RACE 4 NO. 8 PORTMAN

PORTMAN will be fitter for one run back from a spell and looks the standout bet of the day when he contests the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1400m). The four year old worked to the line strongly when finishing third behind LEODORO over 1200 metres at Caulfield on July 1. He will appreciate a step up in distance and looks drawn for a good run from barrier five. Champion rider Craig Williams is locked in battle for the Melbourne Jockeys Championship and PORTMAN should take him one step closer to retaining his title.

RACE 6 NO. 8 DIVINE MR ARTIE

DIVINE MR ARTIE is a talented sprinter that looks a great winning chance when he contests the KA Morrison Handicap (1200m). The son of Artie Schiller resumed from a spell with an even effort to finish 5th behind LEODORO over 1200 metres at Caulfield on July 1. He’s a second up winner in the past and has also scored over 1200 metres down the Flemington straight course. Craig Williams has enjoyed success on DIVINE MR ARTIE in the past and he takes the ride here. This is a competitive race but DIVINE MR ARTIE looks well suited to run a bold race.

RACE 7 NO. 4 KILIMANJARO

The most interesting runner at the Flemington meeting is KILIMANJARO, who looks a strong winning chance when he runs in the George Watson Handicap (2000m). The Rob Hickmott trained gelding made his Australian debut at Flemington on June 10 and powered home to finish third behind BULLISH STOCK over 1800 metres. His international form would suggest that he is a spring contender and this is the next stepping stone towards his spring campaign. He’s a high class galloper in the making that can record his first Australian win here.
