Deane’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 2, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 4 NO. 1 OREGON’S DAY OREGON’S DAY is a classy mare resuming from a spell and looks the standout bet of the day when she tackles the Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m). The Mick Price trained mare has trialled well in recent weeks and looks primed for her return to the track. She will be very strong at the end of this distance whilst many of her rivals will be battling to run a strong 1400 metres. In-form rider Mark Zahra takes the mount and OREGON’S DAY should prove too good for this field. SuperPick - RACE 4 NO. 1 OREGON’S DAY - Win Boost RACE 5 NO. 13 BIG SUR The best value at the Flemington meeting could be BIG SUR, who looks terrific each way value when he runs in the Benchmark 70 Handicap (2000m). The four year old is enjoying a good campaign having won stylishly over 1600 metres at Ballarat on January 24 before a sound 4th in a leader dominated race behind REAL FINNISS over 1600 metres at Ballarat on February 13. He is now looking for this distance and, importantly, senior rider Luke Nolen regains the ride. It’s a very even race with a host of chances, however BIG SUR looks well placed for a big showing. RACE 9 NO. 12 OVER AND ABOVE OVER AND ABOVE is a lightly raced member of the Team Hawkes stable that is progressing nicely and looks a solid each way chance in the Saintly Handicap (1400m). The son of All Too Hard ran 2nd on debut behind subsequent Group 2 winner SUMMER SHAM at Ballarat on January 24. He then recorded his first win over 1200 metres at Sandown on February 7 before a sound 2nd over 1440 metres at Caulfield on February 21. He drops back to his own age group here and also drops 5kg on his last run. He is drawn for a good run and should prove competitive again. Bet Now
