Glenn Ingram’s Wednesday Sandown Preview Posted on July 27, 2026July 27, 2026 | Posted by Glenn Ingram Race 1 A stack of speed engaged most of it coming from out wide early. Ciaron Maher has a strong hand. The progressive STAR TRIP was equal parts plain and unlucky at Bendigo first-up, jumped fave upon resumption settled at the rear and didn’t come on while also blocked for a run. Expecting more this time out. SATIN DIVA is a concern at 1200m, however, the race sets up well for her from the draw and she was never likely in an on-pace dominated race out of the chute, worth forgiving, a chance if she runs out the trip. Big watch ex Kiwi UTOPIC WARRIOR, jumpouts no guide. MISS LOLA back in class, some hope. Selections: 5,6,7,10 Suggested Bet: Exotics Race 2 WALTER SPUR is ready to win and arguably best suited with the forecast rain expected at the time of writing. He hit the line hard behind key hopes in this race DREAMZEL and WEAPON CLEAR (no rider nominated) the former is genuine 1000m horse and will take catching again, the latter makes her job harder if she takes her place and takes her on in the speed battle. FOXENBERG has jumped out well to resume which is not uncommon for him, draws well. TOWER BRIDGE has ability, resuming, watch betting. Selections: 8,1,6,4 Suggested Bet: WALTER SPUR win Race 2 WALTER SPUR is ready to win and arguably best suited with the forecast rain expected at the time of writing. FOXENBERG has jumped out well to resume which is not uncommon for him, draws well. TOWER BRIDGE has ability, resuming, watch betting. Selections: 8,1,6,4 Suggested Bet: WALTER SPUR win Race 3 Open race, hard to split a number of runners. The early speed is strong, MARGIE’S BOY can improve on her recent form down in grade to a level she can be competitive and the rain forecast helps, her best chance to win a race this prep. The two at the top of the book, ITSAKUSHIMA and the race fit STAY SILENT both claim and both have to absorb pressure. The lightly raced PLATENCIA BAY creates interest for the new stable, three jumouts suggest some intent to forward fresh. Selections: 3,2,1,8 Suggested Bet: MARGIE’S BOY 1 x 4 Race 4 Speed set by ELEANOR DUMONT and BOTH SIDES NOW the pace won’t be overly strong. Liked the win of MISS CASTELVECCHIO last start at Geelong when the money was on, up in grade but appears to have more upside and draws in behind the speed. BLUE WILLOW was honest in the chase in a similar race here last time out, wet weather forecast will only improve her chances. TEMPRANILLO ready to show more third-up. Selections: 5,7,2,3 Suggested Bet: MISS CASTELVECCHIO win Race 5 Perfect race for EMPRESS OF THE SUN to lead and dictate against a moderate bunch of stayers. Enjoyed a soft lead last start and was then taken on at the turn, she gave a decent kick in the worst part of the track and that looks the right form race to be winning here. WUDDZZ ran well at Flemington, he needs a strong speed which is unlikely and also up in the weights despite the claim, both work against him. Stablemates JAYKAYANN and CUSTOMER service both ran well in that key form race. The former is battling for her best form. Selections: 8,1,9,5 Suggested Bet: EMPRESS OF THE SUN win Race 6 CENSORI didn’t beat much at Sandown last start but have to like the way she knuckled down with the 59kg and raced away at the mile last start, draws a perfect gate to repeat the win up in grade. Ciaron Maher’s two-pronged attack both have solid winning chances. MISSAPPREHEND comes through the strongest form lines and expect the market to come for her, finds a good race but some query on her will to win. RUSSIAN DUCHESS deserves respect up in distance and SHAMANSARA did a good job to win on debut, no shock to see her measure up. Selections: 1,3,7,4 Suggested Bet: CENSORI win Race 7 Hard to go past the debut win of HERE’S MATILDA out of the powerful Maher stable running up to her impressive Cranbourne jumpout. She looks to land a trailing position and in the right spot to make the leap in grade. The big field may play into the hands of CINTURATO drawn out finding his best chance since winning over the Warrnambool carnival, found two strong races since and now drops back to BM64 level with his preferred wet conditions. MAGNETIC CHESS is flying looking to complete a hat-trick, the obvious speed runner, if left along a genuine hope. BEECHWORTH returned an improved horse under Chris Waller this prep winning fresh and then game in a hot race at Caulfield. Selections: 1,3,14,13 Suggested Bet: HERE’S MATILDA win Race 8 They may go quick if last start winner RED ON RED is ridden similar and takes it up with MY ROCA FELLA and SHINY NEW DEEL. Fresh winner TISHMAN and MIDNIGHT GLOW look to get the perfect runs in behind that speed. The former generally struggles second-up but will appreciate the wet conditions expected. MIDNIGHT GLOW can improve sharply and is a winning hope off the map. TAKA SPEED has lost his way, a win won’t shock on his best form. Selections: 9,7,3,1 Suggested Bet: Exotics MULTI: R2 #8 Place, R6#1 Place, R7#14 Win Market Market
