Geraldton Gold Cup Day Posted on April 8, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Tips RACE 6 NO. 3 FORTUNATE LASSIE FORTUNATE LASSIE produced an enormous performance last week at Pinjarra. She settled close to the rear, circle the field and powered clear for big win. If she repeat that type of performance she goes very close again. RACE 8 – $75,000 PURCHER INTERNATIONAL BATAVIA SPRINT 1300m No. 4 FIDDLERS ELBOW – Terrific race and it will be each-way odds the field. FIDDLERS ELBOW was an eye-catcher in the feature sprint at Albany where he was doing his best work late. He’s drawn to get a soft run and should be finishing powerfully when it matters. (3) KING OF THE PALACE is in career best form and from a good draw he will get a soft run and let down strongly when it matters. (8) HEAVY SET is another who should get a lovely run from a good draw. (2) MIKI TWO TOES needs luck from an awkward draw but is racing well enough to be a major player again. RACE 9 – $100,000 TABTOUCH GERALDTON GOLD CUP 2100m 4 DESERT GLOW – Similar to the Batavia Sprint is a wide open race with most connections giving themselves a chance at taking home the $64k winners cheque. I’ve settled on DESERT GLOW who should be ready to roll at his third run back from a spell. The tempo of this race should be very solid which will his get back run on style. (1) ALREADY FAMOUS has to lump the 58kg however he has a touch of class and should get a lovely run about midfield. (14) TOM ALMIGHTY is just about ready to win a race after racing well in the Esperance, Mt Barker and Albany Cups. (6) FLEETING GLANCE will lead and give them something to catch. RACE 10 NO. DRIVE ON ICE DRIVE ON ICE looks very well placed in this final race of the day. His form was very good until he put in a shocker at his most recent start. He’s been freshened up since that effort and after the claim for Bonnie Palise he looks very well in with 56kg. He can storm over the top of these.
