Glenn Ingram’s Wednesday Sandown Preview Posted on January 27, 2026January 27, 2026 | Posted by Glenn Ingram RACE 1 Small field for stayers at BM70 level, tactics will be at a premium with no speed engaged. EAGLE ANGEL likely leader with an important 3kg claim, pressured in front at Flemington and dropped out last start, a softer tempo puts him in contention. AMIZETTA received a brilliant ride to score here last start and was game vs pattern prior, she’s going well. AMERICAN WOLF and POLITELY DUN come through the same race at Flemington and now drop down in grade, neither has much tactical speed which is a concern. Selections: 3,5,1,2 Suggested Bet: Exotics RACE 2 THE BENCHMARK was impressive in defeat on debut with a tough performance when wide/no cover in a heat of the Future Stars Series. This is no harder, he’s the one to beat. SHUDAR was just fair in the same race in the inferior ground, capable of improvement. LOUD CHARLIE debuted in a good maiden at Terang and no match for an impressive sub winner, he was not in the best ground there either, keeping safe. DAISY DUCK is an interesting runner, returns from injury and looked good winning a slow jumpout at Werribee, in a race lacking speed she deserves respect. Selections: 5,4,3,8 Suggested Bet: THE BENCHMARK win RACE 3 This race sets up beautifully for ENCHANTED JENNI if she can lug the big weight, the stable has opted against claiming for the mare, she’s drawn to get the suck run up behind an expected fast speed. INDIAN JEWEL also maps to advantage, she couldn’t get near the speed last time when the intention was there, should land one out, one back in this event. TWO SIGMA is hard & fit for recent racing, maps well, needs a win. The lamplighter is CAT NOIR she found winning form at Colac, may give a sight but this is much harder. Good race for the top two in the market. Selections: 1,4,6,3 Suggested Bet: Quinella 1 & 4 RACE 4 Not much depth to this contest, either of the two debutantes can win. TRAPPER JOHN is improving at the jumpouts and deserves respect for the McDonald/Melham combination. BEL MEZYAAN was given a race-day experience at this course in preparation when sporting blinkers, ridden out and looked good doing it. HEADBANGER is a jumpout star and has done so again between runs, a big drifter in betting at Pakenham and improved into her run at Geelong. LIFE AFTER LOVE only needs to repeat her fresh effort to be competitive again. Selections: 3,1,9,10 Suggested Bet: Exotics RACE 5 MR MAGNUS was poor with the race shape against at Caulfield, he backs up quickly into a chute race which is where he saves his best efforts for, if close enough in the run he’s in the mix with a change up in his gear. YES WE ARE was well-placed at Sale last start and impressive in winning, this is another good opportunity, the inside barrier out of the chute is a negative. TIZ WORTHY was plain at Flemington in a hot race, drops back to a 1000m which is a positive and won a similar race here last year. ANGEL LADDER has jumped out well to resume, watch betting. Selections: 2,3,7,8 Suggested Bet: MR MAGNUS 1 x 4 RACE 6 Tricky race, a number of angles. A lack of intent saw BOLD STRIKE get too far back and charge home behind Aliano. Rising to 1400m and closer to the speed he’s a winning chance, GODTFRED KIRK returned from tie-back surgery with a good performance first-up at Geelong, naturally improves second-up. HOMEWARD is a mare in form for the new stable, measured up to this class last start, she’s part of the early speed battle with BETWITCHERY who is ready to win and CELESTIAL ZARA stepping up from a soft maiden win where she controlled tempo, harder here. SKYWATCHER ran out of her skin surprising the market at Pakenham, need to see it again. Selections: 2,3,4,1 Suggested Bet: Exotics RACE 7 Good race! YAIKANA was well-educated for his debut after a number of trials, he showed excellent gate speed and dropped his head before quickening up to win in fast time. It all looked relatively easy, the challenge is to replicate on the bigger Hillside track, there doesn’t appear too much pressure around him. JAMESJOHNO is a genuine threat, he was heavily-backed fresh and lost his spot in the run, can improve sharply second-up with a jumpout between runs and the visors back on. ROCK THEM JOOLS will be sweating off them, he has a good finish and if wound up and ready, Lane will have him charging at the speed. CRIPPS, PULA and KING TUT all have minor claims. Selections: 5,1,3,4 Suggested Bet: YUKAINA win RACE 8 Brutal last leg of the quaddie, going wide. With a lack of notable speed MR BANNOCK can be more prominent than he was at Geelong when he put in a big run fresh charging at the winner from midfield. He had been in and out multiple times so fitness should be no issue. DESERT ANTHEM has strong claims second-up after an excellent return at Sandown, flopped out and given time to balance up early, expecting more intent. EN FLIQUE was impressive winning at home, she does like to give them a start as many of her opposition here do. Can make a small case for a number of others, market moves will be interesting. Selections: 7,5,9,1 Suggested Bet: Exotics NEXT BEST: R2 #5 THE BENCHMARK Market Market
