Deane’s Caulfield Preview Posted on January 6, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 NO.1 KENEDNA Promising filly KENEDNA looks ready to progress to city grade when she runs in the Margot McCluskey Handicap (1400m). The three year old should be at peak fitness following two runs back from a spell which includes coming off a strong last start win over 1200 metres at Echuca on December 19. The extra distance of this race looks favourable and she drops back to racing against her own age group this time. The Darren Weir/ Ben Allen combination have been dominant and recent weeks and KENEDNA can provide them with another win. SuperPick - No. 1 Kenedna - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 7 NO.5 PLEIN CIEL Imported galloper PLEIN CIEL is racing through the grades and can continue on his winning way when he runs in the Summer Championship Heat 7 (1800m). The son of Mamool was dynamic winning over 1400 metres at Sandown two starts back and produced another solid performance winning over 1600 metres at Caulfield on December 26. This seems the natural progression for the four year old, who is unbeaten in three Australian starts and, with the benefit of Ben Allen’s 2kg claim, is poised to win again. He faces the strongest opposition that he has met with talented stayer COOL CHAP and the emerging REWARD FOR EFFORT providing genuine competition, however PLEIN CIEL should prove equal to the task. RACE 8 NO.4 CHANCE TO DANCE The Summer Championship Heat 8 (1600m) looks a high pressure race with many horses that prefer to race near the lead which sets up nicely for CHANCE TO DANCE to produce a big first-up performance. The Rob Hickmott trained gelding has been impressive in his two previous fresh runs, winning over 1600 metres at Moonee Valley in September 2015 and last campaign produced a fast finishing 4th over 1400 metres in May 2016. He is a high quality galloper at his best that has had his career punctuated by injury setbacks, however he only needs to be close to his best form and he’s a major contender in this race. Bet Now!
