on WA debut for the powerful Jocelyn Young stable and likely to be kept very safe in the market, map wise there is some concern over whether she can find the top but looks to be a major player in this off form. JOLTED CHARM (1) is going ok, not poorly but definitely a few cogs off her best, has the draw to be prominent. STAR LILLY (3) was disappointing on return and could revert to her normal style of sit kick and hope last start was an anomaly. WATCH ME WAVE (6) has been sound since returning and can get home strongly, small field suits. FOLLOW MY STRIDE (4) should be considered for the novelties, going better than her form suggests and the race gets harder for SIMPLYTHEBEST (8) from the draw but the two runs with Corey Peterson have both been solid so keep her safe. Tips: 2 1 6 4 Suggested Bet: I LIKE WHAT I SEE (2) to win. Race 8 UNDER THE ALTA (5) has yet to show his best since coming back but he strikes a winnable race and think he can do the work and be hard to hold out in this. COVERNOTE (3) creates interest from the draw and although has mixed form, this looks suitable. LADY VIOLETTA (1) held them off last run, but the times were modest. ROCKIN LE MONDE (4) will be better than his first up run, improver. SIDSTREPO (7) will be running on powerfully and no reason why he couldn’t win again, especially considering there is conjecture over the early leader and tempo, could play into his hands well. PUREST COPPER (2) capable, did things wrong first up but still hit the line soundly and MAJOR MANHATTAN (6) might need the run on return from the draw. Tips: 5 7 3 1 Suggested Bet: UNDER THE ALTA (5) each way. Market Market
