Glenn Ingram’s Wednesday Caulfield Preview Posted on February 16, 2026February 16, 2026 | Posted by Glenn Ingram RACE 1 SUNBURNT COUNTRY returned a gelding and ran above expectations in a sit/sprint at Seymour first-up when narrowly beaten, big gap to 3rd. From a good draw he has genuine winning claims with fitness improvement. PEEAITCHDEE is long time maiden, his recent trial win at Cranbourne suggests he’s forward to return and can race handy to the speed. CANNAE made a good debut from the back at Sandown in an on-pace dominated race, tricky draw. WASHINGTON LILAC was under a pressure a long way out first-up and rallied, the rise in trip suits. Selections: 7,1,4,9 Suggested Bet: SUNBURNT COUNTRY win RACE 2 The speed map is murky, no defined leader. EN FLIQUE and LIM’S SMYTHE come through the same race at Sandown where leader and winner got all favours, they both tried hard and held their positions to the line. Both drawn low, expect they kick up early to be prominent. RAPID CHEVAL is first-up for the Laming stable, Ben Melham has been jumping the horse out and given a quiet time in three jumpouts, should be near the mark fresh, watch betting. DESERT ANTHEM is hard to fault, run to his best in two efforts to start the prep, may settle closer. Selections: 9,2,8,6 Suggested Bet: Exotics RACE 3 SHINJINA was well-backed at Pakenham fresh at 1000m and took a sit and chimed in strongly but couldn’t match the winner, Emily Pozman sticks with her, I suspect they try and lead this time. TORSHEEN will join her in the speed battle, she’s been placed well to date, this is harder. FUNDAMENTAL NATURE was ridden quiet at the jumpouts and produced a good turn of foot to win on debut at Pakenham. Staying at 1200 around a bend this time, prefer to see. OCEAN BAY makes her Australian debut, may find the 1200 too sharp off one jumpout. Selections: 3,1,2,8 Suggested Bet: SHINJINA win RACE 4 VEYEPEE was fit and ready for his debut at Geelong and enjoyed a pattern bias, he wasn’t all that comfortable leading but gave a strong kick when challenged and should only improve further out in trip. With another positive ride he can outside leader SAVAMOON who continues to race well deep into his prep. LATE HARVEST has a good map getting the drop on the lead pair as he did when chasing hard at Cranbourne to score last start, he goes up in weight. PULA was excellent first-up, may end up rearwards and needing luck. Selections: 8,3,6,10 Suggested Bet: Exotics RACE 5 ONAVUITTON is well-placed dropping back from a solid effort in stakes company to a Class 1 and drawn to be forward half, hard to beat. ZAKOUMA resumed off 53 weeks to win first-up for the Begg stable last campaign, jumpouts have been soft, need a market push first-up at the mile. WONDERING SPIRIT was impressive in defeat at Cranbourne first-up for Tim Eurell, he sprinted quickly off an even speed and looks to have come back an improved horse. MONGOLIAN MISSION deserves respect, narrowly beaten in a sit/sprint at Sale, more tempo helps his chances. Selections: 1,2,5,4 Suggested Bet: ONAVUITTON win RACE 6 The pace should be strong early with STELLAR MOFEED, HONOR GALORE and WRITTEN BLIGH all punching up, the benefactor of that looks to be XARPO, a capable mare who can sprint well fresh at 1200m if the gaps open up in the straight, her two jumpouts have been quiet, did win a similar race first-up last prep. QUISEEN has a big finish and should be camped off them midfield, wide and ready to strike, the visors go on, her best efforts come when getting to the outside of horses, this race should play into her hands. CONSCIENCE will need luck in running if the blinkers don’t have her in a more forward spot early. Selections: 4,3,7,5 Suggested Bet: XARPO win RACE 7 Another race where the tempo is strong, INSAIN HARRY blinkers on crosses from a wide draw, BOLD RESPONSE will kick up and be among the early speed. HERE THE CROWD was a good effort first-up and has drawn a perfect gate, she’s won 2/3 second-up and finds a good race to be winning again aided by the claim. The classy looking TRAPDOOR was very impressive on debut winning at Geelong followed up with a game defeat at metro level. His two trials in Sydney have been no guide, Ben Melham replaces Blake Shinn, he may be at the mercy of the track pattern from his draw. REDDERS had strong support fresh for the new stable, can go on with it here if ridden aggressive early. Selections: 7,10,6,4 Suggested Bet: HERE THE CROWD 1 x 3 RACE 8 Good race between EVERAIN and HUMZA BEY, both should improve further second-up today, the former was not wound up but got the speed on to suit first-up at Caulfield over 1400m, he profiles as a horse with more upside and the tempo is expected to be solid. HUMZA BEY was heavily-backed at his Australian debut and sat off them in a small field and outsprinted to the line, goes up in grade which is interesting, may need it wet at this level. RESET THE JAZZ looked in good order at the trials in between runs, should set the speed with LARIO up front. Selections: 4,8,1,9 Suggested Bet: Exotics Market Market
