Dellar Upbeat About Kronfeld In Tatts Cup Posted on August 18, 2017 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Trainer Merv Dellar is upbeat and positive about the prospects of Kronfeld in the Raglan Drilling Tatts Cup (2140m) at Kalgoorlie on Sunday. Buoyed by the seven-year-olds performance at Kalgoorlie two weeks ago, Dellar believes Kronfeld is poised to break a year-long losing sequence. Dellar’s confidence levels were boosted after the son of Murtajill fought back to finish a half-head second to Anglo Irish over 2120m on August 6. Dellar is optimistic that with a combination of weight, barrier and rider, Kronfeld can turn the tables and go one better in the Tatts Cup. Kronfeld, who gets a 2kg weight relief, has drawn barrier four. In a field of nine starters he will be ridden by top jockey, Dan Staeck. “He really gets his chance on Sunday and I’m confident going into it,” Dellar said on Tabradio’s The Sports Daily. “He has been around the mark without winning, but definitely gets his chance. “He is down to 56 (kg), has a good gate and a good pilot on top.” Kronfeld has been placed on three occasions from five starts since commencing his winter campaign in June. He is showing the type of form that saw him run third to Cougar Express in last year’s Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m). Dellar says a change of training routine could give Kronfeld the edge on Sunday. “He seems to be in a happy space,” Dellar said. “I am training him differently this year and more along the lines of a sprinting campaign. “He is such a clean winded horse we don’t have to do a lot with him. “We have lighten off to get some sprint into him. “He will go into Sunday’s race pretty fresh.” Someday One Day, a long-neck third to Anglo Irish and Kronfeld last-start, is one of four starters for Peter Fernie. Small And Spicy, Black Moment and Tahgeo Bay give the leading Kalgoorlie trainer strong representation. Someday One Day is out to shed a frustrating run of three consecutive minor placings. Meanwhile Dellar says he is uncertain if stable flag bearer Corvara can measure up to the class of a Hannans Handicap (1400m). The mare has been a star since teaming up with Dellar this season, extending her unbeaten sequence to six last week. Dellar questions if the daughter of Ready’s Image can step up in class and take out Kalgoorlie’s premier sprint next month. “I don’t know if she is to the standard to be honest,” Dellar said. “She has done a great job and I can’t knock her for that. “Her main aim is the Kambalda Cup in about three weeks’ time. “That run the other day did take a fair bit out of her.”
